FOUR DAYS LATER
The door to the aseptic chamber was opened and Nathaniel Duval was taken to a fully furnished room in the medical wing.
Henri informed the family that although further test needed to be carried out, the treatment went well and they had to wait to see if he would wake up.
His father thanked her for her help.
Just then,Tessa showed up with a stretcher and Henri managed to sit on it before she collapsed and was immediately rushed to another room where Lorenzo and Tessa worked together to rid her system of the toxins she was exposed to in
the aseptic chamber.
When Henri opened her eyes six hours later, she found her father sitting by her side looking very worried and tired.
Papa! Henri greeted him softly.
Hi baby her father said smiling warmly. Are you feeling okay he asked.
Yes she replied. I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me.
As they were talking, her sister Tessa walked in to check in on her.
Hey Dad Tessa greeted. You scared the life out of me Sis! I'm glad to see you awake she said. How are you feeling?
I'm okay Henri replied. Don't worry.
Are her test results out yet their father asked.
Yes Tessa replied. I already checked them. There's nothing to worry about. She's going to be just fine.
I told you. I'm fine. Henri said to her father. You have nothing to worry about Papa. You too Sis.
We should let her rest some more Papa, Tessa addressed their father.
I'll see you later sis.
Don't worry,Henri replied. I'm not going anywhere.
TWO HOURS LATER....
Tessa and Lorenzo approached Gregory and Luisa Suarez to give them an update concerning the patient's wellbeing.
Mr Suarez Tessa began. I have some news. The test results are out. It appears the treatment was successful. He's still unconscious so we will just have to wait and see how his system handles the rest she said.
It may not seem like it Lorenzo said. But this is very good news. Doctor Moreau did an amazing job. I have faith that Matteo will wake up. I need you to believe it too.
Of course Gregory replied. Thank you very much Dr. Chandler.
Where is Dr. Moreau Luisa asked. I would love to see her and offer my thanks.
She's resting Lorenzo answered. Her body is tasked from exposure in the aseptic chamber.
Will she be alright Gregory asked Lorenzo.
She will be just fine Dad. Don't worry Lorenzo replied.
Can i see her Luisa asked.
Of course Tessa replied. Come with me.
The two women walked towards the room and on getting there, they found Henri sitting up in bed.
I'll let you two talk..Tessa said and walked away.
Hi, Henri greeted the woman.
Dr. Moreau, Luisa returned. Are you okay she asked.
Yes,I'm fine Henri replied.
Thank you for helping my brother, Luisa said.
You don't have to thank me Henri replied. I was just doing my job.
Lorenzo told me of the risks you took to save Matteo, Luisa began. I can't thank you enough. I'm really grateful.
It really was no trouble but I will accept your gratitude Henri said sincerely.
Just then,Tessa ducked her head into the room and addressed Henri.
Look who I found Tessa said.
Henri glanced behind her sister and smiled brightly when she saw who was standing behind Tessa.
Hey stranger, Auguste greeted her with a smile.
Hey you Henri replied.
I'm going to go check on my Dad Luisa said. I'll see you around Doc.
Bye Luisa..Henri replied. Thank you for thinking of me.
Auguste walked towards Henri and gave her a big hug.
I was really worried about you mi amor auguste whispered in her ear.
I know! I'm so sorry baby henri replied.
Are you sure you are okay,he asked. You are not hurt? Are you really okay?
I'm fine she answered giggling. I'm not hurt okay? I'm really really okay she assured him.
Cradling his face in her hands, she looked him over, her eyes cataloging every detail.
You look exhausted she said. Were you able to get any sleep she asked .
You know I can't sleep when I'm worried about you he simply stated.
Honey! She chided sighing. You can't keep doing this every time I do something slightly dangerous she said.
Slightly dangerous? He scoffed. You could have died. Your system was overly taxed. That much toxins could have caused some of your major organs to fail he said rambling.
You are right she said in an attempt to calm him down. It was very dangerous and I took a really huge risk doing what I did and I should have talked to you about it. I shouldn't have made you worry or make Dad be the one to tell you. But that's not the point I'm trying to make. You need your sleep. You've been through a lot this past two weeks, not eating, not sleeping and on top of that,I made you travel over six thousand miles for me. And I know you don't sleep well when we are away from each other and not knowing how the other is faring. I don't want you putting yourself in danger because of me. I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to you because of me.
Hey,look at me he said. I'm fine okay? Nothing's going to happen to me. Besides,I understand that time was of the essence. There's no way you would've been able to talk to me before doing what you had to.
I understand. I've got your back. Always...
I know! Thank you she said smiling up at him.
Would you like to cuddle she asked him.
Have you met me he teased. I live for cuddling. I was born to cuddle with you he said grinning widely.
What..he asked, noticing how she was staring at him.
Nothing. I just missed you she said truthfully.
I missed you too he said looking at her with pure love and adoration.
Come here she said, making room for him on the bed.
He laid beside her on the bed and intertwined their fingers together and rested it on his chest.
He sighed and closed his eyes, letting the serenity of the moment overtake his senses and emotions and drifted off to sleep.
Tessa left her office to check on the patient before checking in on her sister.
On getting to the room, she checked his vital signs and observed the monitor of the various machines he was attached to.
She also adjusted the IV line and seemingly satisfied with her observations, she left his room and headed for her sister's.
She stood frozen on the doorway of her sister's room,a sweet smile on her face as she saw her sister watching her husband sleep, a look of love and utter devotion clearly written on her face.
Determined not to interrupt, she soundlessly walked away thinking that maybe miracles do happen after all....
