Chapter 2

Conor was in a very tight place now. He was scheduled to visit a new reality in a very short period of time. He had attended the mission briefing a few days earlier and was now pretty much ready to jump into the hole.

Suddenly, his phone rang up. He was needed at the conference room, right then. He walked to the room hurriedly as he felt that something was urgent. Once he reached the room, he only saw Prof. Brent there.

'Hey, Brent. What's the matter?' Conor asked. Prof. Brent gestured at him to sit down.

'We prepared updates on your mission target. Please listen carefully.' Prof. Brent said in a serious manner.

'Okay, what do I have to do now?' Conor asked.

'We need you to bring back some seeds from there. As you know, crops we have now has a high chance to fail, and if it does fail, our gene banks are almost empty so we cannot replant.' Prof. Brent explained.

'How much do I need to bring?' Conor asked while trying to figure out how much additional weight the seeds will cause.

'Bring at least a hundred grams of every single crop that you see. We are counting on you, Conor. If you fail to bring those seeds back- humanity will be doomed. We will all starve to death. Try not to waste too much time there too.' Prof. Brent explained.

'Wait, why not waste time?' Conor asked.

'Time dilation, Conor. Time dilation. You spend too much time there, several hundred years might have passed on Earth and we will be extinct by the time you get home.' Prof. Brent explained.

'Speaking of time, isn't there any other way to fix this issue?' Conor asked.

'Are you scared, Conor?' Prof. Brent asked back.

'How would you feel if you were to explore a reality, a reality you have absolutely no idea about?' Conor enquired.

'I know, it is intriguing. But this is the only solution we have. If you don't go, we are all doomed.' Prof. Brent answered.

'I know another way. Time-travel. It's simple enough, we go back in time, we fix whatever damage our forefather did before it was too late and then we come back. Boom!' Conor exclaimed.

'You can't be serious Conor. There's no such thing as going back to the past. Time is relative. Past, present, and future is just an illusion. besides there's entropy too and researchers made it clear that even if time travel is possible, we can't change things in the past.' Prof. Brent explained lengthily.

'What do you mean, past, present, and future is an illusion?' Conor asked.

'It's just an illusion Conor so that our brain can work without exploding. We are moving into the future every second. One moment you think of the future, the next moment you are already in the future. God damn it, Conor, you are a physician. You should know all these.' Prof. Brent said.

'BUT THERE'S GOT TO BE SOME OTHER WAY!' Conor shouted. Prof. Brent stayed silent. He flashed a quick smirk while shaking his head slowly. Without another word, Conor walked out of the room.
