Chapter 64

Golem city, central part of the city, unlike the jungle which was having a huge storm, was relatively cool with wind blowing every now and then. The entire city was bright with many street lights to illuminate the darkness and particularly the Central part of the city was shining the brightest.

Though most of the Aristocratic manors were dark with people resting, there was one manor which stood out like a sore thumb. The entire manor was bright with people going in and out, some in carriages while others by walk.

The air was stifling inside the manor and the guards had an extremely serious expression on their face while the people in the manor shuttled back and forth from Carmella's room.

The place which was most tense however was Carmella's room as Carmella layed on her bed with a pale face and her strong body which was filled with vitality now lacked any semblance of it. The width of her body was rapidly shrinking as her entire being had become frail in a mere span of 14-15 hours.

An old aged man with bald head and gray hair sprouting from the sides was seen with a serious expression as he tried to cast another healing spell on Carmella who was getting more and more pale as minutes passed. There was a woman who looked to be in her 20's with gorgeous figure and luscious face sitting beside Carmella in a chair while holding her hands. Though she looked both mature and sexy, it did not ignite such a feeling but rather invoked pity and sadness to the onlookers as the woman had her eyes swollen from crying.

This woman was Mary Rothschild and she was Carmella's mother. A man who looked like in mid thirties had his back against the wall while looking gloomy but not heart broken like Mary. He had a healthy wheat skin with hair flowing down till his shoulder and had a handsome look to his face despite his current serious attitude.

This man wore a dark blue robe exuding the aura of a patriarch of a big clan. This man was Redmond Rothschild, the current patriarch of the Rothschild family. After hearing the news about Carmella, he and his second wife who is also the mother Carmella had come from Delmont city where the headquarters of Rothschild family reside. This Delmont city was only a few hours north of Golem city making it possible for the husband and wife to reach their daughter's mansion in just a few hours.

Beside Redmond stood the butler who took care of Carmella as well as the head shadow guard who protects the mansion. The butler explained everything from the time when Carmella fell ill to the gradual deterioration of her health until the arrival of the healing priest. He also explained in detail about the people who came in contact with Carmella for the past 24 hours.

Listening to all this Redmond first suspected whether a spy of second Prince had entered Carmella's mansion and had poisoned her but quickly rejected the idea as it would not help the second Prince in any way apart from revenge for helping Cornelia and the first Prince. Even if he does send an assassin he would only do it after he wins the war against the first Prince.

Redmond kept playing possible enemies who would target his daughter only to come up empty as even the enemies he had gotten due to clan business or regular clash amongst rival clans, no one would dare to target the younger generation. This was the unwritten rule amongst nobility as this would destroy any future hopes of every clan.

Thinking up to this his mind was blank as he only had a bit of sadness for the way his daughter's life is about to end but quickly gathered his thoughts and left to quickly consolidate the assets belonging to Carmella in order to quickly set her replacement which he planned it to be his second daughter who was birthed by him with his first wife.

It was not like he did not have feelings for his daughter but he had already lost two of his sons and he was used to this kind of loss which was pretty much common in noble clans.

Just as he worked late that night to set the guild's affairs straight along with his assistant the butler hurriedly walked inside his office and called Redmond to the room where Carmella layed saying that she was in her last breath.

Sighing with a small amount of pain in his heart Redmond walked towards the room. He had already asked the shadow guard to investigate the person who was behind this attack on his family but it was already too late for Carmella as the poison was vicious and lethal and was almost irreversible once ingested.

Redmond entered the room in a heavy mood as he watched his daughter who was almost emancipated in a mere half day with only very little suppleness to her skin and her eyes and cheek got so thin that her skull was starting to be visible and her entire face turned bone like. With extreme difficulty she turned her face to look towards the MN who entered the room and the corner of her eye was blurry with miniscule amount of tears as if knowing that she was about to die.

Her eye could not conceal the fear of death and pain in her body as she reached out her hand to stroke her mother's head but froze half way and fell on the bed as her eye gradually closed taking her last breath.

Seeing this her mother fainted from depression and exhaustion and Redmond had his shadow guard carry her back to her room while sighing and had the butler make arrangements for her funeral.

At this very moment in the jungle Sean along with Cornelia had just started riding the KTM bike at full speed in order to put as much distance as possible from the area where the carriages were.

The mercenaries had already received the news regarding the gravity of the situation each took off in one direction as if their life depended on it while praying that the mage doesn't choose to hunt them first.

Just as they ran, each in one direction their badges buzzed before it cracked turning into dust. There were various codes given through the badges for different level of communication, but on its base the badges were created through contract between the soul of two groups.

Each contract is created through special parchments created by mages which connects the contractor (Cornelia) and employee (Mercenaries) and this binding occurs in soul level and a badge is created as a way to easily facilitate communication through such contract.

In case any mercenary dies, the contract drawn by the contractor will get destroyed as a means to prove that such mercenary had died while if the badge gets destroyed it means that either the contract has been destroyed by the contractor or that the contractor has died.

With there being not a possibility for the former every mercenary under the payroll of Cornelia came to an understanding that their employer had passed away.

Sean looked at the broken badge while driving his KTM at a speed of 100 kms as he made a sharp cut past a tree while rain spraying at his visor of the helmet while the image of Lucy flashed in his mind and chuckled as if Cornelia's death had nothing to do with him and thought 'Though I ain't a good person, I for one hate betrayers and backstabbers. The only result of a betrayer is death' as he rode past a sharp rock using it like a trampoline and made a jump past a ditch and rode at a constant high-speed.
