The Broken Phoenix

Life shouldn't have been that harsh with them.

Whatever they had been told had to be a joke because how the hell would they explain the sudden changes? Maybe what the naan meant was that Rhian's curse would take effect and that they would die. That was a way better explanation than being told they would transform into werewolves.

They were literally being told they would be animals in a few hours, and it looked like they were all serious because their nana had run away. Maybe she was really getting old and tried and no one would blame her, after all, it was almost midnight and the old woman was always asleep after the 8 pm prayers.

Angelo and Rhian were left in the matron's office, confused about what had been happening and angry that instead of answers they only got more questions. There had to be some explanation, but since they were not going to get any, it was useless staying here.

They had no reason to be in this darned place.

If they were going to die, then at least they would die happy.

Rhian was the first to make her exit, unable to stand the silence in the room anymore. She would be happier outside, stealing, helping people doing whatever with the two hours she had left. Maybe if she would be dying then she would be a good person.

One last time because she really didn't feel like listening to a bunch f old men telling them they were the gods of a race that hadn't been seen in centuries. Their sudden appearance was just convenient. But it was convenient for someone who believed in that.

This duo clearly didn't believe that.

Angelo was just as confused as Rhian but he knew the old matron. He knew she wouldn't just leave them there with a shoddy explanation. She wouldn't just tell them this when it wasn't important.

He had known the nana to be a caring woman and one who would never put anyone's life at risk. He had known that more than anything, their nana loved them all. Sure they may have been stubborn little freaks but she had taken care of them like a mother would her children.

Coupled with what he had been experiencing lately, he almost agreed with the nana. The keyword being almost. He would stay and know more about their predicament. He would stay and find out for himself if this was a lie or it was the truth.

He had come here for answers and he was not going to leave without them.

If the world had known him to be hot-headed and scary, then they hadn't met Rhian daniels or as the matron had called her, Hera.

The woman was hot in all aspects. She did things without a care. She didn't want to be tied down to something that was fictional. She had read books, a lot of books, well that was during her spare time and when she was scouting her next souvenir target.

She had read about werewolves, but she had read about them in books that looked older than her great grandmother if at all she was not a test tube baby. She was not going to sit and be told that she would be transforming every full moon and all that shit.

As it was, she didn't even have a decent home despite the good thief. How was she supposed to sustain herself as a werewolf?

The idea itself was even ludicrous. Her, a werewolf? That was literally insane. She knew they could curse her forever, but what if her curse was for her to be a werewolf? She was never going to accept that.

She was never going to be the girl that stayed with a group of animals that walked among the humans. She was not going to accept that she would be an animal too. They could kill her if they wanted to, after all, that was a much better punishment than being a poor dog.

Werewolf or not, she was not going to become the one thing that had taken her family from her. Her memories were still plagued by the incident that took her normal life away. The one that saw her admitted to an orphanage that hated her to the point of cursing her.

She was not going to sit and wait for them to force her into transformation. Two hours was a lot. She could do a lot in two hours. First, she was going to go back to her van, get pretty one last time, and gate crash into a party, not literally though.

It was enough that a guard was still asleep because of her scare.

She was going to have the fun of her life and later on she would leave this place. She would relocate and if it helped, she would move to a far country. One in which no one would find her. And if she was cursed to stay in the country, then she would live a totally different life.

Maybe she would volunteer somewhere, considering the idea of collecting souvenirs pissed her off now. Before she would leave, she knew she had one task. She would go to carl and give him the watch, or better yet, she would take it to that restaurant Carl always went to and she would give it to the attendants.

She was sure if she did that, carl would get the watch, and maybe the waitress who had been thirsting over him would get a chance to tell him how she felt. She would fix the world before she died. All she could hope for was that she was going to be able to do all that in two hours.

In two hours she would either be dead or alive and miserable, though she preferred dead over alive and miserable. There was just no way she was going to accept the curse on her. If it didn't kill her, then she would do that to herself.

She would ruin herself just to make sure it all came to pass. After all, from what she had seen n the previous days, she healed pretty fast.

She was like a phoenix, though she knew she was a broken phoenix.
