Treason

The little prince leaned back in his throne, staring at the woman kneeling infront of him.

"You seem to really want this position.." He told her, already bored of the dragging day.

"Why? Aren't you frightened by me?" He asked with narrowed eyes, watching her face for the slightest reaction.

"Ofcourse I am your majesty. I'd be a fool not to be....but as much as I fear you..I can say that I understand you as well, even if its just a little." She responded, her eyes meeting his with only slight difficulty.

"Huh." He was intrigued.

He stood up and approached her, looking down at her subservient form.

He gripped a handful of her hair roughly and pulled to force her face upward.

"You're conceited...but I'll forgive you this time."

She smiled at him now, letting her angelic face contort into a form of crazed expression like that of one who has been possessed.

His eyes widened momentarily with surprise, before turning sadistic as a wide grin spreads across his face.

"How interesting."

He returned to his throne crossing his legs in a high fashion.

"Go back to your room. You're dismissed till I call for you."

She bowed and made her way out.

Just as she reached the doors, she heard him ask.

"Your name?Tell me."

She didn't turn back fully, instead she shifted her body to the side slightly, then turned her head almost all the way backwards.

"Heather, your majesty. Just Heather."

I wake up suddenly to the call of my name.

My eyelids lifted and I sat up, my eyes taking in every ray of light and without a doubt I know I've slept too long.

"Your grace. Thank the Goddess." Carlsile sighed, relieved that I had finally woken up.

"We need to leave now." The healer abruptly stated as she walked in.

As soon as I see her I snarl viciously, kicking the sheets off my body as I get into a defensive stance.

She doesn't flinch. She isn't threatened by me at all.

Carlisle steps infront of her in an attempt to block any attack from me.

"Your highness, please calm down, she's trying to help us!"

At that moment, Xavier and Axel rush into the room.

"Its done. We'll be able to leave undetected now." Axel said to the healer.

"Good. We don't have much time." She replied.

"Whats going on here?" I finally ask.

They all look to me.

The healer stepped forward.

"Listen to me very carefully your highness.Your life is in danger. We need to get you out of the North as soon as possible. I've contacted your closest acquaintance Princess Valerie to make the arrangements. Your guards and assistant will be accompanying you to the human realm. But we have limited time so we have to leave now."

I was shocked to say the least." Are there intruders in the castle? Who are they? How many?"

No one said anything instead, Carlisle extended his hand and I took it.

He gripped it firmly and they all started moving.

As we advanced, the castle seemed empty...there was no one around.

"You didn't answer my questions." I say to them.

The healer says nothing instead she put a finger to her lips, in an attempt to shush me.

I take offence, but I comply nonetheless.

We come to a stop at the door at the end of a long hallway.

"This is where I leave you, your grace." The healer bowed

"Wait...you haven't fully explained to me what's going on."

"Your assistant will fill you in on the way."

"I thought you were loyal to the king, why are you helping me?" I ask her.

"I am...this is me being loyal." She murmurs.

I wanted to demand more, but they all seemed to be on edge and apparently the situation was dire so I refrain.

It wouldn't hurt to find out more after I get somewhere safe.

"Thank you." I say to her.

She nods and steps back as we go through the door.

We go down several flights of stairs, till we reach a room in the lowest part of the basement.

It was equipped with furniture as if someone had lived there.

The twins moved the largest couch and there was a round safe under it.

"Your majesty," Axel called to me after he pulled it open.

He jumped down while and I took the ladder attached to the wall.

Xavier helped Carlisle down and closed the latch.

Axel unzipped a bag that was left on the ground and pulled out a satchel and a torch.

"This way, your highness." He said as he took the lead down the now lit up tunnel.

We walked for at least a good 5 minutes before I asked.

"Are we safe now, Axel."

He didn't turn back to answer.

"Far from it your highness, but we're passed the range of earshot, so conversation should be fine.. Xavier?"

He nodded.

"You've been asleep for two days your majesty, and now...you're wanted for treason."

Treason?

"How is that even possible?"

"The wound you inflicted on his majesty before you passed out was said to have contained some sort of poison and they've been unable to figure it out." Carlisle responded.

"You were to be arrested as soon as the second in command, The king of the south arrived, but we all know he's not coming." Xavier added.

"Why?"

"He's been MIA for a couple of weeks now, even his sister, Princess Valerie has no idea where he is."

"That ultimately means that your fate will soon fall to the hands of the Eastern king. Maximilian Echevalier Roosevelt."

What they were saying made sense, but there was something vital I couldn't understand.

"I injured the king on his arm...no poison can act as fast as to kill him within two days right?" I tried to sound as calm and nonchalant as possible, but even I know I sounded a little panicky.

The bond has been quiet ever since I woke up and I was afraid to stir it, just incase I might not like what I find.

But if he was dead, I should've felt it.

Mates feel the severing of the bond when the partner dies. It causes severe pain.

So he couldn't have...there was no way...

"No your grace. His majesty is alive...but barely." Carlisle stated downcast.

"He collapsed the night you were returned to the Castle and hasn't woken up since." Axel provided

Goddess...

I didn't want to feel anything.

I couldn't care less if he was sick...but dammit if my heart didn't hurt.

I hated the fact that I cared whether he lived or died. But that was just something I was going to have to live with.

"Oh." I muttered, taking deep breaths to calm myself.

"That's why we need to get you out. The king of the East wants the throne and his daughter is nursing the king right now. She will kill him and convince the entire court of nobles that you're guilty and you will be executed without a second thought."
