It was the wrong question to ask. Cat shut down totally and turned her face up to him. Alex had seen such a look only once before and hoped never to see it on anyone again. Especially on the face of someone he once had...caring feelings for.
Alex didn't move, couldn't breathe. Her beautiful, expressive eyes went dark and all the color drained from her face. Cat's lips turned white as a faraway expression descended on her face. As if, she wasn't sitting just an arm's length away.
"Cat," Alex whispered in an effort to bring her back from whatever hell she'd flashed back to. He knew it wouldn't do to shake or shout at her. Or even, grab his gun and go decimate this Cameron Navarr for her. Fill him with so many holes that even the Devil would think twice about resurrecting his disciple.
I have to get her back.
But as he hovered over her, she seemed to come back to herself and wrapped her arms even more tightly around her.
