Hospital

I decided to go to hospital to check on mom after Damon went back home.

I was walking slowly humming to myself when I felt my phone buzz in my hand.

I unlocked it to see a message from an unknown number.

'You reached home?' It read.

I looked at the phone screen for few seconds when I realized it must be Damon.

'Yeah, just at the footstep,' I responded and saved the number with his name, 'Idiot boxer'. Now I think it should be creative. I thought recalling Damon's previous encounter.

I placed my phone back in my bag now, and started making my way to the hospital.

I walked in the hospital to see usual people sitting here and there, some people sitting on chairs waiting for the doctor or for some news maybe.

I kept walking till I reached my mother's room and peeked into it slowly to find mom still sleeping.

I quietly shut the door again and looked for a nurse to ask her about her condition.

I walked a little ahead to see a nurse on duty and asked her, "Umm, excuse me ?"

She looked up from the medicines she had in her hands, "Yes," she said giving me a questioning look.

"Uh, Miss. Walters was brought from ER in the afternoon, could you please tell me how she is doing now?" I said nervously.

She nodded her head in understanding.

"She must be feeling weak right now that's quite normal for a luekemic patient. But we have given her some vitamins and analgesics so she has been sleeping due to their effect for a while," she completed in a professional tone.

"did she wake up before?" I again asked her. "Yeah for a little bit, " she again answered.

I nodded my head in appreciation, "Thank you," I said with a small smile.

The nurse nodded and moved away. I looked at her retreating back and started to move myself with a dejected face to mom's room where I was gonna spend my night.

I opened the room and saw the white colored walls of the small room mom have been living in for past two years.

Sighing I placed a chair near her bed and placed my bag on small sofa that was placed in the room.

I sat on the chair looking at her weak body. I wish I could tell her about the acceptance letter. I could tell her about my problems. But I can't burden her. I thought and shook my head to clear my head.

I suddenly saw my phone sitting in my lap so I took it and opened my front camera to take some pictures with mom. So I would always have something to see whenever I'm not around her. We used to take a lot of them when she was home with me.

We both used to go shopping, picnics and had birthday parties every year even when dad was not around. She made sure I had all of them even when it was hard to make ends meet she did that for me.

I took her weak hand in mine and placed a small peck on it. "Thanks mom," I murmured.

I was lost in my thoughts looking at my mom when I heard vibration of my phone in my lap.

Startled I looked at it to see Jason's name flashing on it. I slowly placed mom's hand on the bed and covered her with blanket, and made my way out of the room.

"Hey," I said in a whispering voice.

"Hi," Jason responded in the same gushed voice.

"What's up?" I asked him in dim voice.

"Nothing much, I just saw a girl on my way back to home, she seemed a lot like you," he told me whispering.

"Is that so?" I asked. "Yeah, she was running though, I thought as if it were you." He said.

I tried comprehending his words when I recalled Damon and me running after him.

But did not bother mentioning it now. It could be anyone else who knows.

"Oh okay," I said nonchalantly. "You ain't at dorm?" He asked suddenly .

"Umm, no?" I said but it seemed more like a question. "I figured."he claimed in a victorious voice.

"How?" I said in a dim voice again strong not to disturb all the patients around me.

"Oh, it's just that you are talking in a gushed manner that you usually don't, so where are you?" He asked me calmly.

I tried finding a place where I could be, but could not. I did not have friends and he knew that. I didn't have relatives.

"You there?" Jason's voice brought me back from my world.

"Oh, yeah" I trailed off " So, I--I uh " I said trying to think of something.

"I came to visit my mom," I said it hastily. "Ok," Jason answered in a confused voice. "You are home then?" He asked.

"Yeah, yeah I'm " I said nodding to myself.

I don't know why but I was feeling anxious suddenly.

Jason maybe felt that because he did not brought that in discussion again. And started to tell me about his practices and asked me about my day like he usually used to do.

"So you coming school tomorrow right?" He asked me after awhile.

"I think so," I said thinking.

"I have got something to tell you, "he said in somewhat excited tone now.

"Okay," I told him shrugging. "Alright then, see you tomorrow," he said and hung up the call.

I looked at the phone wide eyed, "bye," but then again I thought about the thing he could have to tell me. "He must have some assignment or something to take care of, who knows." I shrugged and moved in the room to see mom still sleeping soundly.

I moved ahead a little bit and took out the envelope from my bag and started looking at it intently.

I was busy looking at the crumbled piece of paper that I did not realize mom was awake already.

"What's this?" I heard her timid voice.
