Chapter 009. Innate aurora and the rogue magnus

Magnus.

Arcane beings that makes up the secretive Convent that manufactures the tyrfings that the military uses against the leviaths.

Some says the magnus blesses the tyrfing with their own blood as their blood carries the power of the the three goddesses. Other unbelievers say that the magnus are just ordinary blacksmiths that has nothing to do with the three goddesses.

Because of the inclusiveness of the Convent, variations of all kinds pass from one person to another us clouded facts. Nobody can confirm anything about the internal affairs inside the Convent. Even the source of tyrfings’ powers to kill leviaths is a vague concept.

Silence hung like a thick blanket to everyone. Some of what Ayla theorized was also something new for others.

And knowing how hypersensitive she is to the flow of aurora, her theory may be closer to the truth. The arrival of Miroh produces unexpected leads to the research that they had been working on for years.

”Wait! I have a question! Does that mean he’s also — “

”No.” Vega succinctly shut down Caelum ‘what if?’ with a shake of her head. “It is already a known fact that only woman of privileged upbringing manifest the goddesses’ blessings. Miroh checks out to the first one criteria instantly.”

Funnily enough, the goddesses seem to show a skewed perception of how divinity was portrayed by religious evangelical.

The goddesses who were supposed to pity the condemned beings only bestowed the gift to the female population and to an even more smaller demographic of the nobility.

“Well, Miroh could be a ‘she’, who pretended to be a guy as a knight after escaping a nobel betrothal. But realized that she’s actually a powerful magnus.” Caelum piped in humorously.

”You need to stop referencing Judy Thames’ novel to everything.” Vega glanced above to persuade herself not to beat up a valuable person who can fight later.

Although Hamal and Ayla were both taciturn people, their unrestrained expressions really betray their thoughts.

‘If you have nothing good to say, shut up.’

Their faces seem to speak with a level of curtness.

“That wasn’t a reference. Although that could be a hit with the idle ladies.” Caelum seriously consider that thought. As a person whose interest lies on making money, this was a potential market to exploit.

’Writing a dog-blood novel for those idle ladies could earn him a great profit.’

Judy Thames has recently risen in popularity as a fictional novelist of several romance works that caught the trend of ladies. Nobody knows the anything about the novelist except their ill-fitting alias.

The main character in Caelum’s flash novel, Miroh, had the expression of absolute horror and could only hug his torso protectively. “I am one hundred percent biological male!”

‘What an absurd tale.’

He thought fearfully. He felt like these bunch of eccentrics will really turn his clothes upside down if they were convinced by Caelum whim.

Ayla decided to cut the conversation before any ridiculous tests will happen. “This is the first time I have seen an entirely different aurora from a person. I think his aurora sense a change in his tyrfing and became more incline to calibrate as a result.”

Ayla thought her explanation need to be reinforce with hands on demonstration. ”Can you bring out your weapon?” She requested.

Miroh unraveled the cloth that covered the sword and held it up for everyone to see. The sword still remains unchanging with its dazzling icy blue brilliance.

Ayla observed it for a second before nodding to herself to confirm her theory. “Your aurora rejects the original aurora imbued in the tyrfing, but something must have happened beyond our perception that it’s now gradually condensing with the tyrfing.”

This is the first time they met such unique constitution that they felt very incredulous and lost.

In hindsight, a person with aurora born in their body can be said to be a cheat-like ability. Almost like their body is a fuel-efficient lamp that can go on forever. With Miroh’s case, it is definitely more suitable for slaying leviaths.

“Is it because of your aurora that it changed entirely?”

Caelum hummed, looking closely at the weapon before tilting his head in confusion. “But I don’t really see anything strange. If I didn’t know greenie’s aurora is different, I would never suspect anything.”

Yes. Looking at this case, it would seem like it is an ordinary case of deviation. But in actuality, beneath the flat surface is something peculiar happening.

They would have directly destroyed Miroh’s tyrfing and be done with it. Unknowingly passing this tiny crack for further research.

Vega then raise another concern that has been pressing her mind since the beginning. “Aside from Miroh’s mysterious ability, will the calibrated tyrfing give him sequelae?”

Ayla let out a hum unconsciously. That is another concern that they need to watch out.

“In the midst of chaos is nature’s will of attaining order. Once the opposing flow of auroras reach equilibrium, the tyrfing might no longer indiscriminately sap his innate aurora.” Caelum recited one of the principles of auroraology, taking his eyes off the tyrfing.

Vega furrowed her brows, glancing at Miroh’s head instinctively. Caelum’s explanation still can’t remove all of her doubts.

It is believed that auroras are concentrated in the cognitive part of the body. And so depleting your aurora is almost the same as gradually killing your own mind.

Studies from different military branches’ own research division have arrived on similar conclusions on the effect of deviation. Backed with evidence from patients who undergo levels of deviation and became senile til they die.

“Then let’s observe for any abnormalities when that happen.” She said finally.

”What if something happens to him in the middle of fighting?” Hamal suddenly asked with his deep voice, startling everyone in the room.

Hamal may be a man of few words but when he did open his mouth, his words inevitably startle everyone.

”That’s…a good question.” Vega muttered wryly, looking at Ayla subconsciously for her opinion.

”There might be uncertainties since the two auroras are still in disarray.” In Ayla’s eyes, these two opposing aurora were still trembling erratically in a loop around the tryfing.

Good thing she’s the only one who can see it. Only she could probably understand its undisguised danger.

“But I think it’s the best time to use the tyrfing in its optimal state while we are on a run right now.”

“You’re right. We can only understand an object when we use it.” Vega seriously considered Ayla’s words.

Nothing they fear will happen so long as Miroh will continue to supply his tyrfing with his own aurora.

Vega saw Miroh’s trembling gaze on her and frantically waved her hands to pacify his nerves.

“Don’t worry. You’re not gonna die! If something goes wrong, Ayla will immediately destroy your tyrfing.”

Ayla winced as Vega slapped her back enthusiastically but nodded to agree with Vega’s remark.

‘She don’t look like she’s willing to do anything.’

Miroh thought, looking at Ayla’s domineering expression that never fluctuates.

Caelum also joined in the bandwagon. He tapped his chest self assuredly, trying to manifest the reliable brother aura. “From now on, I am your older brother. You can trust this brother to save you.”

‘Who wants to be your brother!?’

Everybody had the same thought but tacitly did not comment.

“We already have a plan to make sure that everyone will survive today.” Hamal also surprisingly supplied in their vigorous team effort to persuade Miroh.

“Really?” Miroh was finally convinced by Hamal’s words and relaxed his tense body. Add the fact that Hamal had saved him multiple times in the battle. People with goodwill won’t stab you in the back.

“…”

The others were reduced as untrustworthy cult people by Miroh with his honest gesture.

Ah. That’s right. The best method to convince someone unwilling is proving there’s a plan to cater to their worries.
