Chapter 24

It must've been like three hours that Conor was passed out. When he came back to sense, he could see Alyssa standing next to him, staring into the horizon. Conor sat up slowly and carefully.

'How long was I out?' Conor asked. Alyssa let out a small yelp in surprise. She hadn't noticed Conor getting up.

'Are you okay?' Alyssa asked back. Conor insisted that his question needed answering.

'Yea I don't know to be honest. The watch stopped working- the digits are just flashing random numbers.' Alyssa asked. Conor wondered how that was possible. He stood up and stretched himself out and checked for injuries. Fortunately, he was completely fine.

'What did you see in your dreams about the reality?' Alyssa asked.

'Flying mountains. Literally.' Conor answered. Alyssa gestured towards the horizon behind him. He turned around and saw it as clearly as he saw in his dreams- mountains being hoisted up to the sky and destroyed to crumbs.

'Yes, that's exactly what I saw.' Conor said.

'You saw it? Just that or-' Alyssa asked.

'No, no. Something told my instincts that I needed to go to the mountains. It's as if I could find answers there.' Conor explained.

'Well then maybe we should pay it a visit, who knows we might see a shaman or something.' Alyssa said. Conor was taken aback for some reason.

'I saw the dream several times. I tried to go there several times. I got killed in the same way all the time.' Conor explained. Alyssa's eyes widened.

'That doesn't sound too pleasing.' Alyssa said. They didn't talk for several moments after that.

'I say, do you think we can die in this reality?' Conor asked. Alyssa shrugged.

'I suppose, no?' How can we die if you say the reality is like the Afterlife thing?' Alyssa asked.

'But you said this reality was different than the previous one.' Conor stated. Alyssa went "oh". 'All in all, it's going to be a gamble. I feel like we should go to the mountains and see for ourselves.' Conor said. Alyssa agreed and stood up slowly.

The pair started walking towards the horizon. Both of them were paying full attention to the surroundings so that they will notice if something tires to come and kill them.

'Watch out, we will face resistance on our way there. I remember a lot of wind and even a lorry ramming right into my body.' Conor said. As soon as he finished, a big animal came into view. From what Conor saw, it looked like a big-sized wolf- about as large as a grizzly bear. Whether or not it was really a wolf, nobody knows.

The wolf, growling, was on its own way. The yelp Alyssa gave out made the wolf look, making both the humans panic and freeze in their tracks.

'Okay...okay calm down. Let's walk back slowly and keep facing it. Don't turn around.' Conor whispered slowly. Alyssa nodded curtly and started doing as Conor told her to. The wolf however kept following them.

'If that thing decides to pounce on us, do we run?' Alyssa asked. Her voice was whimpering in fear.

'Run as you've never run before.' Conor replied. They kept walking back slowly and the wolf kept following them.

All of the sudden, the beast let out a loud growl and started to run towards its prey. Conor and Alyssa turned around instantly and sprinted. They could feel the footsteps of the wolf thumping on the ground.

They kept running for their lives. Conor tried to fling rocks and pebbles he found on the road towards the wolf but it didn't work.

'Hey! There's a junction there- Let's split up! You go left, I'll go straight!' Conor shouted. Alyssa nodded and ran. She was getting exhausted now. She was never keen on sports and therefore her stamina was miserable.

At the junction between the two buildings, Alyssa turned swiftly and saw cars parked closely together in the alley. She squeezed herself between two cars and tried to hide as best as possible. Trying not to make a sound, she stayed there in the cramped place.

Minutes went past. Just Alyssa was about to stand up and see if everything was fine, the wolf came into the alley. Alyssa almost let out a yelp but managed to silence herself. She peeked under the cars and could see the great legs of the beast.

The wolf kept coming closer to her. Alyssa prepared herself for the worst as she knew she could never outrun the wolf. She was too tired for that. The beast was only a few meters away from her now.

Just as she expected the wolf to show up and bite her, Alyssa heard a thump and then the head of the wolf fell in front of her. Blood came squirting out and she yelled in shock. She stood up swiftly and saw Conor standing, wielding a big axe in his hands.
