Chapter 13

While Inspector Schultz decided to sleep in on April 1, Adil Abu Bakr sat on his villa’s balcony in Sousse, facing the Mediterranean. A gigantic umbrella protected him from the nonexistent sunlight. It was a warm, humid, and overcast day. He was still in his white robe while he sipped from a refreshing drink. The two boys that he slept with limped to the shower stalls to recuperate from last night’s torment. After their shower, they had breakfast, and then they went to the pool in Adil’s back yard to rest. Adil looked through his binoculars, checking the beach ahead of him, covered with sun-starved Europeans, waiting for the sun to break through the cloud layer. Four of his bodyguards walked up and down the balcony, keeping a sharp outlook, watching who might be approaching the villa. He called one of them over, “I need you to replace the two boys for tonight.”

“Yes, Master. I will get them from our desert complex.”

“Don’t you have them at the compound?”
