The me I believed was true

On the way to our cells we were watched by everyone inside the castle at the time. Looks full of contempt, betrayal, and confusion were the norm throughout our tour. The red-haired Archduchess chuckled as she watched with satisfaction as her suspicions had been confirmed. The rest of the archdukes decided to remain silent, although it was obvious from their expressions that they were not indifferent to this march of shame.

Amazingly, the heroes refused with tooth and nail to accept that I was the assassin that the kingdom was seeking, apparently, they were convinced that it was all part of a conspiracy to get rid of me.

I couldn't help but smile a little at the thought process their brains had developed to fend off this uncomfortable reality.
