"Hello, Ayami. Okaa-san made these for you." A tiny soft smile formed on his lips while handing the box of homemade cookies that his mother prepared. It was his first time to talk to a girl and he was nervous. The little girl smiled brightly at him and accepted the gift.
"Thank you, Reiki. I will enjoy this while I'm back in the hospital." Her bright smile turned into a sad one. He clenched his fists tightly while staring at him. If he could just use his powers to heal her, but he couldn't.
"You will go back there now?" He asked and she nodded. It would also be his last day to see her because he heard earlier from the teachers that she had already finished her activities in preschool.
"You can still visit me. I'll ask Mama to give you the address." She called her mother after that. He received a small paper that contained the hospital address and he didn't let it go until he arrived home.
"Okaa-san.." He peeked from his spot once again since his mother was preparing dinner. He left Little Riku playing with the new toys they received from their father last week. Raina looked at him and smiled. He quickly ran towards his mother and hugged her tight. She carried him in her arms and asked what happened with his agenda.
"We will visit her this weekend, okay? For now, focus on your studies." She smiled at him and he nodded while surrendering the small paper he received from Ayami's mother. He helped his mother to prepare dinner.
"Okaa-san, can I invite Gia to play with us this weekend?" Little Riku suddenly asked and Raina stopped from eating. She looked at Reiki and saw him looking down on his food. She shifted her gaze on Little Riku and smiled.
"Can you invite her next time? We will go to the hospital this weekend. We will visit Reiki's classmate." Raina said and the younger twin pouted. Reiki reached for her arm and forced a smile.
"I can go there alone, Okaa-san. You can stay with Riku." The older twin said and she couldn't help but to feel bad about it. Having twins was a little difficult for her, especially when her husband is always at work. Though she can always ask for a caretaker when she needs to.
"Can we ask for a caretaker? Riku and Gia will stay at home while I'll go with Reiki to the hospital to visit his classmate." She asked her husband about it and then, they arranged things for the twins.
Little Reiki was answering some homeworks when Little Riku arrived. The younger twin had already finished his homeworks earlier and then, he went to his older twin's room to ask him about the girl their mother talked about. Little Riku peeked on his homework sheets and then, he covered it with his arms before looking at him. The younger one smiled sheepishly and he hid the sheets away.
"Who is your classmate?" Little Riku asked and he gave him a questioning look. Though he knew who he was pertaining to, he didn't have any plans to tell him about Ayami. He stood up from his seat and then, he opened the door for him.
"It's a secret that I will never tell you. Go back to your room. I will sleep now." He answered and Little Riku puffed his cheeks. The younger twin followed his older twin's order and left the room silently. He locked the door and then, he went back to his desk to pull out the small greeting card he made earlier.
There were tiny doodles on it and then, his personal message for Ayami. He got the envelope and sealed it in there. He stuck it between the pages of his notebook and then, he continued answering his homeworks. A few minutes later, he heard a knock from outside and it was their mother. He immediately unlocked the door and she invited him to go to the master's bedroom since Little Riku suggested that they should sleep together that night. He reached up for her and then, he told her that he was not yet done with his homeworks.
"Let's finish it." She smiled softly at him and then, she placed a kiss on his forehead. They went back to his desk and helped him finish everything before they could turn the lights off and go to the master's bedroom.
Weekend has arrived. Little Reiki was carrying his backpack when the taxi arrived. Little Riku and Little Gia were left at home with a caretaker. Raina helped him to get in the taxi and then, she gave the address to the driver. It took them half an hour to finally arrive at the hospital.
A few ambulances came and then, people were rushed to the emergency room. They approached the reception area and asked if they could visit a little girl named Ayami from Room 134. The two nurses looked at each other.
"I'm sorry to tell you this but the little girl from Room 134 is already gone. She passed away yesterday." The nurse broke the news and Little Reiki just stared at them with no emotions. He gripped on the box of cupcakes he was carrying and then, Raina asked where they could locate Ayami's family.
"Okaa-san.. I can still visit her, right?" Little Reiki asked when they were inside the taxi. Raina nodded while smiling faintly. When the hospital visit turned into a funeral visit. They arrived at the place and saw Ayami's parents sending out the guests.
"Hello. My name is Reiki. I'm Ayami's classmate." He said when he approached them and bowed his head. He handed the box of cupcakes to them and they were crestfallen. They let them in and then, he saw Ayami's huge portrait displayed on the altar. It was his first time to see Ayami with her natural hair.
"I told you, Okaa-san. She is cute." He said while smiling and Raina nodded. They offered prayer to Ayami's soul and then, he just sat there quietly while staring at her portrait. They placed a cupcake near her urn and then, after a short while, Raina handed a white envelope with money in it.
"I'm sorry for your loss. We didn't know. We went to the hospital to visit Ayami because Reiki said he wanted to pay her a visit and give her the cupcakes I baked but the nurse said that.. she is already gone. Please accept this. I'm sorry if I only have white envelope." Raina said quietly to Ayami's parents while they were in the kitchen.
"I remember your son. Ayami was excited to see him but she didn't make it because she had a relapse. We let her finish all the cookies he gave that day before we left the preschool." Ayami's mother said and she smiled sadly.
