"They seem to be recovering well." The doctor said, startling Emmanuel from his sleep. "Huh?" What's going on?" He murmured. Emmanuel had been there since they arrived from the burning building. He took time to go home, take a shower and eat. Then, he came right back to keep an eye on them. He felt overwhelmingly responsible for them going through it all. They had nearly died. He thought he should have gone sooner. He should have gone with Keno to help Oshun.
Emmanuel convinced himself to go help Keno after hours of meditating and asking for guidance from the spirit realm. He had been so afraid of the gruesome, confusing images he had envisioned the last time he meditated. He thought he would die if he went to help Keno.
When he arrived at the building Penny was killed in, he saw smoke filling the small windows and immediately called for help. He tried to break down the door, but it wouldn't budge. He took a stone and was able to break one of the small window glasses, but it wasn't big enough to fit anything through it. The space simply began letting out some of the smoke from the building.
When the police and fire department arrived, they were able to break down the door and pull Keno and Oshun out of the building before it was too late. Looking at their lifeless, battered bodies being pulled out of the building was horrifying. The scene resembled one of the images that he had seen in his meditation, and it broke his heart. He could have helped more.
Oshun and Keno had been in the hospital unconscious for days, but they were healing a little more each day. Keno's wounds were severe, but the doctors were able to stitch his wounds and they were healing very well. He would develop scars that would last as a reminder forever.
"So, doctor, when will they wake up?" Emmanuel asked. "No se. Es un proceso. Pero todo esta bien ahora. No se preocupe. They are lucky to have you as a friend." The doctor said. "Gracias por todo, doctor." Emmanuel replied. He felt a little bit of relief that the doctor wasn't more concerned about their condition. He decided it was time to go take a shower and get some rest before his next shift.
Emmanuel stood up from the hospital couch and made his way towards the door. "Thanks bro. You really are the best friend a guy could have." Keno said groggily. "Aye bro!" Emmanuel shouted as he ran to Keno to give him a hug. "Mira! Estupido! You are crazy! He said. "Hey man, I had to go get my woman! I had no choice." Keno said with slight a grin.
"I am glad you're ok. I am sorry I didn't come with you Keno. I was so afraid. I wish I did. He said, lowering his head in shame." "Hey, don't do that. You are not responsible for what happened to us. You saved our lives. I will be grateful until my last breath and beyond." Keno said, grabbing Emmanuel's hand, shaking it. "Go take care of yourself." "Alright Keno, I am out of here. Let me know if you need anything." "I will Emmanuel. Thanks again."
After Emmanuel walked out of the door, Keno looked over to Oshun who was sleeping peacefully. He smiled at her angelic expression. He lifted his bed sheet and pulled his gown up to check his wounds. The stiches were neat and there was no blood anywhere. He didn't feel much pain from his wounds either. He was probably drugged up on pain meds. He didn't mind. The thought of the pain he had felt sent chills through his body. He was surprised to be alive.
Keno got up from his bed and carefully made his way over to Oshun. He gently caressed her cheek with his fingertips and appreciated the fact that she was alive. They had made it. Oshun slowly opened her eyes. She looked into Keno's eyes and smiled. "Hey there handsome. Can we go home now?" She asked with a smile. "As soon as doc says so, we are out of here my university wife." Oshun smiled again, blushing.
