Chapter 2: Gabriel Liam Kessara

I’m Gabriel Liam Kessara, half Thai and half Filipino, my father is from Thailand and my mother is Filipina. My mother was an English teacher in Thailand, and one of her students is my father, who's taking up a masters degree that time; let’s just say love at first sight. When they got married my father decided to settle down here in the Philippines. 7years of marriage, but they never receive any sign that they will have a child. But miracles happen on their 8th anniversary when they receive the greatest gift that they could ever have, my mother announced that she is pregnant. That baby miracle was me, I grew up with all the love and attention. My father is the sweetest husband and father, he would provide us everything we need. I witnessed how their love continuously grew each day. I hope one day I could find love like them. Now, like my mother I’m also taking the same course as her. Maybe one day I could find the love of my life like my mother, just kidding, that’s not the real reason why I choose to be a teacher but still halfly yes, well it’s not bad to dream right? Well any way, I choose this because I could see that I also love to teach. I’m already in my second year in college, two more years left before I could graduate.

“Gabriel!”

“Hey, Gabriel! Yoohoo! Earth to Gabriel, Gabriel to earth hello?” Han called me.

“H-huh?”

Han Geol is my best friend, yes he is Korean but half only, his english name is Austin but it’s too long so I just called him Han. He’s father owns a company in South Korea, but her mother chose to raise him here in the Philippines. That's why he only could see and be with his father once every 3 months or depending on the availability.

“I said, did you already finish your lesson plan? What’s happening to you? Any problem?” Han asked me.

“Aah about the lesson plan? Yeah, almost done I’m already on the evaluation part. About earlier, sorry, but don’t worry it’s nothing just thinking on what I should do in evaluation.” I said to him.

“Are you sure?” Han asked me again.

“Yeah I’m sure. I’m okay” I assured him

He just sighed and continued writing.

I go back on reading, that seems to be forgotten earlier.

“What’s up everybody! Good morning to both of you, my dearest best friends!” Jay suddenly appeared, getting all the attention of other students inside this library.

Damn! What a noisy brat!

Both me and Han lowered our heads because of embarrassment

Someone please remind me that he is best friend or I’ll put this tape in front of me to his mouth.

“Let me remind you, this is a library not a broadcasting center. Keep your mouth shut or else you’ll never get any sign on your clearance. This will be your first warning, understood?” the librarian said to Jay.

“Sorry Madam, and yes I understand” Jay said politely. Then he sat beside me.

“What the heck did you just do Jay?” Han glared at him

“Sorry guys, I told you I don’t want to be here in the library, it’s too boring, it’s so quiet” Jay said, pouting his lips.

“Damn dude! You look like a duck! And no, we will stay here, remember only 2 more days left before the demo teaching, we need to focus. Especially you Jay, you are still in your objectives, Like what we promised we will help you, but please help yourself also” I said to him.

“Ouch! I’m not a duck!”Jay retorted.

“What ever, come one take out your draft, and let’s work on that” I said to him.

Jay is a pure Filipino, their family has also a status in the society. The problem with Jay is he is always getting out of focus.

When the clock struck at 11:30 we went out of the library and went to the school cafeteria.

“Guys I have something to tell you” Han said.

“What is it?” Jay asked him.

“This semester break, I’’ be taking my vacation in South Korea” Han said.

“And how does it concern us?” I asked him.

“Too smart Gabriel, you read my mind” he chuckles.

“Of course, best friends right?” I said to him.

“Yeah right! So I was planning to bring the two of you with me” Han said.

Say what!?

“Eeemmmm” Jay almost choked.

“Jay what the heck! Slow down! Are you okay?” Han said worriedly.

I handed Jay a glass of water.

“Don’t worry I’m okay, I was just shocked. Do you know it’s my dream to go there?” he said excitedly.

“How could we not know about it if it is always talked about” Han teased him

“Are you sure Han? But how about your parents?” Jay asked him.

“Actually I already talked to them about this, and they said I can bring the two of you and don’t worry it’s my treat” he explained.

“Gabriel I hope this time this time, you could go with us” Han said full of hope.

I took a deep breath.

Yea I could do whatever I want but still has a lot of limitations.

Sometimes even to a party in school I couldn’t attend, how much more if I will go out of the country?

“I’ll try to talk to my parents Han,” I said sadly to him.

“If you need a back, just call us okay?” Jay said to me.

I just nodded to them

After lunch we went to our classroom as we have 3 subjects this afternoon.

Time passes by so fast, as the bell rang I looked at my wrist watch it’s already 4:30.

I packed my things, Jay and Han came to me.

“Let’s go.” Han said.

I nodded to him.

We walked together going to the parking lot.

“So guys let me know your decision as soon as possible, okay? And Gabriel don’t hesitate to call us if you need back up” Han said, reminding us.

“Yes, I will. Well then I’ll go, see you tomorrow” I said to them.

I got inside the car. I took a deep breath.

I should start a plan on how to talk to my parents.

With that thought, I drove off.
