Logbook #030 - The Infection

[The tape shifts to its other side automatically with the help of Id'dreek's powers]

Gurgling and mumbling constant gibberish, the pain through his heart, started to pulse worse as he loses his breathing and started feeling weak. He mumbled softly to help, as his view started to blur even with his glasses on.

A familiar voice calling out to him, she sprints towards him with a constant rhythmical pattern as she pats him a few times and turns him over.

Calling over for a medic, the familiar voice checked his pulse as she notices his eyes and mouth bleeding out blood slowly. "What the hell?" It shouted as a feeling of warmth rubs on his cheek as the person inspects the liquid.

"This is blood." she stutters as the medic helped out by removing his shirt and bringing out a bag of medical tools.

"Bleeding in the eyes and mouth, breathing is terrible. Blood pulsing slow." The medic answered as she checks William up with a device.

With a sudden act of realization, the medic then stands up and calls the guards to stand the others back to their offices and get everyone back as far as possible.

"Can this be?" The medic asks herself as she looks towards William's familiar partner.

"What do you mean, this can be? Is this The Happening or just a normal disease?" The partner asks as the medic shakes her head.

"No, this is something else, Frau Leutenegger. Something worse from The Happening." The medic replied as she then pulls out a needled syringe and extracts some blood from him before containing it into a test tube. "This is something, recent. I can say."

"What is it? Tell me, like his captain, I need to know." She asks eagerly in a very strict way.

"We call it here "The Immortaguine" virus. It is a disease that makes its victims bleed from its mouth and eyes before gaining a more, aggressive side effect. It has been happening quite recently in our base and also the nearby towns, I think he may have been infected by it too." The medic replies before pulling up her walkie-talkie, giving orders and a response.

"Then, do something!" The captain answers.

"Sorry can't, we don't have a cure nor a temporary antidote for it currently. Its origins are unknown and it isn't that known enough to consider a cure yet." The medic replies after turning off her walkie-talkie. "Not even the guardians know what to do about it..."

"So what now? Are we just going to strap him with an IV bag and drag him to the infirmary?" Shanina asks as she gestures to Damonica who came in contact with the three.

"Miss, you may need to stay back." The medic raises her head as she helps out to pull up William onto a rolling hospital bed.

Before giving orders, her partner was struggling to strap on William, as he started struggling left and right with a sudden urge of sensitivity.

"Doctor, he is starting to change... It's hard to put it on!" The nurse shouted as pulls with as much strength as he started giving out spasms and fits.

'Alright, Everyone. Stand back!" The medic then shouts out loud before doing the work for herself. Holding both ends of the rope tightly, she does her best to buckle up the strap before pulling it off tightly.

Without taking care, William then suddenly became less of a human and more of an aggressive animal. He shouts with an abnormal shout before biting down hard on the throat of the medic. Grinding his whole jaw on the piece of meat, he then rips it off and forces himself off from the straps.

The medic in shock, held her throat as she started coughing blood. Trying to say something, she mumbled as she oozed blood. Spitting it off onto the ground.

"Remember, no shoot. It won't work." The nurse calls out holding onto a guard who was armed before running away.

"Gahhh.....!" The medic screamed in agony before dropping on the floor, motionless.

William was standing still. He stared at his hands as it clawed and was dripping with a reddish liquid, inspecting it, he could taste metal and strange chewy flesh between his molar and incisor. "What's happening?" He asked as his blurry sight recognized the voice of Shanina and Demonica who called out to him. Feeling the burn in his heart once more, he holds onto his chest as he suddenly got controlled by an unknown entity.

Everything fainted to black as it happened. In a fit of sudden rage, the sound of unman-like screams and growls could be heard as the sound of windowpanes shattered screaming could be heard at random directions.

Hearing a sound of coughs and heavy breathing, someone pushes off the tape recorder where it made a metal clank and broke the lens of the recorder.

A sound of struggle could be heard as the overpowering person pushes off the other towards a wall, the opposite of the recorder. Probably trying to not use weapons, they had no choice but to use their physical strength to slow down the situation.

A hand reaches the recorder as she fixes up the lens and looks at it. With a smile, it was Shin-ae who was inspecting the recorder to see if she fixed it properly. Her ears drooping left and right, she then pockets the recorder between her cleavages before being led by a soldier who was armed with a stun baton.

"So miss, why can't we use weapons! Not even your specialities? Aren't they like magical?" Curious, the soldier then pushes off an infected that tried sprinting to them being before kicking it to a corner.

"If we use our weapons, it could infect us too, miss soldier. Blood is how it transfers, so if we shoot or cut them down, not only it will reduce the population even worse but it will also give bigger chances to infect through the air." Shin-ae replies as she read a document that she slips off during her invisible stalking when William was in the cafe. "Once the blood enters your veins, it will try to infect your brains, corrupting it to a blackened and controlled state, the brain stays still, however, dormant."

"Wheres the other one of yours? Your sister." The soldier asked before gesturing to the hiding comrades who were trying to extract the staffs out of the building, only that, that was the worse decision made.

"Oh, Sae-Yong? She is in the English-land now, she is reporting what happened to Sho-san and everyone else here." Shin-ae replies as she then protects the soldier by summoning a barricade causing the infected to trip off it onto the ground.

The soldier then finishes it off by stunning it with her stunning baton, once again.

"I am sorry for your partner, but we will try to get him back to normal as soon as possible." The soldier replied before heading to the other soldiers. "Bridgette, that's my name. 2nd in command of Global Corp company."

"Global Corp?" Shin-ae asked in a confused way as her ears dropped together. Trying to remember what it meant, Bridgette then decides to explain what was it. "So, it's like a professional soldier's recruitment team."

Nodding her head yes, Bridgette then explains why was she here as Shin-ae was a little curious about her reasoning for her sudden arrival.

"I was called in yesterday night to help in with your partner and his comrades case of finding one of my old partners and gain intelligence for her vigilante actions. Her name was Katherine, commonly known as Vulture." Bridgette replies as guides the soldiers out of the building to contain the safety of the building.

As the soldier ran here and there with assisting medics and firefighters, they stripped off the building they barricaded it off with sandbags and also knocked up boards filled with nails to block off windows.

The sounds of sirens and panic blared everywhere, as the whole place was in chaos. Shin-ae not used to seeing this kind of situation, felt a little sad in her heart as her chest became tight, squeezing the tape recorder making her feel rather uncomfortable.

Standing still, she looks around before feeling a pat on her back. "Come on, let's go," Bridgette calls Shin-ae for her attention before guiding her to their assigned jeep. Knocking the sides of the door, the doors unlock as Bridgette slips into it before handing a hand to Shin-ae to enter the big vehicle.

Pulling out the tape recorder from her cleavage, Shin-ae looks at the lens once more before hugging onto it, speaking softly to it and humming a strange and old tune of an oriental lullaby. "Hope everything will be ok..." She mutters as the car then revs on and drives quickly in a certain direction.

"So where are we going, General?" Bridgette asks the driver as she leans forward and opens a small latch to uncover the front view.

Still concentrating on driving, the general then explained her idea. "We are heading to the south, to the other and safer Continuum branch. We can't head out to the public since I am sure the infection will commence over there and we need to at least keep some of you guys alive as much as possible for assistance."

"Wait, so you are saying, we are going to just let collateral damage happen to the civilians and everyone else in it?!" Bridgette shouts back in shock to hear what the captain said about the situation.

"Miss Bridgette, we have no choice. If we cannot shoot and cut down the infected with our current resources, we need to find alternatives. Sit back and calm yourselves, alright? We aren't the only ones here in shock. We already knew this would happen some time ago, but not with the foreign backups." The General answered before pressing a button, closing the hatch.

"Shit!" Bridgette grunts as she knocks on the metal bench she was sitting on. The other soldiers either ignored or shared her pain of what's happening.

Turning to Shin-ae, something popped up in her head. "Could this unknown disease be related to the bio-mother?"

Shin-ae turning back blinks twice before answering, trying to understand what she meant. "I don't know actually. I never actually saw the Bio-mother nor knew her powers. But it is possible since it is also based on corruption."

"I mean it kind of makes sense in a way or two. What if the Bio-mother was fed up with controlling the Axis soldiers, causing her corruption to go sporadic and free-willed. Since her abilities seem to be a little unlimited in directions, I am sure she could be involved."

Shin-ae nods slowly as she lets the tape recorder, record the theory. It could be useful if she were to share it with anyone she can trust in the hopes of finding a cure. "I suppose so. Sho-san is not Patient Zero since this disease was already being investigated in secret for quite some time. He may have acquired it accidentally during his journey to a partner's dimension or just through the air."

After an hour or so of just spouting theories and arguments here and there, the tape then fast forwards itself to a further period where they ended up at the branching office.

The soldiers were rushed out to leave as they then ventured into a very small-medium bunker which led down a flight of stairs before entering a place filled with devices and a few scientists experimenting on captured infected with blood tests.

The bunker was hidden beside the office which was only meant as an information outlet for tourists and other sightseers. With it hidden this way, it would be impossible to realise that there was a military base under it.

As Shin-ae and the rest were led afterwards to a meeting room, they were introduced to multiple captains and holograms of Generals from the multiple branches of different countries.

"Welcome soldiers, we were just talking about you and who is this?" One of the captains asked as she points to Shin-ae.

Demonica and Shanina who were already there at an earlier point in time gained their attention by clearing her throat. "She is my comrade's guardian. She has evidence that could help our investigation. Please, Miss Shin-ae if you may."

Shin-ae nods before walking through a table like a spiritual being. Heading towards the wall at the back, she pulls down a screen as she then plays a recording of what happened to William during his visit to Beo before, during and after with the added on theories that could work out.

"The infection of these disease comes through contact with blood and saliva, it can be done physically, accidentally and also in contact when flying through the air. Once the infection starts, it will corrupt the brain of the humans in contact and slowly controls the said host to go in a rather aggressive state. They seem to attack randomly but they do not attack anyone else who is either terminally sick or just immune somehow."

The captains looking back at their general, exchanged their thoughts before one of the captains raised their hands. "So you are saying, we just have to infect ourselves with other diseases to not get caught?"

Shanina then proceeds to answer her question. "Well, technically yes, to avoid being seen, but, we still can get infected unless our natural immunity is in top shape."

"Then what about your partner? Where is he currently? How come he wasn't immune to it but The Happening?" The captain asked back after listening to Shanina's answer.

"He has been locked up with the others in the Main Continuum building, I think." Bridgette interferes as she leans in, looking at the video slides.

"No, he managed to escape." The German general pops out. "He acts a little different however, he seems to still be able to partially control himself but he headed himself to hide somewhere to avoid contact."

"Wait, what!?" Shanina shouts. "He managed to escape the facility! How are we going to find him then?"

"Well, I guess we have to go with the stumbling approach." A soldier answered as she sat on a stool.

The general raising her hand, she halts the commotion before trying to communicate with Shin-ae and the holograms.

"Do you know where your contracts are Miss?" The general asked Shin-ae before turning back from Ferdunov's questioning. Looking at the German General, she then nods. "Yes, I do. Including my sister. Our crystals are still attached to him so it homes in with our GPS.

"Care to share your GPS?" The general asked kindly.

"No, I can't actually," Shin-ae answered. "It's related to more of animalistic abilities than actual devices."

A scientist then shrugs before asking. "So basically it's inside of your brain then."

Shin-ae nods slowly before turning back to the others.

"Well, as long as you and your sister can know where your partner is roaming around in god knows where we will allow you to help us freely in our labs and armoury. Share your knowledge and let us speak with the Elders please, this is urgent." The German General explained as a scientist rushes into the room.

"General, General! Come and look at this! Everyone has to see it." Rushing towards the screen, she then presses a few buttons before it showcased live news footage of what is happening.

Shin-ae moved aside to have a better picture of what is happening and to let the others see too.

Noticing at the screen were panicking people here and there as drastic attacks came here and there. Not only Germany but a few other countries suddenly had outbreaks out of thin air with an incoherent message.

A captain got up in shock and slams the table. "You got to be kidding me. This is...terrible."

"We're losing more people than the ones we already loss."

A soldier beside calms down the captain by rubbing her back before slowly guiding her to sit down.

"I know it hurts to see what is happening, but now we have no choice but to find a way to subdue or else, eliminate these infections."

"I suppose killing them is possible as long as we don't come in contact with their blood, yes?" Another captain asked.

Shin-ae surprised, she nods quickly before thinking up an idea. "Maybe wear filtered gas masks could do the tricks."

"But, kill. Are you serious? We got serious lives over there!" Bridgette intervenes

"She meant killing the infected. We will subdue the civilians and try to monitor them and find a cure."

"Fine, if that what it takes." Bridgette sighs off.

Shanina raises her hand, willing to ask something.

"What is it Captain Leutenegger?" The German General asked.

"Since we have an idea how to eliminate the infected, locate my missing partner and also have the Global Corps second in command in our side, doesn't that mean, we are one-off easier to close in." Shanina questions.

The other captains realised what she meant and exchanged ideas before the German General halt it once more and discusses it with the other Generals. "Will that work?"

"Sure, we could proceed with our current idea for now before all hell let loose." General Ferdunov answers before crossing her arms.

"Alright folks, you know what to do. Soldiers, you prepare your equipment and purchase yourself a mask if you. didn't. Scientists do your work and make sure you don't let those captured infected loose, Alright! "

"Jawohl!" They shouted before being excused to leave.

"Miss Shanina, Damonica, Fox person, you follow me. Oh yeah, you too Miss Bridgette." The German General gestures to them after turning off the holograms.

"So, what is our job?" Shanina asked.

"Simple...You four will be assigned together to find your partner, oh, and enjoy your killing spree." The German General chuckled softly as the tape then dies down from battery loss. "You will need it."

Not the one Mary is using but rather the one during Shin-ae's time.
