Awakening

A car stopped in front of the house. The sirens turn off and the blue and red flashes halt to ease. Bella Hemlock from the police department enters the premise. Her stern face is intimidating and cunning. She looks around and saw some drunk youths sleeping from the couch and to the bathroom.

“Jane Manhattan!” She shouted.

Jane shivers hearing her voice. She was about to sneak out in her bed-chamber but a firm gripped stopped her. She looks back and gulped.

“Young lady. In case if you don’t know, there’s a serial killer on the loose and having a party will only provoke the killer, in which, this is a perfect scene for the killer’s next victim.”

Jane just stood there; words won’t come out on her mouth.

“What will you do if someone might die under your roof.”

“Sorry.”

“Just don’t repeat this mistake, again, okay? You know what’ll happen if your parents would know about this.”

Bella taps her shoulder before leaving her speechless. She looked around with authorizing gaze, observing once more before leaving the premise.

“Looks like someone is busted.” Kate jested.

“Not funny, Kate. I’m glad she’s not over-piss. My parents gonna kill me, if they’re gonna know about this.” Jane walks outside and started to clean the mess left behind.

When Kate stands up, she felt dizzy. Her surroundings began to twist. The backdrop changed and darkness crept from everywhere. She lifted her gaze. The darkness engulfing the light embedded back to her retinas.

She violently shakes her head returning to her surroundings from diminishing to reality. Kate turned her attention from right to left inspecting if there’s someone who put her under a spell. She saw no one except the people who are drunk and sleeping.

She shivered and glances through the window as if she’s sees something beyond the woods. She moved out, dashed towards the forest behind the house. The adrenaline pulsating in her veins. A mixed frisson of worries and histrionic frustration pulped her heart and mind. It’s a feeling she never felt before, fear not making it on time to stop the unknown entity strolling in the forest.

Her pulse skipped, and stopped running, she glanced cautiously.

“Van.” She muttered.

There's a monster, a knife, and a man. The hard gasping creates a white puff during the cold night as the light from the full moon makes its way to the masquerading shadow of the man. Blood was dripping from the smeared knife as it falls to the ground.

Is it just her imagination or does she feel that the heat of her skin gradually turns cold? The adrenaline rushing through her veins before is now gone. Her muscles won't move an inch.

She stood in front of him in awe as he turns his direction towards her. His eyes are brooding, a blank expression with his hair plastered down to his eyes making it more intimidating like a void that is going to engulf you. It was until now, a chill strike to her spine, an exaggerated feeling that she never felt before, fear.

Looking back, she has not seen through behind that innocent look of what he truly is. And now, she must do what must be done.

For a moment, Van’s intimidating sharp looked at the fallen enemy change as his mocking gaze altered his attention to Kate. The enemy was the undead that she saw once before.

Kate snapped out and keep her guard steadfast as Van slowly walks towards her. Suddenly, a certain shadow leaped towards Van. Without flinching, Van delivered a round-house kick. The head was crushed and the body lays down; his attack didn’t give the enemy a luxury of time to wail.

The bestial bellowed. Its cry rang throughout the darkness as they – one-by-one they came to attack Van. He effortlessly evaded them. His movements are fluid, each counterstrike was ruthless, it’s either they’re finished by a fatal blow on their heads or by cutting off their head with the sheer strength of his hands.

He didn’t stop, they didn’t stop assaulting each other. The mindless puppets had circled him. They were indifferent to each other, especially that man. His eyes are filled with lust for the battle, drunk for more entertainment by blood bath.

Something snapped out of him, he’s not himself, she does not know what really happened, but she is sure of it.

Van never felt such overwhelming weighing feeling, his mind is numbed, he can’t see beyond the reason of his doing.

He did not care about the fireball approaching steadfast to him, but that grandiose approach was put to halt as he was thrown back.

He stood, eyes were flaring and his visage did not waver.

A war cry reverberates as he charged forward against the horde of undead. Outraging as it is, he challenged the odds.

Kate noticed that those undead monsters dragged a dead body of a man of her age. She took the liberty of their divided attention and went behind, trudging against the large chunks of rocks and glide down in the mud. She hid behind the rock and saw a small space between two giant rocks below them had become a pile of dead bodies.

Like Gilt description, the lifeless body began to emit light on their eyes and to their gaping mouth just as the devilish winged monster breathe to them. It’s something she didn’t expect to be possible – that the monster can become a giver of life to the dead. It’s loathsome to think that someone would ever do this to gain their desires as to not spare the dead who is resting in peace.

The decease – rose and stare up to the one who revived them. The devilish monster growled and the undead went gone to the darkness. Its wings spread wide as it ventured up to the sky.

Van lifted his gaze just as the undead monsters are drawn back to the darkness and saw the giant devilish monster landed in front of him. Its flapping wings pushed the dust out of his range and glowered to Van. His composure remained untethered and started to pose.

Van didn’t expect it. The monster kicked the ground and grabbed him hard by its hand. Van could feel his bones crushing and trembling.

Climbing from below, Kate quickly chanted a spell.

“Graviga Pulsatio.”

The monster let go of Van as if there’s something pushed him backward and momentarily stammered. Van who seems didn’t feel any of it, quickly get up and charges to it.

“Van! No!” Kate shouted.

Van punches continuously at his stomach. He kicks the face and went whirled, landing flawlessly. The monster’s sharp claws tried rip Van, but he just evaded it by side rolling. He stood firm and flipped forward dodging the attacks.

The monster grew angry and cried – calling out for reinforcement. The undead flooded towards them. Kate looked to her left and right and then to her back – examining for any alternatives for them to escape. Unfortunately, there is none. The monsters had already encircled them.

She tried to tap Van, but he violently retaliates by aiming to twist her wrist. She punched him and staggered.

“What’s wrong with you?!” She yelled.

Van once again fortified his ground and bashed the oncoming enemy with his fist. Even Kate doesn’t want to do it, she was given no choice.

“Sleepia Porosis.”

Van glowered to her. He quickly grabs her neck. Kate was caught on surprise and repeatedly cast the spell. Van’s eyes slowly drift to closed and stumbled down. Kate catches him and have him rest on her lap.

She muttered, ‘Negas Olfiora’

And with that, they’ve escape only left a trail of smoke.

The monster howl under the moonlight. Its eyes flashes in red as the undead pulled back in the darkness.

Its wings spread afar and flew high into the gloomy sky.
