Lannis raised his hand in salute and walked off cheerfully.
"Your Excellency," Heinrich, the standard-bearer, quietly asked behind Winters: "You seem... not quite pleased?"
"No," Winters rubbed his chin, "I am very gratified. We achieved a major victory at minimal cost."
"But you... haven't smiled," Heinrich pointed to their comrades in the valley, "At least not as happy as everyone else."
Heinrich was right: nearly every surviving light cavalryman in the valley wore a smile of triumph. Only Winters' expression remained solemn.
"According to Tie Chi's account, the Chilian Sect should have a significant number of slaves," Winters mused aloud. "But... do you see the slaves who should be here?"
Heinrich was startled: "Only female slaves."
"Exactly, only female slaves," Winters narrowed his eyes unconsciously. "Bring the guide to me."
