Chapter 67

Dolby Inn, one of the most famous inns in the Gurney city was filled with men and women who were mostly mercenaries passing by the city to complete their taken up missions.

From outside one could hear the fights, laughter, brash and uncouth talks from local mercenaries without any ounce of etiquette which every nobles would expect. That's the reason why people of noble background, usually from medium to large sized clans never take missions but own a team or a guild depending on their financial background and have their employees take up the jobs.

Sean and Cornelia entered the Dolby Inn not only to rest and stay for the night but also find out information about the recent issues and rumours which were prevalent within the route they were taking.

Sean was quite surprised that Cornelia seemed to be perfectly fine with the environment they were surrounded in. There were men without wearing any clothes on their top getting drunk in cheap beers. The tables were filled with food, beer spilt and some worse ones had started puking in a bucket given by the bartender.

The women wore loose robes and some only with cloth strips covering their breasts giving a free show of their cleavage. The men and women showed full display of their scars which they had obtained during the course of the missions. Some women were coquettish as they sat on the laps of their team leaders and some bar maids were all over the various alpha males eager to spend a night with them.

Though this scene seemed not particularly suited to the tastes of the nobles, every mercenary would be used to this scene as most would visit inns like these as they are the ones which would have lots of information via grapevine and also are cheaper as they would not be able to sustain and curtail the cost if they went to bigger restaurants for better environment.

Soon a bar woman came towards their table which was located at the back of the Inn near the back door. There was no strategy for picking this table apart from being located near the exit and the table being quiet and isolated from all the other tables, a perfect place for listening to information quietly.

Once the bar maid arrived at their table, Sean took the initiative to order dishes for both himself and Cornelia who was currently wearing a cloth to cover her face. Ordering a beef stake to satiate their hunger and regenerate energy Sean and Cornelia placed their attention to the nearby tables to see if they could hear anything interesting.

Meanwhile within Carmella's manor, Redmond sat in the office of his daughter while looking at the shadow guard who was reading the reports of recent events and actions which his daughter had taken.

Knowing that one of such action could have been the reason for his daughter's demise made Redmond scrutinise every detail on an extensive note. Finally his eye zeroed in on two operations which were not part of any contract nor was it present on any report made by the Mercenaries on completion of mission but rather looked like filled by his daughter herself.

Perusing the document Redmond frowned as he saw the information regarding Cornelia's mercenaries slaughtering the VIP guests of Sapphire restaurant while the other mission was something that shocked Redmond to his core.

The girl who followed Carmella, Lucy's death was mentioned in the report. It counted the details regarding Lucy's assassination which was plotted by his daughter. Just then Redmond eye zoned in on a name 'Sean Walker'. Seeing his name mentioned in two different documents and each being a shady mission Redmond decided to investigate him a bit and ordered the shadow guard to do the same.

The shadow guard just nodded his head and placed another document before Redmond. This was the investigative report they had submitted to Carmella before deciding to recruit Sean. It contained his background and also contained the fact that he had won the entrance examination combat tournament. It also contained his power level to only be a level 3 warrior.

The more Redmond read the profile of Sean Walker the more he frowned. Looking towards the shadow guard he asked "Is this all?".

"No clan head. Sean Walker once defeated Liliana in a close combat and had also killed a level 6 and a level 7 warrior who were presumed to be death squad assassins despatched to infiltrate into the mercenary group".

Listening to this Redmond frowned even more. In his opinion a level 3 warrior winning the entrance test combat examination is already a surprise much less defeating level 6 or level 7 warriors, assassins who have tons of experience in killing as well. There was only one thought in his mind 'There must be more to this Sean Walker than what is written in the report. But then why are shadow guards much less my greedy daughter not mentioned any of this in the report nor have they taken him into custody?. Then there is this slaughter inside the Sapphire restaurant.' No matter how Redmond thought about this he found it strange that Carmella ordered such a dangerous and crazy mission.

There was one more thing which confused Redmond that was the reason why Carmella had assassinated Lucy who was her right hand. Even though he had known that Carmella was wary of Lucy's power control in her guild, if it was him Redmond thought he wouldn't have tried to kill Lucy. He also felt that it was the same for Carmella as he felt she was both reasonable and intelligent in her decisions.

With this thought process he looked at the shadow guard and asked "How did this Sean Walker do during the slaughter mission and how did he fight against the level 6 and level 7 death squad assassins?".

"He did his job well and efficient normally. In the slaughter mission he used a crossbow like weapon to kill the VIPs in the Sapphire restaurant and beat the two assassins in close quarter combat".

"Wait!! What do you mean by crossbow like weapon. These are VIPs we are talking about. There were many level 6 and level 7 warriors amongst them. They are not newbies we are talking about. How did he kill them using crossbow. To my knowledge unless you are a Mage of Rank 1 minimum it's not practical for anyone to kill warriors at Level 6 and 7 like they are chicken. Plus I don't know any crossbow that could kill a vigil level 5 warrior much less warriors who are above that stage. How did this weapon look like. Show me" said Redmond.

The shadow guard drew and showed it to Redmond which garnered his full attention which turned into shock and asked

"Don't you find it weird while looking at the thing you drew. There are no weapons present in this shape and the way you described it is ground breaking. This type of weapon could create a monopoly in the market having all large families fight for it including the royal family. Why aren't you reacting. Why haven't you guys caught him and placed him in custody. If we have this type of weapon mass produced amongst our family we could be the next superpower family in Arcadia kingdom" just as he started shouting at the shadow guard and finding it weird he stopped halfway and felt a chill run down his spine.

Stopping his breath Redmond asked the shadow guard asked "Hey do you remember how this Sean Walker looked like. Can you describe him?".

The shadow guard seemed to think and tried to describe him only to find himself unable to do so making Redmond's face grim as well as the shadow guard's face confused.

Releasing his breath Redmond asked the shadow guard to take Sean's brother who seemed to be training in the same academy into custody and also send a team to Shell city inorder to take Sean's family as prisoners to create leverage against him.

By the time Redmond arrived at this idea it was just past midnight and just as he was visualising about the possible success in near future when he obtains these weapons the entire mansion shook and its structure broken-down catching fire. The entire mansion was caught up in an explosion and almost everyone within the mansion died before they could realise what had happened while those who stood outside got thrown by the power of blast.

Some were grievously injured while others escaped with mild injury but this was only restricted to those who stood as security outside the mansion while every single person within the mansion died. The power level of warriors did almost no justice to them as whether mortal or a level 11 warrior who was the clan head Redmond died albeit Redmond died a more painful death compared.

The blast rocked the entire central part of the city as almost everyone in the area was alarmed by the huge sound and shockwave created by it. This included the three main families which ruled the Golem city as they sent the enforcement squad to the mansion for rescue and investigation of the blast.

Meanwhile Sean was completely clueless about the fact that he had escaped a potential disaster because of Lucy's handiwork and was eating his beef jerky with his ears open to see if he could get any interesting info from the nearby Mercenaries.
