Our Dependent (Short Story)

Simple minded. Never aims to cross the line. Quiet, yet could be so loud the neighbors reach the telephone to dial 911. He...she...what does it matter? The cautious steps usher forward. One wrong move and the collapse commences. Too fragile, too easily damaged. A single word sends the mind into a dangerous spiral. One insult provokes the beast within. Rrrr....hear the monster growl. Listen to it speak. Its language. So deeply terrifying it would scar the mighty.

Unsettled at every point of life. The night owl thrives. The day is so grueling. Wake up, face the music, and nearly implode. Fall apart in a split second. Trembling at the sound of the inner voice. The darkness creates a soundless void, but empties. No filling. Just bare and raw. Explaining is draining. What good is conversating? What good is anything when it means nothing?

Hear the whimper. Death no longer frightens. Attacks with no hands weigh heavier than coal. All seems so fascinating. Too comfortable to not fall prey. Pained, bleeding lungs after hours of wicked wars that no one can see. Lonely. Alone. No sense of the actual reality. The world keeps moving. The people keep speaking. Nature keeps evolving. And still...still here.

Every morning, afternoon, evening, and night opens opportunity. He gives it. Ecclesiastes 7:17, BE NOT OVER MUCH WICKED, NEITHER BE THOU FOOLISH. WHY SHOULDEST THOU DIE BEFORE THY TIME? To end the pain. To conclude the harsh saga. He does not want that. He stops it. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, KNOW YE NOT THAT YE ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD, AND THAT THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELLETH IN YOU? IF ANY MAN DEFILE THE TEMPLE OF GOD, HIM SHALL GOD DESTROY. FOR THE TEMPLE OF GOD IS GLORY, WHICH TEMPLE YE ARE.

The save. His Word, HE stopped it. A sudden halt to seize the madness. Excessive anxiety and cold, thumping heartbeats slowing down. Yahweh. Yahweh. Yahweh! He...he spoke. He is the refuge. The solid rock of stability. The line of sanity amongst the crazed mess. The one of unending reliance. His goodness opposing the evil. The LORD, the Holy One, the only God.
