You, A Disappointment?

They kept talking for another hour before Eden needed to go. "Listen, I should probably go do some cleaning now but I'm glad I was able to talk to you. I can't wait to see you tomorrow."

"Me either," Jonah said half-truthfully, though the guilt of the half-lie part threatened to consume him. "Goodnight, Eden. See you tomorrow."

"See you!" she said cheerfully before signing off.

He sighed. He would be seeing her tomorrow but she wouldn't be seeing him. And he wanted to see her smile so badly it hurt but it would be hard knowing it should be directed at him but was actually aimed at someone else.

Thinking about how convoluted this was giving him a headache. When had his life become such a mess? Things weren't supposed to be like this.
