Chapter 17: Our Mother Was Still The Best!

Stories of spiritual beings and monsters were passed down from ancient times.

In the present age, however, it was rare for people to encounter such a supernatural existence.

No one could tell exactly how long the old turtle had lived, but just based on its age, it must have been one that had cultivated into a spiritual being. None of the residents of Spirit Water Village had ever seen such a huge old turtle.

When Mrs. Xu's eyes and the old turtle's met, she instinctively felt that this turtle was a little different.

The next moment, the old turtle stepped forward with four short, thick, strong legs and quickly reached Mrs. Xu before it stopped, motionless.

"What's wrong? What happened? Move, move, move, don't block me!"

Hearing the commotion of the people around him, Mr. Xu, who hadn't seen what happened, started to become irritated. "All of you stop talking!" he howled. "Get out of my way!"

Mr. Xu's outcry had quite a deterrent effect. The yard instantly fell silent, and some people even obediently created a passage.

Mr. Xu could finally see what had happened.

The old turtle was lying in front of Mrs. Xu, motionless, obedient like a Pekingese.

The three brothers, who followed behind Mr. Xu, were also dumbfounded. Was this the same old turtle from just earlier that the three of them were only able to hold down by combining their strengths?

Second Xu simple-mindedly made a very incisive concluding speech, "As expected, our mother is still the best in our family!"

"Get out, get out; there's nothing interesting to see! It's just an old turtle, get out, get out!" When Mr. Xu saw that everything had settled down, he decisively began to shoo people out.

Their home was not a circus. It was senseless for such a large group of people to crowd into their own home.

In the end, after a lot of talking, the family managed to persuade the villagers to leave their home.

The residence was finally quiet.

"Mother, how did you manage to do this?" Second Xu said, coming up to Mrs. Xu. "Why is that old turtle crawling around you? Teach me!"

"Get lost—" Mrs. Xu dismissed him with a single phrase.

She also wanted to know why this old turtle kept circling her.

Was it truly because of the baby in her belly?

Mrs. Xu thought about it carefully. These days, she had not had any weird dreams. Hadn't that storyteller always said that if a person had great blessings, when their mother gave birth to them, there would be unnatural phenomena? And even when the mother was pregnant, she would have all sorts of extraordinary dreams?

The smoke from the ancestral grave, the huge unprecedented fish that the eldest child and second child had captured, and the portrait that the third child had drawn, earning him fifty taels of silver. And lastly, such a big turtle that the third child had caught from the river.

Were these events the unnatural phenomenon that the storyteller had mentioned?

If that were the case, then this little thing in her belly must be truly incredible.

Their dinner was another full fish feast!

After eating, the whole family was left with greasy mouths; all of them felt their full bellies and hiccupped.

Mr. Xu took advantage of this opportunity to tell off Youngest Xu, who was a good seed for studying. "Youngest Xu, tomorrow morning, let your eldest brother take you back to the city. Study hard there!"

"Father, don't worry, your son will definitely be able to pass next year!" Youngest Xu was full of confidence.

  ...

When it was nighttime, each of them went back to their respective rooms.

Mrs. Xu grabbed Mr. Xu and entered their room. After closing the door, she whispered, "Dear, we made too much of a commotion today. What if someone else hears the news?"

With so many miraculous events happening one after another, it would inevitably make some people suspicious—and once the suspicions started, things would become entirely different.

Mr. Xu smiled and said, "Dear, you're thinking too much. Believe it or not, whatever happened in our house today, other than the villagers in the Spirit Water Village, few people would believe it!"
