Arena of Monsters

Once we reached the class, the bell rang and everyone was in their seats, ready for the day to begin, but today didn't seem normal...I looked at our daily schedule and it seemed off...What is monster training? I guess Ms. Shimirashi will explain.

“Hello everyone nya!” She says in a happy mood. We all say our hellos in response.

“So today is a bit different because we will be testing your monster abilities nya!” She jumps, “so head to the locker rooms and change, meet me outside by the arena.”

“Wait we have an arena!?” I ask.

“Yeah, we have monster tournaments with other monster schools,” Miyasaki says.

“Huh,” I say.

I head to the locker rooms and change then head out to the large arena. The arena was large. It looked like the Roman Colosseum but more modern in a way. The battlefield was flat with sand as the floor. Around the area, there are seats around. I then notice Ms. Sullivan up at the big chair in the distance. She gives a slight nod and I nod back.

"Alright train your monster skill until the whistle blows. When it blows, I want Miyasaki and Goro up first," Ms. Shimigami says.

I decided to head towards the punching bag and of course, punch it. In the back, I can hear the other guys laugh at me, but I have to keep my cool and make sure they'll have a surprise of what I have. Soon enough, Ms. Shimigami blows the whistle and we all take a step aside and Miyasaki stands on one side while Goro, a monkey-like monster stands on the other side.

"Alright, I want a good clean fight, until one is knocked, the other that stands win," she says, blowing the whistle again.

Goro goes for a full charge while Miyasaki charges her electric shock. A bunch of blue sparks flies out of her and an arc moves from her ears to her hands. When Goro went closer, Miyasaki shot out a large beam of electricity, pushing Goro to the wall, knocking him out cold. Two of his friends grabbed him and headed towards the bunker area.

Many fights were won and many were lost. One of the better fights was an elf against a centaur. Both of the girls used medieval knight combat which was insane. I thought the centaur had the advantage but the elf was more agile and charged a wind arrow that blew a gust of wind that pushed the centaur to the ground.

"Alright, good fight, next up! Anzai versus Shiba."

"Good luck Anzai!" Miyasaki says.

"I'll need it," I smile at her then enter the arena.

I looked at my opponent and apparently, I'm fighting a girl. I thought it would be the Scorpion from Undead Warriors (You know what I mean). She wears a yellow ninja-like get up with a mask covering her mouth.

"Alright, you know the rules, 3, 2, 1, fight!" Ms. Shinigami says.

Shiba charges at me and I dodge. She then shoots a fireball at me and then I dodge again. As I dodge each attack she gets angrier and angrier.

"What's wrong? Can't defeat a simple human like me?" I say.

"I'll show you I can win!" She says as she uncovers her hood, shooting out a beam of fire at me, but I wasn't fast enough to dodge and I thought I got hit.

I hear sizzling confront of me and I see a metallic looking shield in front of me, It felt like I made it.

"What the?" Shiba says.

I uncover my shield and transform into Instinct and charge towards Shiba. She shoots an abundance of fire and nothing was able to hurt me. I felt invincible. I pulled back my arm and went for a powerful punch that knocked her back, then to the ground, k.o. I then went back to myself and I looked around the crowd, speechless and surprised.

"D-did I win?" I ask.

"Y-yes you did!" Ms. Shinigami says.

After all of the fights, I hear people talking about me as I pass the halls. I soon see Shiba on the stairs about to burst into tears. I then walk to her.

Shiba?" I ask.

"Gah! A-Anzai, what are y-you doing here?" She asks.

"Well I was heading towards the roof to calm myself down until I say you crying here," I say.

"Don't mind that, I'm just a sore loser. By the way, what was that when I fought you?" She says.

"Here, follow me to the roof, I don't want too many people to hear about this," I say.

She nods in response and we reach the roof. I told her all about how I'm actually human and got Instinct during a car crash. But I noticed something odd. What I heard about Scorpion around the school is that she was ruthless, hostile usually towards others. But she seems nice. She was calm and actually kinda cute. Shiba then tells about her life.

"...so then, this one sorcerer resurrected me and with the help of my friends, I came back to normal," she says.

"Wow, but why do people think about how violent you are?" I ask.

"I guess it's because of how intimidating I look. I mean for Outworld's sake I have no pupils and I have a spear I can control how it moves," she says, looking at the sunset.

"I see," I say.

We both look at the sunset and then I feel something grabbing my hand and something leaning against me.

"Hey, I know this is weird but do you have a girlfriend?" Shiba asks.

"No, why?" I ask.

She smiles and hops on top of me and leans in for a kiss until I hear the door open and someone says, "Anzai? Where are you?"
