Making History Memes

"Yes," He answered. An accountant? Why was she asking about this? Of course he had an accountant. He had several. He had to double check the books though. It was best that he double checked to make sure the numbers weren't off. And also he needed to make sure no one was embezzling funds. He did have a lot of extra paperwork that he had to do today, but that was because he also had to go through the work profiles of teachers in the capital. Then he had to go further and check into the character of the ones that stood out, and see if they were capable of keeping it a secret that his new wife literally didn't know anything about their own government. And he only checked the accounts once a month. He was supposed to have done it yesterday, but put off most of it until this morning.

This was the busiest part of the spring. After their walk, he was going to have to do more work. Then he would probably have to stay in his office until Dinner. Then he could talk more to Olivia. In about a week's time he would be relatively free for a while. Then she would probably think he was a loafer.

He was excited to have her near him, and he wanted to talk to her more about whatever place she was from since she had said it was futuristic. He was thinking about it as he was going over some documents.

She cocked her head to the side and asked, "You do?" She nodded in thought. Then she looked up at him again. "Do you use standardized forms for the things you do?"

"Standard forms?" He asked her.

Olivia leaned in closer to Adarian so that only he could hear her. "In my old world it was an established thing to do. Everyone had standardized forms, and if the forms weren't used, or were filled out incorrectly then they would send it back, so they could fix it. It helped in collecting a lot of information all at once."

"Your mind is more focused on my work than this garden or me?" Adarian asked her as he leaned in just a few centimeters Olivia could feel his lips on her skin close to her temple as he spoke.

She squeaked and moved back a bit. This man was way too dangerous! How did they always end up being so close?

She cleared her throat and said, "Sorry, I'll focus on the conversation now."

He loved watching her face as she reacted to everything. He could tell she was definitely not used to interacting with members of the opposite sex too often. It was a good thing for him, because she always left herself wide open. This was something he would definitely continue to take advantage of. But he really was going to have to teach her to be wary of all other men in existence. He didn't know how Olivia could have gotten the reputation she had when she was so cute.

He laughed, "You can tell me all about your Idea for my paperwork once we get back to the office. But for right now," He playfully twirled her, startling her for a moment, and then made her continue walking with him on the garden path, "we'll continue walking off our food, and you can tell me what you think of the garden."

All the people in attendance saw a young couple in love.

"It's beautiful," Olivia nodded. She wanted to keep her mind on the conversation at hand. She was almost certain his lips had left some sort of electrical charge when they touched her face earlier. She still had a lingering feeling of them on her skin like they had been glued there.

If she experienced that again anytime soon she was going to have a heart attack.

"It's yours," he said nonchalantly.

Olivia froze in place after processing what he just said. "Mine?" … "What's mine?"

"The garden," He replied. "It's yours to change however you want. You can design it."

"Oh," she replied. 'So he just wanted me to work as a designer. I get it. He scared me for a minute there. I still don't know when or if the original Olivia will come back or not. If she does… I don't want to think about that just yet.' Olivia was subconsciously rejecting the idea that something could be hers in this world. She was sure he meant all of this to be for Olivia Praxis and not for her, Olivia Carter. She was just here borrowing someone else's life for an unspecified amount of time. "It's so pretty though. Are you sure you want to change it?"

Adarian studied her and said, "This garden has remained unchanged for years. The soil is already tired, and the plants will start dying soon if we don't change it. I was hoping you could help me with this since I'm so busy."

"I can. Yes, I can help with that. When do we start on it?" Olivia really did want to help him. He was so busy all the time, and then he went and took time out of his busy schedule to rescue her from her own ignorance, and now he was going to help her learn about the world so she could live in it. She had to do something for him.

He smiled at her, "Once we get through some of your lessons. And you learn more about," he gestured outwardly toward everything, "...being the queen."

Olivia nodded, he needed her to learn a bit more about the world first, then he could get help from her. Of course. If she didn't know anything, what if she did something wrong. Didn't flowers back home have their own language? It's not like she ever learned it, but what if it was important here. There was just too much information lacking from the original novel!

They went back to Adarian's office, where he began more paperwork, and he had handed Olivia a book to read. It was a history book.

"Since you were bored earlier," He had said when he handed it to her. This would have been helpful earlier when she was bored. But now she was deeply interested in his paperwork. She was great at paperwork. She loved it when she could temp in an office and do paperwork.

Olivia put the book down unopened. "Do you need any help?" she asked.

"I have this all under control," He smiled at her. "If you want to help me, for now, read your book. Once you've completed your studies, you can help me." He was referring to her Queen and bridal training. She thought he was talking about learning about this world she was in. Perhaps she could learn some pop culture while she was at it.

She obediently opened her book to start reading. She didn't like reading history books when she was in school. But this was a history book on a whole other planet. It surely wouldn't be boring right?

Wrong.

There seemed to be some sort of rule that history books were written to be boring everywhere. There were a lot of interesting things that happened in history. But to be honest it was history buffs on social media making meme's that made her learn interesting things about history. She did not have that option here. She really missed the internet!

She tried one more time to read it from the beginning, she decided that if memes on the internet helped her learn some history before, then she would try to make memes in her head about the history she was reading. That might work right?

It did. But it also distracted her from learning a whole lot, and she had to re-read the first chapter all over again.

Adarian saw her struggling and thought to himself, 'I really need to get her a tutor fast. I think she re-read the first chapter three times!'

Did she have a hard time with reading comprehension?

She was so smart. He knew she could figure it out, but having her sit here besides him unable to ask questions that would reveal she was not the original Olivia… That was probably not easy for her. He thought about what it would be like if he suddenly found himself on a different planet altogether not even knowing the most basic things. He still hadn't gotten over the fact that she almost went to the Southern Temple. She didn't even know who Ultor was!

It was a good thing he had sent Davier to bring Olivia to the castle after all. He had just finished reading the report, and it was hard to control his emotions right now. He was glad she was distracted.
