Chapter 40.

•Y/N POV•

"How are you feeling, young Y/N?" All Might asked, after having filled me in on the latest news around the League of Villains. Everyone else had skirted around that part of conversation smoothly, but he hit me head on with it.

We were both sat in my room of the hospital, the curtains closed expertly, just enough to shield the sun from glaring in and taunting me for being unable to go outside just yet. My freedom is near, however, from this place full of antibac.

Before I realised my mind was wandering, a large hand gently waved infront of my blank expression. Immediately, my eyes shifted over to the smiley man.

"..oh, right. I've been doing okay, for someone who's stuck in a place full of people who aren't okay." I joked lightly, a small smile having forced its way on my lips just to emphasise.

He didn't seem to get the joke as he stared for a moment, before releasing a bellowing laughter. That's when he got the joke. He slapped his knee, admist, soon to let out a final chuckle before leaning closer and 'whispering'. "I heard they may release you anytime this week, especially considering your fast regeneration and how you're walking well. So, I was wondering, are you up for a mission?"

The mere question had my heart clenching, in a good way this time. Excitement consumed me as I nodded frantically, anything to get me from letting my mind linger on... him.

"Great!" He stood abruptly, patting my head once, soon to step towards the exit which was framed by a pair of potted plants. "I'll come pick you up when you're out- oh, and I hope you don't mind I put myself as your emergency contact." He grinned back at me, offering a brief thumbs-up, before continuing out the door.

The sigh of relief that exhaled caused me to realise how long I'd been holding my breath for. I didn't want him to notice how ragged my breathing had become since the surgery, the tendril having caught my lungs admist the assault. One side had half missing from it, which the surgery had patched up. The effects would be longer lasting than that ten hour operation.

My eyes rose to the doorway once more, noticing how large it looked compared to the miniature room I was accommodating. The bed fit well enough, though the only other appliances were the drip and a couple bookshelves along the back wall. A tiny window slid along the side, of which, the sun was now taunting me through the curtain.

Right. I forgot I'm going to be out in the real world soon, with people and countless awkward conversations.

At least now I won't need to always wait and depend on a message that I used to receive relatively frequently from Kai. It wouldn't come this time.

Yes, I missed him more than I let on, but I also was angry.

Furious.

Infuriated.

He wasn't going to win this battle if it came to it. I was going to prepare. There won't be a second tendril impaling me, if he is alive, and if he does return.
