Chapter 21

Adil Abu Bakr returned from his yearly camel race. This year, he came in second, and he didn’t like it. To him, that means that he must take instant action. He immediately replaced the camel trainer. It is his job to pick the best camel boy. If Adil’s camel wins, the camel trainer receives a marginal pay increase. If he loses, he gets nothing, and neither does the camel boy. Adil may demote him to be a camel herder in the desert. To prove his point, the day after the race, Adil got rid of the camel boy who lost his race. No one knows what happened to him. But, because he has over thirty-five camel boys, no one seems to care. He can replace them with the snap of a finger.
