Devon

Avery looked at Caleb; they'd hardly spoken since their intervention almost a week ago. ‘What’s on your mind Avery I knew we haven’t talked that much, but what’s on your mind.’

‘What about devon?’

‘What about it?’

‘Matt invited us both.’

‘So.’

‘So are you still coming ? Or do I have to make other arrangements.’

‘I’m still coming after all he invited me too, I won’t get in your way so don’t worry your pretty little head about it.’

‘I wasn’t.’

‘Good is that all?’

‘Yes.’

‘Good.’

Heartless jerk.

Avery

Everything was packed into the two suitcases and we were on our way, in awkward silence like it had been for the past week. I was wondering why Matt had invited us down. It must be important.

Caleb pulled up outside the cottage. It was so peaceful put here I wish I could find somewhere like this. Matt greeted us and helped Caleb with the suitcases. ‘Gee are you staying for three days or a month! He joked smiling.’

‘Most if it’s mine.’

‘Thought so. Come on I’ll show you both to your room.’

‘Our?’

‘Yes not a problem is it?’

‘No of course not.’ I swallowed we’d ace to make sleeping arrangements, no way I sleeping with him with his attitude right now.

We made our way in and Shawna greeted us both with a hug.

‘Come on let’s get you settled.’

I nodded and we followed Matt up the tiny staircase to a beautiful room with a king size bed. ‘Sorry about putting you together but the other room is under construction right now.’

‘It’s okay.’

‘I’ll leave you to get settled hes we can eat.’

I nodded, Matt smiled and took off leaving me and Caleb alone. ‘I’m sorry I thought we’d have our own rooms are you okay with this?’

‘I guess I’ll have to be. It’s only for a few nights.’

‘Stop being a jerk Caleb.’

‘Look who’s talking. Let me make this clear Avery I only came here cause I was invited too or I wouldn’t have. We’ve just got to make the most of it. So you stay on your side or the bed and I’ll stay in mine and we’ll he’ll fine.’

‘Sure whatever.’

We put our stuff away heading downstairs to the homely smell of stew. My stomach growled. I haven’t eaten since seven this morning. We made our way to the table. ‘Take a seat while we bring it in.’

Me and Caleb st silently as Matt bought the pot of stew, followed by Shawna with the drinks they both sat down and we all poured the stew into the bowls in front of us. ‘So how is your job going Avery?’

‘Good I’m in London right now taking tours.’

‘Sounds hard.’

‘It means we have four to five tours a day.’

He nodded. ‘So how’s work going caleb?’

‘Rather well, there’s even talk about the company expanding.’

‘Sounds like you're both doing well for yourselves.’

We both nodded. ‘So how’s things here going Matt?’

He took Shawna’s hand and they still looked as much in life as they did the day they got married. ‘That’s why we invited you here Avery we’ve got some news for you.’

‘Really what is it?’

‘Well.’ He looked at Shawna and nodded. ‘You’re going to be an aunty Avery. I’m expecting.’

‘Oh my god congratulations.’ I said hugging and kissing them on the cheek.

‘Congrats.’

‘We’d like to ask you two to be godparents.’

‘Oh my god I’d love to.’

‘I don’t know guys shouldn’t you choose someone close like family.’

‘You are family Caleb you’ve helped Avery so much and I’m grateful for you being with her through all of this you're like a brother to me.’

He nodded.

After we had our dinner we sat in the lounge talking about old times like there was nothing wrong with us, even though there was. I went to bed heavily hearted. I couldn’t lie to my brother and Shawna what was going on with Caleb and that my whole world was falling apart.
