Chapter 3: The Story of Liam

Chapter review:

I was about to go to sleep when my phone started ringing. It was Sherry!

"Hello."

"Hey, I was wondering if-" I was interrupted by a scream.

"Sherry? Are you okay? What happened? I then saw an ambulance zoom past me. I quickly went to where Sherry was. Her arm was in the middle of the street severed from her body.

"Sherry? Can you hear me?

" Go back….Go"

"Go where?" But she didn't hear me. The EMT's were already putting her on a stretcher.

"Are you her guardian?

"Uh yeah."

"Get in." I climbed in the Ambulance and all of a sudden, it seemed so familiar yet different. We entered the hospital and they told me to wait outside in a room. After almost an entire day passed, The doctor came out and informed me that they could not reattach her arm in place. She was in a room, lying down sleeping.

"Sherry? Please don't leave me, I need you here with me." I don't know how much time has passed, but I was crying, distraught, and worrying about Sherry. After an hour or so, I dozed off. I was asleep, but as soon as my eyes closed, I felt a cold gaze. I looked up and saw Sherry looking down on me with an ice-cold stare.

I thought it was all a dream and knew that Sherry didn't wake up yet, so that wasn't possible. For some reason, Sherry wasn't waking up yet. The doctor came in and had a sad look on his face.

"Liam?"

"Yes, I'm Liam."

"We did not know this could happen, but it seems she is not waking up."

"Why is this happening, Doctor?"

"She could have something on her mind or something that is not letting her wake up. Or, she just chooses not to wake up into this world."

"But, Doctor, that is not like Sherry."

"I would like to stick around, but I must go make my rounds." Now, I decided to leave and go back home. I call a taxi, and the taxi driver takes me home.

"Young lad, you okay? You look as if there is something on your mind."

"Actually, my girlfriend got into an accident. She's In the hospital and I don't know if she'll wake up."

"Oh, that's horrible." I was going through notifications on my phone and I noticed a number that I didn't recognize texted me. It read,

"You have three days left." I knew who it was, so I texted back,

" Please, can I leave after my girlfriend is awake? I want to make sure she is alright."

"A deal is a deal, Liam, you have promised me." I was going to reply, but I thought, "You know what? I'm staying. I'm not going back."

Two days later, I decided to check on Sherry in the hospital. Sherry was still asleep. I decided to get some water, so I grabbed a paper cup, got some water, and drop the cup. Sherry was sitting up in bed.

"Sherry! You're awake!"

"It's your final day, isn't it?

"What?"

"I'm warning you, don't try to run away from him."

"Sherry, how do you know about him?" Sherry didn't have time to answer. I felt a big headache, the lights flashed and when it all cleared up, he was there. Alexandre was there.

"C'est l'heure, Liam."

"No, NO! Why did you bring me back! I w-." A sharp pain was in my head. My memories from the last 3 months flashed by like a short film.

"I don't want to go."

"Ah, a real stubborn one. A deal is a deal, Liam."

"You know what? Screw you!" I dash as fast as I can to the hallway where the stairs and elevators are, but I couldn't get any further. With grunts and cries of frustration, I heard Alexandre approaching me. He grabbed by the collar, snapped, and threw me hard.

"Oof." I landed at the foot of Sherry's hospital bed.

"I warned you, if you would have listened to me, this wouldn't have happened," Sherry said coldly.

"Sherry, I wanted to stay with you!"

"Ah, but too late, Liam." I whipped my head around and saw him with a scythe as big as the Grim Reaper's ready to swing. I blinked, and I was low to the ground. I saw my body crumple to the ground and vanish into thin air. I didn't feel any pain, but I felt a warm teardrop roll down my cheek.

"NO! I'm not going to go like this!" But none of my cries worked. I felt my body seeping down into the center of the earth. I felt the hands of the people in the underworld pull me down. I saw Alexandre and Sherry look down on me like I was a vermin, a piece of trash, like a worthless soul...

"You're so mean to him," Allen said to Sherry.

"You were the one that told me to make sure he doesn't want to leave."

"Haha, I owe you one then."

What could Liam have done differently? How could his story be changed?

The End of Liam's story

A little peek...

I'm Rick. I'm 13 and I have a brother named Richard that's 16. I hate school. I was daydreaming looking out the window when the bell rang. I saw them, the bullies. Coming toward me, so I stayed in my seat.

I was staring out the window yearning to go out and play some soccer. Then all of a sudden, I saw Rick outside the window. For a second, I made eye contact with him, then he vanished. I looked out the window and quickly regretted doing so. I shut the window and asked to be excused. I rushed out the door to the bottom and clenched Rick's lifeless hand...
