Chapter 25

Macy woke up feeling super excited. She didn't know the exact reason but she felt it had something to do with the fact that she would finally see Daniel today.

She'd missed him terribly, feeling empty with his absence.

After their video call last night, she'd hugged herself to sleep, dreaming about him through the night.

Surprisingly her nightmares had disappeared like a miracle, and dreams of Daniel and a happy ending with him had taken their place.

She found herself humming through the morning while she made a breakfast of omelette that turned out a disaster but which she ate nonetheless, while she had a warm bath and the most soothing bath she'd ever had and while she made her face up,styled her hair and tried out different outfits in preparation for her trip to the hospital.

She dialed the cab agency she'd gotten  their number from the Internet.

Daniel had insisted she could take his other car but she'd refused and when he'd deliberately 'forgotten' to send her the agency's phone number she'd asked him for, she'd surfed the Internet and had gotten just want she wanted.

They answered on the first ring. She made her orders and gave them her address, then sat down and waited for her driver's arrival.

Fifteen minutes later, she was on her way to the hospital.

'Could we journey on a low speed?' She asked the very friendly driver as soon as she boarded the vehicle.

'Of course ma'am. He replied, turning to look at her, a firm smile plastered across his face.

She watched as cars sped past them,a dreamy look on her face.

She thought about the future and smiled. She was very positive the future held something beautiful for her. Especially if that future would include Daniel and her baby.

Unconsciously, her hand moved to her belly and she rubbed it. Her baby rubbed right back and she smiled again.

Her eyes caught a quite tall building. It looked like a cathedral. Or was it just what it was,a tall building?.

She decided to ask.

'That building over there, what is it?' She asked the driver, pointing towards the building.

'Oh! That's a cathedral. The cathedral of our lady of the angels'.

She stretched her neck further to get a better view.

'If it's this lovely from the outside. I wonder how beautiful the insides will be'.

'There's no need to wonder ma'am. The inside is actually very lovely'.

Soon, the building was out of sight and she relaxed back into her seat.

She found herself asking questions about various other significant buildings they passed and kept wondering how she hadn't really seen any of these beautiful places on her previous visit to the hospital.

Maybe because she'd come with Daniel.

She was sure she'd been busy checking him out to even notice any of the buildings.

When they finally arrived the hospital and after spending a total of forty three minutes with her doctor. Macy realised that her excitement about the beautiful buildings she'd seen earlier hadn't abated one bit.

She was itching to go check things out.

The doctor further fueled her decision to walk most of the distance home when she advised her to take more leisure walks as it would 'help' her and her baby greatly.

She called the friendly cab driver she'd come with earlier and cancelled her trip back home.

She walked out of the hospital and smiled inwardly.

She was about get really busy.

Growing up,she'd been a really inquisitive child, asking questions about anything and everything.

She was quite surprised that even as an adult, she still had that fiery adventurous spirit. Pregnancy did nothing to restrain her always-wanting-to-get-busy muscles. If nothing, it added to it all the more.

Her parents had had...

No!

She shoved her mind out from whatever lane it'd decided to wander off on it's own.

She wasn't going to think about her parents. She was going to go on an...call it adventure.

Yay!

She walked towards the cathedral after she decided to check it out first. Taking the sidewalk, she navigated her way through a pile of bubbling adults and children.

Her phone buzzed and she ignored it,knowing it'd be Daniel and picking his call would mean a cancelled adventure.

'I'm sorry sweetheart,I've got work to do'. She muttered under her breathe, excitement taking the better part of her as the cathedral came into full view.

At the entrance, she met quite a number of people who were as excited as she was,if not more.

So,they spent the next hour, touring the cathedral together and holding small conversations.

After having her fill of the cathedral, she decided to go two more places before finally going home.

By the next hour, she was completely contented with herself and the places she'd gone to, although her legs were aching and all the muscle was in her body were protesting.

Deciding to go straight home, she began to walk down to where she was supposed to board a taxi.

She had just walked a few meters before she spotted a magazine outlet.

'Just one more place,Macy'. She promised herself before gingerly walking into the place.

She was shown around by a stiff shouldered attendant.

They had several collections of magazines, ranging from foods to fashion, lifestyle and entertainment.

She picked the most current and the ones she knew would have the juiciest stories, paid for them and walked out again.

When she settled into the taxi, she pulled out the papers from her bag and began to flip through the pages.

She had just flipped past the third when she saw something that made her stop dead.

With eyes double their actual size, fidgeting hands and a heart thumping wildly in her chest, she slowly turned back to the place she'd just flipped past.

On the magazine's cover was Lisa Peterson, Daniel's ex-girlfriend,sprawled over Daniel, kissing him passionately.

Another picture had him dragging her by her wrist to God-knows-where.

The pictures didn't even upset her.

It was the caption that broke her heart.

''...When you make up with your girlfriend, you can't seem to get her up to your room early enough...''

She paused, knowing she couldn't read further.

Her pulse was racing and her head was beginning to pound.

It wasn't true. It couldn't be true.

Daniel wouldn't do this to her,he wouldn't betray her this way.

This could be an old photo of them that the media had decided to just dig up for lack of content to publish.

But she knew it was what it was.

She knew it was a current picture.  Had she not packed the outfit Daniel was wearing herself?

She felt her chest constricting and swallowed back the sobs that were threatening to break free from her insides.

Her worst fears were staring her in the face.

She'd feared this, she'd dreaded it.

She and Daniel had both being happy and all it had taken Lisa was just a walk into the room and everything had come crashing down on her.

She crumpled the paper and stuffed them back into her handbag.

'Are you ok ma'am? Do you want me to pullover?'

She sniffed. She'd forgotten she had company.

'It's ok. Just get me home as soon as possible'.

Home?

She smiled bitterly. How was she sure she still had a home.
