First Day

I took a deep breath before stepping out of the taxi that I had hailed to come to the campus from bus station. I looked at the watch I had on my arm and saw it was already 2 in noon.

"Here I come." I said pulling my suitcase after me. I had my bag on my shoulder that had all my books and other stuff that I could not place in my suitcase.

I looked around to find a lot more students walking by. Some of them had their luggage with them all looked nervous and excited, though many of them were moving comfortably with their bags slung on their shoulders or notes in hands.

I looked at the high trees whose leaves were starting to fall now, as it was the beginning of winters here.

I could not think of any way to the dorm. So I started looking around dumbfounded.

Finally, I saw a girl with high heels and beautiful pinkish knee length dress. She had her straight jet black hair flowing down her back.

"She seems to know the way." I mumbled as I saw her wheeling her suitcases behind her to the right side of where I was standing right now.

So I decided to follow her and see where she was headed.

We kept on walking, more like me following her anyways we reached a high building with heaven-kissing pillars adoring it.

"Wow, it sure is splendid." I stared at the building in front of me.

I blinked few times getting hold of myself. I saw around to find the girl, but she was nowhere around me.

"Fuc**," I cursed to my own self. I moved the hair out of my eyes those have fallen out of my bun.

I calmed myself and again started to observe around me when I realized I was already standing in front of dorm building. I saw few more students with suitcase in hands that gave me a little bit of mental support.

I climbed the few stairs it had in front of it. I entered the building to see few staff members sitting around in the large hall with students going to them to get their assigned rooms.

I walked and stood in the long line of students who were already waiting for their turns.

"Hey, I'm Mellissa." Girl standing ahead of me said turning to me with a beautiful smile. I let my eyes move over her shiny bright green eyes, button nose and soft smile.

"I'm Alicia." I responded with a smile. If her smile could brighten even more it did.

"What major are you doing?" She asked me.

"Medical." I told her simply. She clapped her hands eagerly.

"I'm here for Photography. It's so lovely to meet you." She offered me her hand. That I took happily. I did not wat to be left out now. I want to make friends and a lot of them this time.

It was finally her turn and she showed ,the lady sitting there, her documents. After receiving her key she moved back. I saw her going out.

"Documents?" Teacher asked me looking down at the notes not bothering to look at me. I gave her the documents I had printed from the mail Principal had sent me.

She looked at them and then started searching my name on her list and then ticked off my name.

I saw her entering my information in the computer.

"You can sign here," she pointed at the end of a page. I did as I was told.

"Here are your keys. And you can receive your timetable from the office over there." She pointed to other side.

"Alright, thanks." I said and grabbed my keys and documents she had given me back . I started walking to the office. I saw that it was less crowded than outside. I sighed and went to a guy in his late-twenties.

"I'm here for my schedule." I said showing him my documents. He took them from me and went through them for a minute or two.

"Alicia Walters, Major Medicine, right?" He asked typing on the computer.

"Yeah," I affirmed. He printed out a schedule and handed it to me with a small smile on his face.

"Here, have a good time."

I nodded and took the schedule from him. I walked out of the building trying to see around. I was about to move back in when I heard.

"Alicia?" I turned to see Mellissa waving at me feverishly. I started walking to her.

"I was waiting for you. You got your dorm room?" She asked me.

"Yeah, I did." I told her and again started looking around.

"Umm, can you help me find the room? actually I don't know where to go." I said looking anywhere but her.

"Of course I can, I had a tour here before coming. So I know where to go." She said linking her arm with mine. I smiled at her and started following her in the room.

"Show what is your room number." She asked moving in the  hallway.

"Here," I said showing her the slip I was given. "You are in room number 356?" She yelled excited.

"Umm, yeah?" I asked her confused.

"Oh my God, we are in the same room!" She yelled excitedly.

"I just found my best friend on my first day!" She shouted in overly excited tone. She reminded my of Damon a lot with her enthusiasm.

That reminded me his words.

"Let me know when you reach there." I recalled.

I decided to call him when I settled in my new room. Mellissa kept on checking the numbers on the rooms and after our search for 15 minutes we came in our room.

I saw a room with three beds and a small bathroom attached to it, it was still bigger than the one I had back in school. Melissa threw herself on the big fluffy bed on the right side. So I opted for the left one and placed my bag on other side of it.

"We are going to have another roommate?" I asked her eyeing the empty bed.

She nodded her head and said thoughtfully.

"Seems like that."

She stretched and stood up.

"Why don't we freshen up, then go find something to eat ?" She patted her belly.

I chuckled at that and nodded. I was about to Lie down when I heard my phone ringing.

Melissa motioned me to pick the phone and entered the bathroom herself.

I saw Damon's number flashing o the screen. I grinned at that instantly, and picked up the call.

"Helloo!" I answered enthusiastic.

"Wow, you are especially happy today. " he declared with a smile in his tone.

"I'm," I said nodding to myself.

"Any particular reason?" He asked amused.

"Umm," I thought for few seconds, "Not really, it's just that I feel a weight has been pulled off my shoulders."

"That's a great thing, I guess?" He asked. I nodded at this, then I realized that he could not see me, so I said, "Yes it is."

He then started asking me about my journey. I told him about that, after all half of it went in me sleeping.

I told him about Melissa as well. He sounded happy about that.

"Let James know I reached safely and tell him I think I will pull through this just as he said." I said in phone with a smile on my face.

"I will, oh I asked my friend about your job. He said that he will help you, so you should meet with him whenever you are free."

"Thank you so much!" I excitedly answered him.

I saw Melissa coming out with her white blouse and a skinny jeans. And her face washed now.

I signaled her to wait for a minute.

"Damon, I gotta go. I will talk to you later." I told him

"Okay, Take care." He said and hung up.

I heard the phone ringing within seconds. I opened the messages to see that Damon had sent me address and name of his friend. I sent him a smillie in response.

And looked up at Mellissa who had a knowing smile on her face.

"Is he your boyfriend?" She asked coming to sit on the bed with a huge smirk on her face.

"Wow, first day and the start of gossips." I mumbled to myself watching her with a nervous gaze.
