Taking some time off the books

Peter stood up from the bed and began to walk towards the window to confirm the authenticity of Jake’s words.” That was fast Jake. One day you will hurt yourself climbing down so fast from your bedroom window to the ground seven or eight meters below.”

“I didn’t use the window. I came out through the front door,” Jack said mildly.

“Wow! That’s cool,” Peter said as he moved the curtain on the window to see whether Jake was truly outside his house next door and smiled, “Did you use any particular stealth techniques or you just went out as a free bird. If you used the first option, you need to teach me those stealth techniques so that I can put them to good use.”

Jake laughed slowly. “No stealth dude. I just went out in the most normal way possible. The stealthy method is one you make use of which involves you using the window to go downstairs in the quietest way possible although it doesn’t always work out.”

“Yep! I am guilty there,” Peter said and poised as he waved his hand in the direction of Jake who was walking from the front porch of his house towards the side. Jake responded by just raising his right hand. “I only do that when getting out of the house past my leaving the house time which is 9:00pm. So get ready for some amazing stealth bro.”

“Cool dude, let’s see those commando moves of yours. I just hope I don’t see you break your legs,” Jake said teasingly.

“Yeah. The awesomeness of my stealth will blind you. Bye, am coming down now,” Peter said as he gestured to Jake.

Jake laughed mildly. “How is your stealth going to blind me if I am not able to see you? See you when you get down.”

Peter laughed continually and hang up. He then moved from the window and headed towards the bed to get his flip flops underneath. He quickly wore the flip flops and sniffed his arm pits just to make sure they were not giving out that unusual smell common to teens. He straightened his t-shirt and short. Peter went to the window and upon reaching it he opened it slowly so as not to make any noise that would attract his parents and snooping sister’s attention. He passed through the window legs first and then the rest of his body slowly to prevent him from falling off the small wooden edge that he had stepped on that surrounded the whole house fifty centimeters below every window up stairs. He moved slowly sideways from his right to left with every step he took making the cracking sound on the wooden edge. He walked standing straight with his body close to the wall of the house and not bending even slightly so as not to allow gravity to pull his body weight. He moved slowly towards the roof of the front porch. When he was right above it he climbed down on it with calm and then he jumped on the lawn on the ground which was a manageable jump. Peter immediately headed to Jake on his left across the road.

“Why is it so easy for you to leave your house and not me?” Peter asked Jake as he grabbed his stretched out hand.

Jake held his hand tight and smiled. “Different parents, different rules.”

Peter shock his had gently up and down as he displayed a smile. “Then your parents are way cooler than mine.”

Jake shock his head covered in a black head sock with his blond hair protruding underneath it behind his ears and on his forehead. He then gave off a brighter smile than the first one as he gazed in his friends eyes. “And you wish they were yours?’

Both boys laughed mildly as they stood along the slightly lit side walk.

Peter looked around and took a deep breath as he set his eyes on his friend. “It looks so peaceful, you wouldn’t think of how noisy it is during the day.”

“Yeah, it’s a hub of noise during the day,” Jake replied as he stared at the ground he was stepping on.

Quietness then occupied the area they were stationed as none of them said anything for a few seconds and the wind took over the scene as it blow passing them slowly. Peter looked around and then at his friend on his right and took a deep breath. He at that point beheld his friend straight in the eyes and smiled. “So what shall we be doing in the next twenty five minutes, Jake?

Jake moved his eyeballs to the left then to the right and finally to the ground as he scratched the hair under his head soak. Staring him in the eyes always made him uncomfortable. “Well….we can….we can start by talking about girls.”

Peter smiled looking at his feet as if searching for a faults on them.” Girls! Such a topic will need more than twenty five minutes. I fear it can take up more than two hours of our time.”

Jake gave a brief laugh. “Dude, it won’t. How are you and Samantha getting along?”

“Well Jake, we are if I must tell you at the same point. I have never actually told her how I feel. How my heart pounds when I see her pass by me and I guess she still sees me as her childhood friend,” Peter said slowly and for a moment he seemed to have drifted in memory. He then gave on and off glances at Jake.

“Last week, if I recall very well you said you were going to tell her about how you really feel. What went wrong?” Jake asked and waited anxiously for the answer.

“The science project is what went wrong bro and honestly I have never had a chance to talk to her one on one after class. She’s always busy with her project partner discussing their project and I can’t get a single moment with her,” Peter said as he shrugged.

“Are you sure it’s not the nerves? You might actually be scared to tell her how you feel because you are not sure how she would react,” Jake said slowly as he pulled his head soak towards his forehead to hide his hair.
