"So she is gonna be okay, you're saying?" Roydon confirmed for the umpteenth time, his concern for his younger sister apparent on his face.
"Yes, she just needs a few more days of rest. She went through a lot," I repeated.
Upon our return, we had to dissuade Roy's worry, then we moved Cecelia to her bed inside, where Luna and Grace took care of her. The medicine I had given her rendered her unconscious for several days to allow her body and mind to recover. I could have just given her a health potion and had her awaken back in the cave. But, instead, I decided it would be better for her to sleep until she was healed and then awaken in a familiar room.
Roy had been apprehensive about leaving his sister in the care of what he believed to be 2 human women. He had not voiced this concern, but I saw it in his eyes as he had a look of panic when I said that Luna and Grace would attend to her since they were all women. Before I had a chance to voice my position on demi-humans and that I was travelling with two right now, Roy spotted the glimmering medallion on my belt.
"You are an ally of the races? You would fight against your own kind?"
I picked up on what precisely the medallion I had received truly meant, thanks to Roy's context clues. "Girls," I motioned to the two of them to take their hoods down. As they did, and their animal ears were unveiled, Roy's eyes went wide. Luna moved to my side and kissed my cheek before explaining, "He saved me and has since become my lover." Then, she gestured to Grace, "We also saved Grace during the rescue of your sister."
Nodding slowly, Roy clarified, "You really don't mind going against your own people?"
"Monsters who oppress other people are no kin of mine." I spat. With those words, the dwarf gripped my hand, giving it a shake. He apologized for doubting us. After the girls took Cecelia to her room to clean her, Roy remembered his promise to reward me. He showed me around his shop to view all the different arms and armour he could make.
My chest armour had been destroyed during the fight with Skud, and my remaining armour just was not up to the task. So I explained my fighting style to Roy. I highlighted that I needed some armour protection but could not jeopardize my agility and maneuverability. I also explained that I fought using my armoured gauntlets, which I brought out of Storage along with the remains of my armour. I had been playing with the idea of varying my close combat style by armouring my boots and greaves similarly to my gauntlets, so all four of my extremities could deal death in a fight.
Roy and I spent the evening in the workshop, taking turns making drafts and refinements to my new armour set. We got so into the design process that we ended up working throughout the rest of the evening. We were lucky enough to have Luna prepare and serve us dinner while Grace watched over Cecelia. The two of them had bathed the dwarf girl, ensuring her external wounds had all healed, before dressing her in pyjamas and placing her in the bed.
Roy and I had finished most of the design, with only materials choices left to be made. Noticing the later hour and hearing Grace's yawn from upstairs, I decided it was time to call it a night. We wished Roy a goodnight before we headed to our hotel, I hopped into the back of the wagon while Grace steered and Luna navigated for her.
We made it to the Guild and parked the carriage without issue. Grace followed us as we headed inside to inform them of our safe return. Once we finished making sure we had not forgotten to do anything this evening, we headed to the hotel through the back passage between the Guild and the hotel.
When we stepped through into the splendour of the hotel's dining room, I heard a sharp intake of air from Grace. I looked back to see if she was alright, "Sorry," she bowed in apology. So I guess she was alright.
Going to turn back around, I looked upon the maitre d' of the restaurant. Noticing my stare, the sharply dressed older man approached me. "Is there something I could do to make your stay more comfortable, sire?" I realized that we had only had two meals today, and now that the aromas of the fine dining establishment were tickling my nose, I was somewhat peckish. So I ordered a dozen different dishes to be delivered to our room.
I had plans to toss whatever we did not feel like eating into my Storage for later. The maitre d' did not even question the large order that seemed incongruous with the size of our party. His professionalism was admirable.
Leaving the dining area, we walked into the even more opulent foyer reception area. A tiny squeak sounded behind me. I turned to look at Grace once again. This time, however, she had not gotten a hold of herself as quickly as she had in the dining room. Instead, her mouth, barely visible under the hood of her large cloak, hung agape as she took in the beautiful architecture and lavish furnishings. Luna lightly hip-tapped Grace to bring her out of her momentary reverie.
"Sorry." Grace's whisper could hardly be made out. I did not blame her for her shock at the hotel's affluent nature. The poor girl had lived as a slave, made to suffer in squalor, for who knows how long. It made me want to spoil the poor girl. I would have to control myself while we are still in the dangerous human lands, though.
"Welcome back, sir!" The cheery nighttime front desk attendant beamed. I nodded in recognition before the three of us headed to our room.
"Wow," "Awesome," "So biiiig!" Grace was gushing about our accommodations. In our private suite, the girls now had the cloaks off, and Luna and I were watching, smiles on our faces, as the bunny girl explored the room like a small child on vacation. "This room is yours," I opened the door to one of the several rooms off the main living space. Inside was a queen-sized bed. "All for me?"
At a loss for words, Grace just stared at the massive bed. "Go on, dive into it. It is gonna be the best sleep you have ever had!" I encouraged her. "Not so fast," Luna cut in. "First, you have to get cleaned up. Then put on your pyjamas. I made several pairs just for you." Luna, hands on her hips, striking a matronly pose, blocked the way.
She grabbed Grace by the shoulders and guided her into the bathroom, "Then you can dive into the bed," I heard Luna quietly add as the girls disappeared into the bathroom.
I took a seat at the dining table and set out all the dishes. After a few minutes, Luna entered the main room. She wore a blue, cashmere set of pyjamas, consisting of a short-sleeved shirt and loose pair of shorts, stood in front of Grace. "Ta-daaaa!" Luna dramatically introduced Grace by standing aside to reveal the blushing bunny girl, clad in a matching set of pyjamas in pink. "Well, don't you two just look adorable." Grace looked up at the compliment. "Really?"
"Absolutely," I confirmed. "Now, little miss, it is time for bed." I stood up and guided Grace to her room. Once we got there, I mimed diving into the bed to remind her of the sacred ritual. Following my instructions, she did a graceful running belly flop onto the bed. I suppose it indeed was the most comfortable bed she had ever experienced, as her light snoring could be heard mere fractions of a second after her head touched the pillow.
The silly girl had not even gotten under the cover. Luna and I looked at each other, rolling our eyes and laughing at the situation. I picked Grace up so Luna could pull down the covers. I placed the skinny, fragile girl back onto the mattress before Luna tucked her into the sheets.
Now, with our new party member asleep, Luna and I closed the door to the room and headed to the kitchen table. We took turns feeding each other bits and pieces from the dishes we liked the best before finally putting the food away and heading to our bathroom.
We helped each other scrub down in the shower before our lust got the better of us. Then, in the warm cascade of the shower head's downpour, Luna and I held one another and joined in a series of passionate embraces.
After expressing our love for one another, we cleaned our bodies again before donning some pyjamas and going to bed. We had been lying in bed for no more than thirty minutes when we felt the presence of a young lonely girl near the foot of the bed. I stayed pretending to sleep, my back to the middle of the bed. Luna encouraged Grace to come to snuggle to chase away the bad dreams the girl had evidently been suffering.
With the timid rabbit girl cuddled between the two of us, our new surrogate family drifted off to sleep, all nestled together.
