Chapter 11
When they got to school, Edward and Helen sat on the bleachers on the football field while Amelia hurriedly went to change into her sports wear.
She came back when she was done to join the rest people practicing
There was complete silence when Dion and another boy stepped on the field .
"Gather round everyone" Dion said
They formed a circle around him
"Hall Hemon hasn't won a championship ever but! That is gonna change this year"
Everyone clapped in encouragement.
"We are gonna train harder. The first year students will be benched because they have no experience. Nevertheless, they will practice in case of anything. Am I clear?"
"Yes captain"
"Our match with Hall Cleon is next month. We are the smallest team in number but that won't stop us from winning"
"Yes captain"
"Let's get started"
The practice commenced. Hall Hemon had only twenty players; 11 players on a team, 1 goal keeper and the remaining 8 are on bench
The training was intense. Amelia wondered how other days would be if the first day was this stressful.
Dion taught them all the tricks hall Cleon used. He taught them how to dodge hits from the rival team cause that was their strategy - to knock people down then make it seem like an accident.
The seniors were surprised at Amelia's skills. She was surprised herself at how good she was. She dodged hits from the bigger girls swiftly and always scored goals.
She even managed to snatch the ball away from Dion once and he's the best player on the team. He was shocked at the fact that his charms had no effect on her. That was the first time something like this ever happened to him.
Most girls would do anything not to get him offended; let alone struggle with him for a ball. After an hour of extreme practice the bell rang signalling time for lunch.
"Great job guys. We meet here on Monday after school" Dion announced
They groaned. They had free time after school before it was time for common room.
"I don't wanna hear it" Dion said "you'll have your reward when we win. There's no time to rest "
"Yes captain"
"Go back to your dorms"
They packed their things and walked back to their dorms as they were told.
"Walker" Dion called out
Amelia who was walking to her friends turned at the mention of her name.
"Yes senior Dion?" She answered
"You did great today. I'm impressed"
"Thank You"
He smiled at her before walking away with his friends. Helen ran to her screaming.
"Oh my gosh. He's totally into you" Helen squealed
"You're crazy"
Edward was on the bleachers sleeping, his glasses threatening to fall off his face.
"Wake up Eddy" Amelia called
Helen shook him vigorously making him jump up.
"Come on. Practice is over" Helen said
The three of them walked to the cafeteria. On their way they heard Mr Atlas and Mrs Schitz discussing in a corner.
Helen signalled for them to stop.
"Why are we listening to this?" Edward asked
"Shh" Helen said "my instincts say so"
The teachers conversed as thus
"Do you think Sator is back for real?" Mr atlas asked
"Yes" Mrs Schitz responded "he's off to find Jacquan Daniels"
"For the golden apples?"
"Yes but he doesn't know the cave is in the woods"
"Who's Sator?" Amelia asked
"Shh" Helen hushed her
"Impossible!" Mr Atlas exclaimed "its just a myth"
"It isn't. Why do you think creatures wonder there at night trying to secure the place. Why does professor Keon forbid everyone, even us teachers from going there. Not even a master of magic can go deep into the woods and come out alive"
"This could be true"
"We'll talk about this later"
Footsteps of the teachers walking away were heard.
"What's going on? " Amelia asked
"Why are we listening to them? What's happening?" Edward said
"I think I know" Helen said "Mrs Schitz announced a war is coming on our first day of school. I think these apples have something to do with them"
"What's our business?" Edward asked confusedly
"I've always wanted to know about the war but the teachers won't budge. That's why I stopped us cause I knew that was what they were talking about"
"And?"
"Oh, come on guys. Don't you wanna go on an adventure or something?"
Edward and Amelia laughed. Helen looked confused.
"What's funny?" Asked Helen
"You" Edward said "you're crazy"
"Yes" Amelia agreed "I'm notorious enough for killing my parents which wasn't even my fault. Now, you want me to break the rules by getting involved with something that clearly isn't my concern and can get me into trouble. No thank you"
"Let's go for lunch. I'm starving" Edward said
Helen sighed sadly at the fact that they didn't care about her idea. But no one knew that was about to change
