Lines of Devotion (Part Four)
Cassie/
After we left the teddy shop we headed off to the bookstore next, a haven for Joy. It's a beautiful smile she has when she first steps inside which I love seeing the most. If I had to guess I would say this place is peaceful to her and lacks judgement so she grew attached to such places. Like any kid in a store, they zoom around sightseeing as quickly as possible and Joy was never different. I had to walk faster to keep up until I take her hand to center her back on earth.
Cassie; " You are zooming again Joy."
Joy; " Was not, just walking normally. Besides if I was zooming you wouldn't be able to keep up, I was once a track star you know."
Cassie; " Of course I know you often remind me when you chase after me. But still, we are taking our time here so you don't have to go so fast."
Joy; " So our first project we can do together we should probably get those first before shopping."
I honestly believe Joy enjoys taking the lead because every time I take her hand she never let's go. Our project was our first one we could do together for our Online schooling. I am happy that we both are excited about this, unfortunately, I won't be able to help till after tomorrow. Once we secured the project books we needed she lead me to her favorite section of books, Fantasy.
Cassie; " So what book will it be today."
Joy; " If I told you it was the same one as usual would that be okay."
Cassie; " Of course but we could just buy the book instead you know."
Joy; " That's okay it's better this way, come on we have a movie to find tonight."
Every time we come here she rents the same book but never buys it. She reads it late into the night and I hear her crying some days, The princess That Forgot. A story about a Princess who had amnesia after a riding accident and Her guard who was blamed. I read some of the stories when she was asleep and I understand more about the reasons why. This story is a love triangle and it just so happens one man comes from the side of evil. While the guard comes from the side of good and Joy sees herself as the evil man. That when I get cured she won't be needed anymore by me and that I will find my own knight of good. I wish I could alleviate her fears but if I don't survive I know false hope can hurt more.
Joy; " Hey we are starting the movie, you okay?"
Cassie; " Oh yeah sorry I was thinking."
Joy; " You been zoned out ever since we left the bookstore wanna talk about it.?"
Cassie; " It's okay let's watch the movie we picked."
If I hold on tighter would that be enough or am I just prolonging the inevitable. My father would know what to do and I am so scared right now. Later on that night I finally took the phone we bought at the Fairgrounds, it was our connection always. I never let it get turned off but maybe he did.
Dan; " God Cassie?"
Cassie; " Hey Daddy....Sorry about the call but I am okay. It took so long to call you but I wanted to make sure I was okay. I didn't wanna trouble you and mom anymore."
Dan; " No that doesn't matter right now. Are you okay?"
Cassie; " Yeah tomorrow I'm going in to get a check-up and see if the medication worked. I'll be better soon, I'm sorry for running away."
Dan; " It's okay. you are okay that's what matters, where are you at can you tell me."
Cassie; " I want to but I wanna get better first. But I called because I needed your courage again."
Dan; " I'm here just like at the carnival when you got lost and scared I'm right here."
I talked to him late into the night but when I awoke I found myself in my bed again. Joy must have carried me to bed after I passed out on the phone. My Dad didn't sound angry maybe Joy was right but I can take today on and see what my future holds for me.
