"So... what are we doing here?" The girl questioned me as soon as her oxygen mask was connected.
"That's none of your business," I replied, starting toward where I figured the old temple would be. We trekked for miles, winding our way around craters in the rocky environment. She talked and talked and talked. I learned way more about her than I needed to know, but never her name. I came to the conclusion that she didn't have one, being a street rat.
After about an hour, she finally stated that she was thirsty. By then I was convinced she had no sense of thirst, but apparently I was wrong. I handed her a canteen, which she drank from for almost a full minute. Once she was done, I started to continue, and she started talking again.
"How do you still have something to talk about?" I snapped. She shut her mouth quietly, and I kept walking.
"You brought me along," she called after me. I didn't stop. "Why did I ever decide to come along with this jerk?" She pretended like she was talking to someone else. I brushed it off. 'I don't even want her here,' I reasoned. 'She'll find her way back.'
"You're right," she kept faking a conversation. "Who leaves someone to die in the desert? He's such a bi..." At this I was on top of her, strangling her to the ground. She tried to scream, call out for help, anything, but all that came out was a pathetic whimper.
"You don't know who you talk to, child!" My voice grew deep and slightly mechanical. If the girl's eyes weren't already widened, they were now. She suddenly came to the unconscious realization of who he was. He was the Lotharien prince.
I never wavered. I didn't move a muscle until she was unconscious. My hands gripped her throat, My fingernails digging deep and drawing blood. Her face kept changing color, first pink, then red, then an unnatural shade of purple, before she finally exhaled for the last time. I stood and rolled her body over the edge of a deep crater with my feet. She fell, half rolling down the side of the crater. I could hear bones cracking against the stones her body collided with.
Once her body was stationary at the bottom of the pit, I pulled out my gun and fired four shots. Two hit her, one in the neck and the other in her chest.
I retreated, continuing unphased in the direction of my bounty.
To be continued.....
