'What the heck was that?' Daniel growled.
'My girlfriend? My baby? What was that shit?'. He wanted to hit something so badly.
'Calm down. You know how people assume things. She was probably judging from the situation'. Bryan tried to calm him down.
What was all this. How possible is it that only one person will face so many problems in just a day.
'Why am I having this feeling that that woman has a hand in this? She could have been the one who gave the doctor that impression. Look Bryan, I don't need this OK? It's not good for me. If the press gets their filthy hands on this. Then I'm dead meat'. He ran his hand through his hair.
'The only thing the press can ever do is make speculations. It can only be true if it is true. Let's go see Macy first and then get out of here'.
'Crazy ton of shit'. He swore under his breath.
'These people had better have a clearer explanation of all of these because I won't take it,not even one bit'.
'C'mmon man, stop vibrating. Let's go in and see her first. We can take things from there'. Bryan further urged.
They both walked into the room that Macy was in.
She was lying by her side. Her head tilting to one side so she was facing the wall.
She didn't even notice their presence until they were seated.
Bryan gently touched her shoulders and she turned around to face them.
'I'm sorry'. She spoke ever so softly.
Daniel studied her then. She was young, very young. Much more younger than he had earlier assumed her to be. She didn't look a day over twenty two. Her pale, white face was creased with a frown. Her blue eyes were dull and had absolutely no sparkle in them. Her brown hair was tied into a loose bun,few tendrils sneaking out from here and there. Her chest rose and fell with her slow intakes of breathe,as if she was fighting so hard to stay alive.
His eyes caught the small bandage on her left ankle where she'd most definitely injured during her fall. Daniel couldn't help but notice how beautiful her feet were. They were the only thing in her frail body that were still in good shape. Her toe nails were beautifully cut and neatly trimmed. Daniel quickly dragged his gaze back to her face.
'I didn't mean for any of this to happen'. She spoke again. 'Mr. Carter. You have to help me apologize to him. All of that was an honest mistake, one I couldn't control. I know that document probably means a lot to you and I hate the fact that I'm the one who ruined it'. Her eyes were pleading.
A lone tear escaped her eyes and she slowly lifted her left hand to brush it off. Daniel noticed that her fingers were adorned with neither an engagement nor wedding ring. He had no idea who this woman was but she seemed to have a lot going on with her. She was sick, pregnant and unmarried.
'It's Ok, Macy. I promise that Daniel and I will sort this out. What you have to focus on right now is how to get well. The doctor thinks you work too much and that is bad for you and your baby'. Bryan said to her.
'The doctor also said you've been discharged. Did you call any of your family members?'. He further asked.
Her face grew even paler than before. She seemed to think for a moment before she answered.
'No, I didn't. I don't have my phone. But I can go home on my own. Could you help me just call a cab?'. She said.
'I'll take you home'. Daniel spoke the words before he even had time to think them through.
She opened her mouth to protest but was shut up by Bryan.
'Shhhh... There'll be no need to argue'. Turning to Daniel he said.
'I'll go get the written diet guide for her. You both should meet me downstairs'. With that,he left the room.
Daniel held out his hand to her and slowly pulled her up from the bed. She slowly buckled up her sandals and he crossed her arms around his shoulder.
Her first step was accompanied by a concealed yelp of pain. The second was followed by a slow moan. She tightened her face and took a third step. She was fighting so hard to take those steps and Daniel knew she was in great pains.
When he couldn't take her serial moans of distress any longer,he bent down a little, placed his free hand at the back of her knees and took her into his arms.
She gasped with surprise but didn't say anything.
He could feel the rigidity of her body against his as he approached the entrance of the ward but it seemed like the more steps he took, the more she relaxed in his arms.
Few minutes later, they arrived the parking lot and met Bryan already waiting for them. He had a paper on his right hand, a hospital nylon on the other a frown on his face.
He put the paper into the nylon and offered it to Macy who muttered a little 'Thanks'.
'I got that from the nurse at the reception when I went to settle the bill'. He explained. 'Take care of yourself, alright?'
Turning to Daniel he said. 'I have to run. I just got a call from my old man and it sounded urgent. Seems like they're fighting again'.
Daniel noticed his mood had dropped from what it was originally was.
'Thanks for your help man. You appeared when I greatly needed you'. He said, hoping that'd lift his friend's spirit a bit.
'It's nothing bro. I'll see you around'. He gave Daniel a quick pat on the shoulder, entered his car and sped off,the 'Cheer up man' from his friend getting lost on the dust his car raised.
Daniel helped Macy into his car and drove off as well.
