Recreation Day

"Bye then", said Seraphina. "Wait a minute, you look like you could use some help in finding the classroom. You're the new kid, aren't you?" Adrian said. Nodding her head, Seraphina showed Adrian her schedule. Seraphina turned out to be in the same classroom as Adrian and both of them walked to the classroom and took seats next to each other.

"Good morning, everyone," the teacher greeted, "We have a new student with us today, Seraphina Reynolds. She's come here all the way from Farmington Hills. I hope that all of you will be nice to her and make her feel comfortable." The classes droned on and soon it was time for the lunch recess. Adrian had been called by a teacher to take a few papers, leaving Seraphina alone to navigate her way through the children's cafeteria. After taking her lunch from the in charge, she tried finding a seat for herself but for some reason, nobody really wanted to let her be seated at their table. Whether it was due to the fact that she had stood up to the seniors in the morning or due to the fact that she had associated herself with the likes of Adrian Kavinsky, she did not know.

"There you are," said Adrian catching up to her,"I've been looking for you everywhere. Come with me, I'll introduce you to my friends. We don't eat here cause everyone picks on us. We prefer having our lunch in peace. Come along, I'll show you." He grabbed her arm and they walked out of the children's cafeteria.

Adrian and his friends had chosen a shaded place in the school grounds to have their lunch at. There was a huge oak tree under which they sat and when the wind blew, the air smelt fresh there. "Guys, meet Seraphina. Seraphina, meet my friends. This is Andy," he said, pointing to a brown-haired boy, who waved at her excitedly. He had brown eyes, which were almost covered by the black rimmed glasses that we wore, his complexion was wheatish and his hair was curly. He wore a Spiderman T-shirt with shorts. "This is Sean," Adrian introduced, pointing towards a raven-haired boy, who held his hand out for Seraphina to shake. "We're so happy to have you here. Thank you so much for standing up to Ethan. Almost all the juniors hate him but nobody really helps us or stops them. This was the first time someone's had the courage. It means a lot to us," he said. Seraphina studied Sean carefully. His eyes were a unique pair, one was green while the other was brown. "Why are your eyes---" "Heterochromia, it's a genetic mutation that causes the eyes to be different in color. I would always wonder why I had mismatching eyes when mom's eyes were a matching brown and my dad's a matching green. So, my mom told me one day." "And this," Adrian announced, "is the last of our friends- Selena," he said pointing at a girl in a pink dress. She had a tan complexion and wore her hair in pigtails. "I'm so excited to have another girl in our group. Don't get me wrong, the boys are really fun to be with but they don't play dress up or hair braiding. I finally have someone to do that with," she said. "I'm happy to be here with all of you," replied Seraphina. She sat down between Selena and Adrian and they started having their lunch and talking to them. When the bell rang, they headed towards their classes.

When the bus dropped Seraphina off at her house, she walked in, happy. Her first day at school had been really good. "How was your day?" asked her mother when she came into the kitchen. "It was really good; I made new friends and had a lot of fun. I think that I'm going to like it over here."

Over the course of the month, Seraphina spent all her time with her new friends in school. She helped everyone in her class and gradually, everyone in the class accepted her and started liking her and with time, she got very close to a few of her classmates, especially Adrian and Sean. The three of them were super close and even though they did at times keep things from Andy and Selena, there were absolutely no secrets between Adrian, Seraphina and Sean.

Time passed and soon it was time for Recreation Day at Mount Christ High School. Every month, Mount Christ High School organized a Recreation Day. On this day, no academic courses would be taught in the school. It was the day when the students would come to school accompanied by their guardians and engage in creative and fun activities like painting, games, pottery making, etc. Musical and dance workshops, too, would be held in the campus for the senior students. Seraphina was extremely excited for she was going to attend Recreation Day for the first time. She was excited to meet her friends and also their parents. After shifting to Chicago, her mother was mostly alone. She hoped for her mother to bond with her friends' parents so that she too, like Seraphina, would not be lonely and have friends in this big city.

"Come here mom." Seraphina heard Selena telling her mother. Sean and Andy too, were walking towards them with their guardians. "Welcome to Chicago," said Mrs. Lara Paul, Selena's mother. She was a woman of average height, with roundish glasses framing her round face. She wore a floral print dress that reached till her knees. Andy was accompanied by his grandmother. His parents had passed away in a car accident when he was two and he had been living with his grandparents since. His grandma, Mary Rosewood was a very jolly woman who had a motherly attitude towards everyone she met. She was sixty-five but did not look even a minute older than fifty. Sean's parents, Mr. Aaron Damison and Mrs. Victoria Damison, were entrepreneurs. His father was a tall, green-eyed man who might have looked scary to his business associates but with his wife and son around him, one could clearly see the happiness pooling in his eyes. Mrs. Victoria Damison, on the other hand, was a petite, brown eyed woman. While Mr. Damison owned a hotel, Mrs. Damison had a café of her own.

"Where are Adrian and his parents?" asked Seraphina. "There, they are," and grabbing her mother's hand, Seraphina dragged her to where Adrian stood with his parents. "Mom, I would want you to meet Seraphina and her mom," said Adrian to his mother who stood at the pottery stand. Mrs. Kavinsky turned around to greet Seraphina's mother. Both women stared at each other silently for a moment before blurting out simultaneously:

"Sophie!"

"Kristen!"

A/N: How do you think Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Kavinsky know each other? Tell me in the comments.
