The air at the edge of the forest was thick with tension. Every mother and sister in Overa had gathered to witness the verdict pronounced by Mother Gudit. The chosen three—Tiya, Ivy, and Meme—stood with Kal, their fates uncertain and the weight of judgment heavy on their shoulders. The atmosphere was electric, every breath held as the High Court mothers took their positions to address the crowd. 


Suddenly, Sister Kenet, who had been unconscious and tended to by a few mothers near the edge of the gathering, stirred. Her breaths were ragged, her eyes fluttering open with a dazed and distant look. 


“Are you okay?” one of the mothers asked, her voice full of concern. 


Kenet’s body trembled as fragments of her memories began to resurface—flashes of dark smoke, her connection with Bate, and the moment she drove the obsidian blade into him. She clutched her head, trying to make sense of it all.
