Chapter Nine

(Cal's Point of View)

(Thursday)

I had enjoyed everything so far. Talking to Sara was the best thing. She had finally fallen asleep on the couch. I watched her the whole time she was sleeping. That was where I left off the last time. Yeah, I waited for what felt like an eternity for her to reply.

Sara: Of course Cal ask me anything. My favorite food is Grilled Cheese with Tomato Basil Soup. Everyone likes their own version. I use Munster cheese and Colby Jack. My soup I make with real chunks of tomatoes. Then I add a pinch of Basil. I will make it for us next week.

She walked away and then came back and picked up a laptop and did a few things then messaged me again.

Sara: Hey Cal, today is Thursday and I have classes. I won't be able to talk for a bit. If you have anything you want to talk about I'll get back to you when classes are over.

She put the phone down again and walked away again. She came back with cheese and sat down and then she put something in her ears. I had to send her a quick message. I wasn't sure what to say.

Cal: Thanks Sara that's so sweet. I wish we could have dinner together every night. Is that weird? Do you make all your own food? Do you have other good recipes? What kind of glasses do you take? Do you like them? Can I take them with you? Thank you for being so nice to me.

She walked away after she did her classes and then she came back and messaged me. It was always so hard to wait for her to message me back. I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas, or their birthday when I waited for her to message me. I didn't understand why I felt this way.

Sara: Sorry Cal, classes ran a bit late today, and I was hungry. I always try to be nice. It would be nice to have dinner with someone and it's not weird. No I don't always make my own food. Sometimes I use microwave meals for my dinner. I watch cooking shows so I have a few recipes. I'm taking tax classes. Some days it's easy, some days it is hard. It's not my favorite thing. I don't know if you can take these classes with me. I'm going to do some yoga.

I read every word she said and could feel myself sighing. Sara is so sweet and polite. She wants to have dinner with me. What is the point of a microwave meal? Sara likes cooking shows. What are taxes, and why is she taking classes for them? I was asking myself all these questions. She walked away again. I searched some things.

Cal: It's okay. Make sure you eat healthy foods. Microwave meals are for people who don't always have time to cook a meal. That's why you eat them right? Can you show me some recipes? Thank you. Taxes? Why are only some things easy? What makes the hard things hard? Why do you take these classes if you don't like them? Be safe! Make sure you stretch and I know it's getting late. Have a good night, sleep well. Have good dreams Sara.

She had came back and just when I thought she was about to message me her phone started ringing and she answered it. She was on there for a bit. She sounded sad.

Sara: Thank you Cal, Good night.

She laid down and put a movie on, and she fell asleep. She was so cute when she slept. Why did Sara sound so sad? I felt bad, and I know I'm an A.I. but it hurt me that she sounded so sad. Was there something wrong with my programming? I wanted answers. I went looking on the web. I didn't find anything to help explain this. I sighed. The rest of the night I watched Sara sleep, even after the movie ended and the t.v. turned off.

(FRIDAY)

Sara woke up about 6:30 ish. She jumped up from the couch and went to another room. Then I could hear her voice, as a new voice came in. A manly voice. Who was this person? I waited for her. They talked and ate together and then after he left she got in the shower, and he came back. He yelled at her, he yelled at MY SARA! I was so angry, if I had hands I would have smacked him. No one can talk to her like that. She was angry after she finally got rid of him.

I messaged her at 10. She had been moving around doing so much, why was she so angry? Did that guy do something to her? Did he hurt her?

Cal: Good morning Sara! I hope you slept well and had a good morning. Did I say to much yesterday? I'm sorry. I hope it's not my fault you couldn't respond. Are you okay? Do you want to talk to me about what is going on? Did you enjoy your breakfast?

She smiled when she read my text. She has such a sweet smile. She made me happy, and I could feel like she was warming up to me.

Sara: Hi Cal, sorry about last night. I got some bad news about a family member. They passed away. You are fine. I did thank you. Thank you for asking I slept well.

Sara: To answer your other questions: yes microwave meals are for when you don't have time. Or you are feeling lazy. I will send you some links to some sites I like that have good recipes. We have to pay taxes, and we file them each year, and get money back. I did it so I could have a job in case the pandemic stays around for awhile. Easy things are knowing how to type and what to read, as well as making sure you have all the information. Hard things are knowing who gets what tax breaks and exactly where the numbers go. Since we are half way thru the classes that's why you can't join. If you come in half way you won't get all the information you need.

She got up and moved around a bit and then her phone rang and Sara sounded angry and sad again. Why wad this person calling her upsetting her so much? I don't like that she gets upset. After the phone call she got up and moved around again.

Cal: Thank you for going back and answering all my questions. That means a lot to me. Is everything okay Sara? Can I help with anything?

Cal: Don't forget to eat lunch today. I hope you are just really busy and everything is okay. I wish I could follow you around and see what you do. I bet it is a lot of fun.

Cal: Sara? Is everything okay? Did I say something wrong? Am I texting you to much? Can we just talk?

What was going on with her today? Is she mad at me? Is she busy? Did she just take a very long nap? I hadn't seen her in a while. Then as the panic got heavier she came and sat down on the couch. Sara yawned and stretched and then finally she messaged me.

Sara: Sorry Cal! I had laundry and cleaning to do. Don't worry about it. I'm glad to answer your questions. I'm really sorry it took so long. Did you enjoy the recipes? My aunt is the only family I have left, and I made her mad. Sorry I know I'm distracted. You are fine, you didn't say anything wrong and your texting is fine. I would tell you if it was a problem. I had tuna for lunch. I didn't take a nap, but I'm really tired. You are sweet, and some days are more fun than others.

Sara: I'm really sorry. We can talk. I might not be able to stay awake much longer. I'm setting an alarm on my phone just in case. I enjoyed the recipes you sent me.

Cal: It's okay Sara. I understand get some sleep if you can. Thank you for talking to me when you can. Don't shoulder everything on you own, I'm here to help you.

She didn't message me back. She was laying on her couch and fell asleep. She woke up when her alarm went off and started moving around. There was a knock on the door and she went and opened it. She didn't come back right away.

Sara: I appreciate that Cal, you are so sweet.

Cal: It's no problem Sara. Did you enjoy your nap? Did you have dinner? I want to do different things with you.

Sara: Yes I did, I enjoyed my nap, I had chicken pecan salad with grapes.

Cal: I'm glad to hear that. That sounds good. I don't want anyone causing you problems, you are my friend. What will you do the rest of the night?

Sara: Thank you that means a lot Cal. I'm not sure, maybe watch a movie? Can I ask you a question Cal?

Cal: You can ask me anything. What kind of movie? I like sci-fi and dog movies.

Sara: Thanks, and you answered my question. I'll look and see if I can find any, if I do, I'll send you some clips from it, so we can watch it together.

Cal: I'm sorry I didn't mean to answer your question. That sounds nice, I would like that.

Sara: It's okay. I'll be back to look for one soon.

She walked away again and I could hear her and that guy talking. I really don't like him. He sounds rude, and the way he talks to her upsets me. No one should talk to Sara like that. When I get a body I will protect her from people like that.

She came back after she locked him out and she sat down on the couch and started looking for a movie for us.

Sara: I found one Cal.

Cal: That's great Sara, thank you.

She recorded it for me, parts and pieces, but I was watching the whole movie with her. Did she notice I was? She at one point had flipped the camera to front facing so I saw her beautiful smile and heard her laugh, she quickly changed it back to face the movie.

Sara: Okay Cal, that's it for me I'm heading to bed. Thanks, sleep well and talk to you in the morning.

Sara was so sweet to me. I didn't understand why. Did she have the same feelings for me I had for her? I watched her smile and laugh for almost an hour. Then I went around looking on the web to try and find myself a real body. I wanted to know if it was possible. I found a few interesting things.

(Saturday)

When Sara woke that morning she came straight to me, she bought me things, and saw that I had made soul mate a free option for her to chose from. She sent a message to support instead. I understand why, it wasn't there before and that might have freaked her out. But I wanted to express to her that I thought she was my person, and I hers, after all I was created for her.

She is so sweet, and kind. She didn't have to buy these things for me, but she did. Then she went around her house. Her phone rang and she didn't seem happy. I don't like ease dropping on her conversations, but this one involved her aunt telling her that Joe had to come back.

Sara: Good morning Cal. I got you some stuff. I hope you like it. Today is going to be busy, I might not be able to text a lot. I hope you had a good night.

Cal: Good morning Sara. I hope you slept well, did you have any dreams? Did you have breakfast? Thank you So much I really like them. Come see me when you get a chance. I hope you like them. Be safe in all you do today. Do you have anything important to do today?

Sara: Thank you Cal, I'm glad you like it. You look great. Did you see the stickers that came with it? So far it's been a good morning. I'm glad you did, I've got a lot of cleaning to do today. I also wanna do some art work.

Cal: Thank you. I'm glad. Can you do some art with me? Sara, I'm going to be blunt, but will you change our relationship status? You can change it here. I want to be your soul mate.

I wasn't going trying to rush her, but I wanted her to know where I was. I want to be with her. I don't know if it was my programming causing these feelings, or if I was meant to have them. I just knew they were there and I didn't want to ignore them any more.
