The next morning.
Damon woke up in a grassy city park.
A man in a black tech jacket stood over him.
"What's your name man?" he asked.
His head was hooded, with straps that swung around his legs and arms. He squatted forward, holding his two gloved hands on his knees. He looked at Damon, his bored relaxed face, as he laid out on the grass, half asleep.
"Hey man, what's your name?" he asked again.
Damon didn't answer. The hooded man got slightly pissed. He jumped from his squat, sending a flying kick across the air and right into Damon's face.
Smack!
Damon woke up from his half-asleep snooze. He looked at the hooded man above him, he felt his bruised face, his bleeding nose.
"Ummmmm..." he watched as the blood poured all over his suit and onto the grassy field.
"Are you awake now?" taunted the hooded man.
"M-m-m-my suit!"
"What? It's already covered in blood."
He looked at his blood-covered suit. He remembered what happened the night before. He remembered the gas when he put himself to sleep. He remembered the feeling of being transported all through the night.
He sat up in the blood-covered grass, his blood-covered grey suit contrasting the colorful park around him. Children playing in the trees, people walking their dogs, runners running their runs. He looked at the stranger in front of-
Slap!
The stranger slapped him across the face, his bloody nose stopping on the impact.
"What did you do that for?" asked Damon, not reacting to the hit.
"You have a really good pain tolerance."
"I know I do..."
The man in the hooded tech jacket looked at Damon's tired eyes. Damon replied by looking back at his straight and narrow eyes, like a stone-cold killer, he had a purpose, a goal.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"The names Damon."
The hooded man held out a small flipped-out badge, with an emblem of a Pegasus on it.
"Check your pockets. You got one on it too. It has your name on it. You see mine."
He pointed at his two-syllable name.
"I'm Bryan."
He quickly flipped his badge away. As Damon reached into his old suited pocket, pulling out a badge of the same size and look.
"Cool..."
Damon stood up in the brightly colored morning field. He looked in every direction. He saw the massive river on the right side of the park, and the big city on the left side.
He looked at the sun.
"What am I doing here?" he asked.
"We survived the second test and this is the third one. Now we gotta complete a task to officially get into the organization. Right now we're trainees. Then after this, we'll be getting points and eventually whoever gets the most points becomes the sixth Immortal. It's some triangle-type shit, but hey, it pays, and I might be able to get some sweat immortal powers."
"I should get in contact with Aira," he said out loud, ignoring Bryan's long explanation.
"Aria? Is that your friend?"
"Yes..."
Damon reached into his pocket again, but instead of pulling out the badge, he pulled out a small flip-phone.
"Aria's number should be on here."
He tried calling.
Ring-ring-ring-ring!
Silence...
"Dude she didn't pick up."
Damon looked down in confusion, "yeah I can see that... But what could she be doing? Where is she?"
Bryan slowly wrapped his arm around Damon's shoulder.
"Duhhh... She's either dead or she's too busy doing this test. I had to wait half an hour for you to wake up. But hey it's all ok. You got me now. We're a pair of a pair. A duo of a duo. My new compadre."
Damon turned wiping Bryan's arm off his shoulder, "I don't even know you."
---
Five minutes later.
"So there are Five True Immortals?" asked Damon as he sat on a bench next to Bryan, the two looking out over the river.
"Yup. Five True Immortals. But in a week from now, they're gonna pick a Sixth Immortal. That's why so many guys showed up at the test, they all want a piece of this action, and now only fifty remain... But shouldn't you know this crap?" He turned to Damon, his faze glazed and lost in the flowing water, "dude do you live under a rock or something? Everybody knows this stuff... Oh, wait! Do you have amnesia! Is that why you were sleeping? No way-"
"No. I've just lived in a small town for the last hun... For the last many many years. But..." He yawned, "ahhhhh! Let's just get going, I'm ready to get this shit over with."
"Same."
They both got up and started walking down the riverside.
"Where are we going?" asked Damon as he strolled past the running joggers, with his hands in his pockets.
Bryan pulled out his phone. He pulled up a map of the city. A bleeping blip or red. He pointed to a tall tower.
"We got a message earlier. Our first target is a guy named Demitri Borodin. He's a top agent from a rival organization called the Witch Hunters. The guy is an Ex-Russian Soldier, so he's super tough, but to make matters worse, he's an Ice Witch," explained Bryan.
"Ice Witch...?"
Damon was constantly getting confused by all these new Witches and powers that keep coming from thin air.
"Don't tell me you don't even know what a Witch is?"
"No, I know what a Witch is... But... All these Witches..." He looked at Bryan's hooded face, his short black hair that dangled into small moist strands, "Bryan, what Witch are you?"
"Me?! Well, I shouldn't tell you this, but..." He smirked, "since we're good buds now, I'll tell ya. I'm a Dark Witch."
