Chapter 7

Conor rested on the bed for several hours and thought about all the things that had happened. He was thinking of what to do when reaching the NASA Headquarters. Even though it was still days away, he couldn't stop thinking about it.

It could not be denied that Conor was a little disappointed in himself. He really thought that bringing back some seeds were actually possible, but he failed to do so. He felt bad for himself, he felt bad for the world. He felt bad at the fact that he might the reason humanity will be extinct.

Slowly, he rolled off to deep sleep. Suddenly, he was back at the unknown reality. The sky's color was even a darker red now. He could see in the distance that hills were seeming to fly up, crumble, and disappear.

Not knowing what was going on for sure, Conor took several steps forward and glanced at the small patch of grass in front of him. He hadn't noticed it was there up until now. He crouched down and looked at the single flower on the patch. To his shock, the flower wilted, died, and turned to ashes before his very eyes.

He stood up slowly with a horrified look. He looked towards the horizon again. More hills were flying up. The sky had gone darker. Conor ran forwards, and he nearly collided with a bicycle. Strangely enough, the person riding the bike had his lower body only. The torso and upper body were completely missing.

Still wondering what happened there, he proceeded to walk towards the flying mountains. He was running at a steady pace, his mind occupied by the things that he had seen just now. Suddenly, he got hit by a strong force from his right side. He toppled- or flew- several meters and halted at the curb of the road.

Conor groaned while slowly opening his eyes. He just got hit by a truck. Slowly, he stood up. He felt no pain at all. That also befuddled him since the hit would've surely caused a few broken bones. Not only that, but he also had felt when the dust of the grey animal had gotten into his eyes.

Not giving his painless sensation much of a thought, he continued running towards the flying mountains. Suddenly, a shock wave appeared out of the blue, knocking down trees and hurling vehicles away. Conor was thrown into the air by the wave but he managed to grasp the roof of a building, preventing him from flying away.

Conor's ears started to ring. However, it wasn't just a normal ringing that people hear when a balloon pops right beside their ear. The ringing was faint and it sounded as if someone was saying something.

He got up slowly, hopped down from the roof of the one-story house, and continued running. The ringing in his ears is becoming clearer and louder. At one point, it suddenly stopped. Conor also stopped in his tracks.

Suddenly, the ringing got really loud. Ear-piercingly loud. It was a voice shouting "OUT!". The scream sounded, Conor covered his ears and saw terror at the same time. The terrain in front of him rose slowly before starting to descend on him. The land was being folded.

Scared for his life, Conor ran as fast as he could in the opposite direction. He could feel rocks and loose trees tumbling from up above. The force of their fall shook the terrain. Conor just sprinted on. He could see his shadow becoming fainter and fainter as the land got closer.

Suddenly, there was a big crash, a lot of jostling, and loud sounds. And all was dark.

Conor woke up with a gasp on the bed. He took in the surroundings around him. He was in the bedroom of Kristof's house. He was still breathing hard. 'It was just a dream' he thought. He took the bottle of water which was nearly empty and drank its full contents.

Slowly, he stood up and looked outside through the window. He could see only fields as far as the eye goes. Devastated fields, to be exact. In the distance, he could see Kristof digging a rather large hole. Conor sighed at the sight.

Earth was badly screwed, and Conor wondered how long Mother Nature will let them survive.
