Chapter 31

Regina rose before dawn. She rinsed off in the shower and donned shorts, a blouse, and remained barefooted. She never wore a bra because most of the time, it was too hot. A police siren prompted her to rush to the living room window. Cops chased a motorcycle rider. Regina frowned another motorcyclist speeding. Then she heard a crash and a scream, followed by the sound of loose metal falling on the concrete street, and she thought poor bastard. Regina went to the kitchen and brewed a pot of delicious Columbian coffee. Then she made scrambled eggs and bacon for the Americans. Stan was still in bed, resting, cold sweat running down his chest. He smelled breakfast, and he couldn’t resist it. Then the detective jumped in the shower and used cold water to rinse his body. A few minutes later, he went downstairs to the kitchen, wearing jeans, a tee-shirt, and loafers, “Good morning, Regina. How are you today?”

“I’m fine. I have breakfast ready, Stan. Sit at the table.”
