29. Tyler

When I arrived back in Houston heading home after a three day road trip, I made a quick stop at the supermarket first to buy some healthy and nutritious food for Keya since I am kind of worried that she’s maybe eating an instant foods and gummy worms which are absolutely not good for the baby. Yup! You’re right I’m starting to make up things with her.

Few moments later, I found myself walking towards Keya’s room. It’s Saturday evening, for sure she’s home. I knocked on her door twice. After hearing few commotions inside the door swing open and a Keya wearing an eyeglasses with a messy bun opened the door.

“Hollis!” She exclaimed removing her glasses.

She completely looked so surprise, well of course, I haven’t told her I am coming.

“Can I come in?”

“Sure.” She said and opened the door for me. I’m even surprise that the place is well-cleaned up unlike the last time that I was here. I saw a bunch of books are placed neatly on the boxes on the corner that I haven’t noticed before, I feel like the numerous amount of unarranged books I have seen here the first time just doubled.

“You owned all those books?”

“The dorm manager was kind enough to retrieve all my other books in the dorm.” She said. “I’m actually shipping some of those books to Southshields because I couldn’t fit everything in here.”

“You’re a bookworm, huh?”

“Bibliophile.” She answered before her eyes lits up darting her attention to the two eco bags full of groceries I am holding. “Is that all for me?”

“Oh! Yeah. It is.” I replied completely forgetting it. Before I can do anything she already run towards me and grab the bags herself.

“Aw, thank you Daddy!” She said bringing all the bags to the dining table and started to pull them out one by one. She looks like a damn kid unboxing new toys right now.

I couldn’t help but snort. “Did you just called me Daddy?”

“Nope. The baby did.”

She answered without looking at me which made me snicker. And just what I thought, she started murdering the bag of gummy worms I bought. I seriously don’t have plans on buying one but when I saw it at the grocery store earlier I decided to just buy it since it is one of her cravings.

“Thank you for these, seriously.” She said and started arranging the groceries on the cupboard.

“Why didn’t you called or texted?” I asked.

“You told me to just contact you when the baby needs anything.” She said staring at me. “And besides, I was really busy with my thesis so I didn’t get the chance to update you or anything.”

Oh yeah, I forgot about what I ordered her. Why am I so stupid?

“Forget what I said.” I told her, I’m serious about making things right here from now on. “Text me if you feel like it.”

“Why are you here by the way?” She asked as she continued herself from taking care of the groceries while I found myself cozying up on her couch. I certainly have nothing else to do tonight and staying on my other side of the house alone might give me an excuse to get drunk. Or perhaps call Elise, thinking about cozying a night in with McCovey makes me want to get drunk all the time, so this is a good distraction.

“I just want to check up you and the baby.” I replied. “Besides you haven’t texted me and I wanted some update.”

“Well, I’m good. Just busy with school work but the baby is doing fine.” She said walking past me heading to the study table across from me. “So you can go now.”

“Are you kicking me out?” I said completely surprised that she wants me out.

She looked on me as she sits on the chair facing her laptop. “Well, the last time you were here. You’re so eager to leave! And don’t you think it’s weird enough that you are at my room?”

“Well, this is still my house.” I replied but she just shrugged.

“I’m having a baby with you. That’s even weirder.” I added smirking.

“Fair enough.” She replied a bit surprised. “Well then, suit yourself.”

“Good. Now, where’s the remote control? And I am ordering a pizza, what do you want?”

Her eyes even grew wider. Yeah, right! I don’t care what she thinks right now. I’m staying for me to have an excuse on not drinking.

“Just make the volumes low, I’m finalizing my proposal papers.” She said handing me the remote control.

“What kind of toppings do you want on your pizza?” I asked her while I dial the pizza delivery number.

“I’m not picky.”

“Alright.”

Few minutes later, I made myself comfortable eating a pizza and watched a silly dating show on the television while Keya herself just minded her own thing typing something on her laptop.

My attention wasn’t really on the television to be honest. The whole time I was here I only stared on her and entertained myself from watching the way she reads a book, staring somewhere else right before typing something again and all the little things she does.

I’m totally not surprised why I did hooked up with her in the bathroom before.

She’s really gorgeous.

If I’m sober the first night we met, I’d still hook up with her that’s for sure.

“Do you guys say discombobulate in here?” She suddenly asked out of nowhere without looking at me which made me flinched and immediately darted my gaze back on the television right before she sees me staring at her.

“Sorry, say what?” I asked dumbly.

“Discombobulate?”

“Discombo—absolutely not, that’s way too much for one word?” I asked. English might be my native language but I don’t know big words in English.

“Obviously you don’t.” She said and sighed before releasing a loud groan dropping her head on the desk.

“What are you doing by the way?”

“I’m making revisions on my thesis proposal.” She said in a lazy tone.

“So you’re already a senior?”

She nodded and stared on the box of pizza I put on my chest. “Uhmm… can I have one slice of your pizza?”

“Sure.” I immediately obliged. I still have two slices of my own pizza and I’m already full but Keya is the complete opposite. She has devoured her own Hawaiian pizza an hour ago and still asks for another one.

As she put a slice of pizza on her mouth, I couldn’t help but comment on her. “You don’t eat like a girl.”

“It’s not me. It’s the baby.” She reasoned out heading back to her desk.

“Oh yeah, blame it on the baby.” I said smirking as I roll my eyes. But instead of answering she just threw a book on my way.

I released a sigh. This whole situation is so strange but it seems right. The whole time I was in here I couldn’t help but spoil myself into starring at Keya busying herself on her laptop. She’s totally not looking at her best right now, she’s wearing an eyeglass, her blonde hair is tied up on a messy bun, she’s wearing a baggy shirt and a sweatpants on but she still look so stunning. Especially when she pouts her lips starring on the screen probably thinking something, that turns me on.

Heck! I might probably attracted to smart girls.

“Stop that!” She suddenly said which made me flinch a bit and darted my eyes away from hers.

“Stop what?” I said playing dumb. “What did I do?”

“Stop starring at me.” Damn!

“I’m not.” I immediately denied, that was kinda awkward. Instead of sticking around for long I turned off the television. “I gotta go. You rest.”

She turned to me and nodded, but right before I take a step heading to the doors she suddenly made face as her hands abruptly went into her belly.

“What’s wrong?” I instantly asked walking towards her right in a second. Jezz! Her bleeding few months ago really caused a huge trauma on me that every time she winces I easily feel an instant panic in my system.

“He’s been kicking a lot these days.” She said. “I don’t like it.”

“He’s been kicking?” I asked again in complete surprise. “My baby is a boy?”

She looked straight to my eyes blankly. “Oh! Sorry, what did I say? Uhmm no—I mean, I don’t know the gender of the baby yet.”

That got me! But well, false alarm.

“We need to see your doctor tomorrow. I’m free, we can get an ultrasound.” I ordered.

“Tomorrow?”

I nodded. “What? Do you have any plans tomorrow? Because if that is the case I need you to cancel it.”

I saw her nodding. “No, I’m actually free.”

“Good.”
