Project Ends

I was standing at the counter to collect the order to serve my last table and my shift would end thankfully. I was hoping to collect some more money this week, so I decided to call the Drivers Garage.

"Umm, Hey George I was wondering if you could use some extra hand today?" I inquired in the phone.

"Hi, Yeah I think you could come for 2 hours, you could come here in what time?" He asked hurriedly. "I'll be there in, umm, an hour I guess?" I replied. "Okay come here then," George said.

Sighing I placed phone in my pants' pocket. I took the plate from the counter and walked to the table to place it. "Enjoy," I said with a smile on my face, then walking away. I looked at the clock to see the time. Seeing it was already 5 I changed out of the apron and made my way towards a table to wait for Jason as he was to come at some time by now.

I opened my report on the table and made all the main points I had gathered yesterday in the hospital on the note pad I had. It was already 5:30 but he was not here yet. I had to go to garage in more 30 minutes, so I decided to call him finally.

"hey, " I said in the phone, as he picked up the phone. "Who is this?" the receiver asked.

"Well, maybe you forgot it is 5:30 and we were to meet up at 5 to complete our project. You remember who is this ?" I asked furiously. "Oh, I am so sorry. It's already 5:30? I dozed off really. Be there in 5. Just wait a bit more." he said hurriedly. Groaning I ended the call. I sat there working on my assignments. After exactly 5 minutes I heard the bell ringing signaling someone was here so I looked up to see a very disheveled Jason walking in. He looked at me and started making way towards me.

"I'm so sorry Alice I really didn't mean to make you wait. I just dozed off after my practice that I didn't know what the time was." he said explaining himself. "Look, I would love to listen your stories but I don't have that much time right now. I have to go somewhere so please just complete it as soon as possible." I said giving him a stink eye. "Oh, okay." He said sitting on the chair opposite me.

"Well, here is the stuff I have collected and have made a report on,"  I said handing him the notepad. We sat there doing our work for about half an hour. And I guess we were kinda done so I said " Jason, I'm so sorry but I really have to be somewhere now. You can take the notes now and send me the report on the phone whenever you are finished or let me know whatever is to be done so that I could do that? Is that okay? Would not be much of the bother for ya?" I asked him standing up.

"Umm, it's okay. " he said standing up and gathering the material "I guess, I would text you later when I'm done with it?" He said looking at me now. "Okay, bye !" I said waving at him and going out of the cafe.

It was about 8 when I was done with the work in the garage so I decided to grab some food and then go check on mom. I made my way to grab the sandwiches from a nearby food stall. After grabbing my food I was on my way to the hospital.

I was in the hospital after 10 minutes of the walk. "Hi, Alicia." Ms. Jones said, she is one of the nurses that take care of my mom and one of few people I can talk with . "Hey, Ms. Jones " I replied giving her a polite smile. "Going to visit your mom?" she asked giving me a sad smile.

"yes," I said. "oh okay, be on your way then," she said walking away with her ointment trolley.

I knocked at my mom's door and opened it to find her sitting on the bed with a book in hand.

"Good evening mom," I said giving her a small smile . She looked up from her book and said, "Hey baby, how are you doing?" she said cheerfully well as much as she could muster up in her condition."I'm fine mom, how are you feeling today?" I asked her "I'm doing just as fine."

I asked her about her routine and told her about all the things I did today , well almost all the things. We continued to talk for hours till it was time for her to sleep. "Take care mom, I'll be off to dorm now. I'll be back tomorrow, yeah?" I asked her kissing her forehead. "yes baby. Take care" she said yawning.

I made my way towards my dorm room and opened it . I did my routine took a bath and changed in my old pajamas. I was about to fall asleep when my phone rang. "Hello?" I said in the phone without noticing the caller's I'd. "Hey, you are not busy, are you?" The voice asked uncertainly. "Umm ,no." I replied now focusing on the voice "Good, I have completed the project so I thought I can just give it to you in the morning." Jason said. "okay, Anything else?" I asked yawning. "Not much I just didn't have much to do so I thought I could check on you?" he replied hurriedly. "Well, umm, I'm okay" I replied kind of uncertain. Then he started telling stories about his practice and upcoming matches. I again yawned. "Hey you listening?" he asked. " uhh, yeah I'm." I said nodding absentmindedly. Until I dozed off.

"Alice you listening ?" Jason asked. " I guess, Good night," Jason said before ending the call.
