This wasn't the king
"Your highness?"
Oh! I realized I hadn't answered his question.
"Y-yes I'm fine. Thank you." I answer shakily as my body was still in shock.
He acknowledged that with a nod and signaled to the wolves around us.
I noticed that he was naked.
I wasn't surprised because our clothes are ripped off when we relinquish from skin to fur.
His body was surprisingly warm in contrast to my cold.
Not only were his eyes familiar but his scent was too and it was surprisingly comforting.
I burrow my head into his chest and relish
He didn't seem to notice my movement.
"W-who are you." I asked softly.
He didn't give me answer instead he said:
"Brace yourself your highness, I'm about to increase my speed."
I nod in response and before I knew it, we were running.
He was very fast.
He moved as fast as the wolves around him in skin form.
We reached the palace in no time.
There were maids infront of the palace waiting.
As we came to a halt, I noticed the wolves return back to their skin and amongst them were Axel and Xavier.
They were naked as well, but their stance was rigid and their eyes...
I felt a twinge of sadness as I realized how I must've dissapointed them.
I wanted to go to them but I hesitated, scared of how they might react.
When the stranger put me down he picked a coat from the maid and draped it over my shoulders.
I was led into the palace and taken straight to my chambers.
Carlisle was waiting right outside it.
His eyes were averted but he opened the doors for us and I was led into my bedroom.
A healer was there waiting.
Just a healer.
No one else.
A rush of emotion takes over, anger and sadness amomg them but I had no time to dwell as my body succumbed to the physical exhaustion.
I lay on the bed as the healer examined me.
"I'm just going to give you a sedative to put you to sleep your highness. The satium is almost completely out of your system, so your wounds just need to heal and you just need some rest."
I nodded at her and observed Carlisle speaking to the blue eyed stranger near the door.
Xavier and Axel were nowhere in sight.
"Who are you." I ask the stranger, interrupting their conversation.
He simply stared at me.
I felt the effects of the sedative as my eyelids became heavy and I said to him something I have wanted to say to my stupid mate since I first laid eyes on him.
"Well whoever you are.....you have really pretty eyes."
After that I let myself succumb to the darkness.
***
Carlisle was reading In a chair when I woke up.
He stood up immediately and offered me a cup of water.
He still avoided eye contact.
I took a sip and decided to get over this hurdle.
"Carlisle, I didn't mean to leave the castle walls, I just saw something interesting and..."
I press my hand to my temple in an attempt to block the memory of the maze debacle out.
"It was just a whole thing. I felt caged and I know that's no excuse, I'm really sorry."
Carlisle smiled. "Its completely fine your majesty, we were just really worried about you, but thank the Goddess."
I laughed at his dramatic hand gestures.
"OK," I stood up ready to find my targets.
"Where are the twins." I asked
I pinned my hair back and wore a long jacket from my old clothes.
Carlisle said nothing.
I turned to look at him and he was busy averting his eyes.
"Where are they, Carlisle?"
"Your highness I do-"
"Selene...just selene."
"Your highness selene." He said instead.
I groaned Inwardly.
"You have to understand that you were kidnapped so easily while they were on duty, did you think the king would still keep them on your service."
I was stunned.
He was beyond unbelievable!
I stormed out of the chambers before Carlisle could stop me.
I march down the hall and thank my stars I remembered the king's private office from my tour.
I burst in and completely ignore the room full of royal guards.
"We need to talk."
He stared at me for a few seconds then gestured for the guards to leave us.
I started just as the door clicked shut.
"Why?"
He simply cocked an eyebrow in question. His expression indifferent.
"Why did you remove Axel and Xavier from their duty."
"You were kidnapped." he said matter of factly
"Which wasn't their fault."
"So whose was it?yours?"
His tone was so condescending, I couldnt hold it in anymore.
"I'd say its yours...I've been here for a week and I get nothing from you nothing."
"You prance around with your lover in front of me and I was fucking kidnapped and you didn't even care and all of a sudden you want to save face by taking away my guards!?!"
"Selene."
"No, you ruined the one thing, the one thing I have wanted for such a long time and I have no idea why, and you're being a coward about it, if you didn't want me why did you even come get me?why?. I've t-"
"Selene. Enough."
His voice reverberated through the air and my mark reacted.
That same rush of desire flooded through me.
He glared at me as he stood up from his chair.
"All im asking for is Axel and Xavier back." I asked trying to keep my voice neutral but failing.
He growled to himself. "Why?"
I couldn't answer.
"Why do you want them by your side so badly." He was circling me now and somehow it was hard to form words.
I could feel his pheromones surround the room. Invading my skin.
"Your relationship with your guards seems to have developed quite fast in such a short time, and to think they let you get kidnapped." He smirked. He was mocking me now.
Desire throbbed alongside fury.
I turn around to leave and he grabbed my arm tightly.
Don't touch me." My voice trembled.
His hand moved to my collarbone and landed on my mark.
He caressed it, his eyes unfocused and his face softened in contemplation.
Euphoria poured through my skin. It was bliss, like I'd been starving for weeks.
Heather.
The vision of her laughing as she ate lunch with him...
I shoved him away. "No!"
He fell back a step.
I couldn't do this not after everything that's happened. I gulped and said, " Please just let me have Axel and Xavier back...its the least you could do."
I turn around and leave him standing there as I shut the door behind me.
I lay against it and let the tears flow freely.
I heard a crash and I was sure he threw something against the wall, I could feel his anger from here.
I was hardly going to get any sleep tonight and with the way my mark lashed out, I took comfort in the fact that he wasn't going to get any either.
