CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: The curse of the left eye

I woke up in a soft bed and I looked around and the coat in my body catch my attention. I grabbed my left eye and I left a sigh of relief when I felt my eyepatch.

“It’s good that you’re awake.” I immediately looked at the man, the owner of the voice- my elder brother.

Elder brother.

I really wanted to call him but to my annoyance I resist myself. I don’t know why but I just kind of don’t feel like calling him big brother or elder brother for the mean time.

I did not speak and just looked at him then he sighed. I sat down properly then I put the coat that hand been on my body on the other side of the bed.

He’s still the same as before.

“When I tell you, will you hunt me down and kill me too like the Elders?” I asked.

He looked at me as if I was giving him a joke and when he found out that I was not giving him a nonsense joke he immediately shook his head, “Why would I do that?” he asked like he’s near to get mad.

“Good then, at least you still have sister-brother feelings for me.” I said and then stared at the small table in front of me.

He stands up and no one spoke between the two of us. He walked at my back and I don’t know what he’s doing behind me and I don’t care of what it is. I know he won’t do something that will hurt me. He then went to my right side and gave me the tea that I loved. He put it on the small table in front of me and then he sat down for a while holding his tea cup.

“So, what really happened? Heal stabbed you multiple times and yet you’re still alive and take note, you don’t have any wound.” He immediately asked me, “Don’t get me wrong, I am not cursing you I’m just curious.” He added.

“Did you remember my left eye?” I asked my removing my eyepatch.

“The blessed eye?”

“No, this left eye is a cursed one.” I said.

“I miss that left eye of yours, Avabil.” He said softly while looking at my left eye. “I haven’t seen that for years.” He added with a smile.

I blinked, “And I didn’t allow anyone to see it except for my family.” And I saw the smile on his face because of what I just said.

“This is a cursed for me and blessing for the others. This left eye can boost my taika and also it can make my body immortal. Take what Heal did to me and the result of it. I was stabbed multiple times. Even someone stabbed me from the back, put an acid at my face or body, cut off my hands and feet, it will still be able to regenerate or will heal it faster than usual, no matter what happened I won’t die. It will not damage my body because no matter what it will return to its original form. That is probably the reason why it is a gift for everyone but cursed to the owner, it will make the owner lives for a hundred or even thousands of years. I don’t want to live for the rest of my life, I want to grow old and die happily. I don’t want to see any of my family die one by one and I will be left alone.

“The Avabil that I know is still here.” He said with a smiled and messed up my hair.

I slapped his hand on my head and said, “I killed her a long time ago because that’s what I have to do. I used to be weak and cry baby. I don’t want everyone here to know what am I kind of person before, I want to leave an impression for them. This is also the reason why the Elders wants to kill me. I knew my ability since we were young and the former Elders said that I will become one of the Elders if I refused to become a Lady. I will live for a long time and that itself will be the reason why they have to obey me.”

“What do they want?” I said and I know he’s annoyed on what is happening in this world- in our family and clan.

“The legacy.”

“Huh? Isn’t that forbidden?” he asked in surprised.

I nodded my head, “Yes, so I have to stay alive but I also want to die at the right time.”

The two of us fell silent and no one wants to talk and this silence is what we love like before. I smelled the tea that my brother gave me and closed my eye and take a sip. I think I shouldn’t have done that.

“I need to cover up this mess if what you said is real, if this is really related to the Elder then we should keep our mouth shut. Being immortal is not good for those who had a black heart.” My elder brother said and I looked at him then he took his cellphone that is now ringing, “Maery come here.”

Later after the call a woman came in, a woman who just looked like her- Heal. I just looked at her calmly and then I realized that she’s not Heal. They almost identical that I thought she’s Heal but no, she’s not like the woman who almost kill me even if it’s imposible to kill me.

The woman in front of me bowed and said, “I’m Maery, Heal’s older sister. I’m sorry for what my little sister did to you. I didn’t expect her to be like this, I always advise her that she should do her best to be strong not to try to kill someone. I’m really sorry. If you want you can punish-”

“Punishment? Is that what you always think that a higher one will do? Is that what on your mind?” I said and my older brother and the woman named Maery looked at me. “Not because I’m at the top of hierarchy I need to punish those who commit a sin to me without even a proper trial. I have a right to punish anyone, yes, but I’m not that kind of person who will abuse someone just because I did not get what I want. Damn it.” I said and I did not speak anymore. I looked at my older brother and he was just shaking his head.

I frowned at my elder brother.

“Anyway, Maery. You are the head of the healer team and I want you to take care of everthing about this mess. If someone asked you about her, about Miss Lancaster’s matter tell them that she was healed by me because you did not mange because the injury was severe. Do you understand?”

“Pardon?”

“You saw what happened to her earlier, didn’t you?” my elder brother asked her and then she nod her head.

“Yes, I did saw her earlier. She was in a bad condition and it was a good thing that she was brought here right away. I don’t want this to happen again.” She answered.

“That is why I am asking you this. The academy is in my care and healing someone is part of my taika.” the woman could not believe but then eventually she accept the favor that my brother asked for because if not, my brother threaten her that he will expel Heal if she did not do what he asked for.

She left after the discussion and then he told me not to spread any word about what happened to me. This time there is only me, my elder brother and his creepy secretary is the only one who knew what happened before. Well, technically Heal knows about it too but I doubt if she would tell it to everyone. Those who witness what she did, well, I don’t know what my brother will do to them. Also, about my taika, it’s only between me and my brother. Taika that will everyone will want, a taika that is dangerous in the eyes of everyone.

My older brother sighed then he stood up and took the empty cup of tea and he poured it again.

“What happened to your cheek?” out of the blue I asked him.

I notice the scar before on his right cheek and now I can’t handle my curiosity and asked him. He did not answer until he sat down in front of me.

“This?” he said while holding his right cheek at the same time and I nodded, “I got it when the Elders tried to kill me.” he answered, I just nod at him but deep inside my heart I really do wanted to kil those Elders as soon as possible.

The broke my brother’s beautiful face! I really do want to break their neck!

“Why do they want to kill you? They have a very reason to kill me, but what’s yours? What’s they wanted to kill you?”

“Just like you, the reason is the same,” I looked at him. “But I’m not ready to tell you that yet. I’m sorry, Avabil.” He said with as sad face and I just nod my head.

What can I do if he doesn’t want to tell me, right?

I can’t force him if he doesn’t want to say it to me yet. I took the cup of the he gave me again and then I smelled it, I looked at him and then he smiled at me.

“As I thought,” he said and then my eyebrow furrowed. “The rose flavor and rose scent tea is what you love the most!” he exclaimed and I just let myself smiled. At least he still remembers my favorite one. “Anyway, is it really okay for you to attend your class tomorrow?”

“I’m not as weak as you are.” I commented.

He rolled his eyes and said, “Yes, okay, fine.” And he waves his hand. “I’m handsome though.”

“Wow, what a confidence.” I said and rolled my eyes at him. “I have to attend my class because there’s a pest who would not stop pestering me. Two pests.”

“Pest? Two?”

Even before I could speak, we heard a noise coming from the outside of the office and at the same time the door opened and the louder noise from outside earlier was now both in my ears.
