Chapter 64 - Another Chance

"You can buy whatever you want with simply a flick of your hand! Your parents support your schooling and all that you need, but that's not my case! I honestly hate doing this, but I'm too desperate to not go through the worst again! This is how we, the unfortunate ones, will be able to survive and thrive and you will never understand that!"

Hyacinth was just looking at him, perplexed.

"I could not even imagine that Terry, who was such a sweet and pure person whom I fell in love with... was really just an illusion." Hyacinth's disappointment was visible in her expression.

Lester was brought back to his senses by those words. "S-sorry Haya... I didn't mean to yell at you. I just---"

"Is your past also a lie?" She interrupted him with that question while giving him a serious stare. "What about Gabriella? She's undoubtedly your accomplice."

He couldn't even answer her, and his silence reaffirmed the answer to her question.

Hurt was painted on Hyacinth's face. "I did nothing wrong to either of you! How come you both did this to me?!" Her fist struck on his chest as she screamed at him. "How could both of you be so cruel?!"

He wanted to wipe her tear-soaked cheek, but he knew she wouldn't want him to because of her hatred for him. "You did nothing wrong, Haya; it's all on me." He tried to calm her down. "But believe me, I never anticipated we'd grow feelings for each other. I would never have started this stupidity if I had known."

"Enough! You and your f*cking excuses! I knew you weren't going to tell me everything because by the time we got closer, you didn't tell me anything! You had plenty of chances to say it, but you didn't!"

Lester shook his head. "Please listen to me, Haya... I'll admit that at first, I was worried of losing my job here, so I kept pretending to be Terry," he admitted, "But I didn't imagine that later, I'd be afraid of losing you in exchange for the truth." He held her hand again, trying to make her feel his sincerity.

Hyacinth was inconsolably crying.

"I know it will not be easy for you to forgive me. I am willing to do anything if you will just forgive me, so I hope you believe that I truly love you, Hyacinth. Please believe me this time…" He even knelt in front of her to express his real wish to be forgiven, kissing her hand and looking her in the eyes with tears welling up in his eyes.

Her tears flowed even more. "Why everything seemed so easy for you?" she asked, drawing her hand away from his. "I put my complete trust in you, yet you betrayed it without a second thought. After doing all of those, how can you still say that you love me?"

"Hyacinth please... Give me another chance. Just once. Please..." While still kneeling in pleading, he clasped his hands. "I promise, I'll never lie to you again. Just another chance. I'll prove to you that I'm worthy for another chance in your life. Please Haya… I don't want us to end like this… Please…"

Hyacinth wiped her tear-soaked cheeks with the back of her hand and gave him a piercing cold look, like she'd already made up her mind. "You truly think I'm a fool, don't you? Even if you bleed here in pleading, there's no way I'll forgive you merely to make you ease your guilt, so don't show your face to me again; you disgust me."

Lester's eyes widened at her words, and Hyacinth walked into her room, leaving him still kneeling there. Then she slammed the door shut, echoing across the room.

Lester was left speechless on the moment, tears streaming down his cheeks while staring at naught. Everything was already weighing heavily on his thoughts.

He knew Hyacinth would be furious once she found out everything. He had already made plans to leave as soon as it happened.

But, considering that he had already fallen deeply in love with her, he couldn't prepare himself for the miserable emotions that would consume him once it happened.

Their relationship had been already irreparably ruined... owing to his actions.

And that, they could never go back to how the way they were.

(Inside Hyacinth's room...)

Hyacinth lost her strength on her body, which made her to sit on the floor on her knees while her back leaning against her closed door. Her confrontation with Lester had left her shattered.

She wanted to cry out loud with how horrible everything she had learnt was, but she covered her mouth to not make any sound as she shut her eyes tightly. Her throat and chest grew heavy and pained from trying to suppress her emotions that were wanting to escape through her tears and sobs.

She could even hear Lester's footsteps approaching her room, so she pressed her hand against her mouth even harder to refrain from making any sound that he could hear. She didn't want him to know how devastated she was by what happened because it would give him the impression that she loved him more… and she was on the losing end.

She didn't hear anything outside until she heard his footsteps leaving the house a few moments later.

When she could no longer feel his presence in the house, she couldn't take it anymore and removed her hand from her mouth then started crying her heart out. She felt as though the invisible hands inside her chest were twisting and ripping her heart cruelly as her entire world was falling apart.

She felt as if she couldn't take any more pain.

***"I just did it because I desperately needed a job here…"

"You won't understand me because you're privileged, Hyacinth!"***

"T-terry..." she called her name, as though she was mourning Terry's death.

She realized she would never see her again. That Terry would never be coming back.

The one she cherished so much…

She had lost her in a way… that was far worse than death.

Her cries got louder as she started to realize everything, and the surrounding silence only added to her heartbreaking cry.
