Arrogance

"Woah! There are so many people signing up for the tournament! Luckily we had a class here so we are the first to sign up," Anne said.

"Yeah, with so many people signing up, I don't think we will be able to join if we need to get here first," Char agreed.

The tournament only has a limited slot and those without rank can also join, hundreds of groups join in the hope to get lucky with their enemy and reach the top 3.

If they got third place, then they will get one mana crystal, which is a fortune for someone on their level.

Even Char would be happy if could get his hand on a single mana crystal. As a commoner, he did not have enough money to buy one on his own.

His family was barely able to send him to school so there is no way he could ask them to buy resources for him.

"If only I can sell the magic circle I designed to others, then I can earn enough for mana crystals. Sadly, my credibility took a hit since I summoned a skeleton with my summoning circle," he lamented.

"Char, what level is your skeleton?" Anne suddenly asked.

"It's level 7, why?" he asked back since she asked him about it.

"The seniors also joined the fight. We will need to fight those at level 11 and above. Do you think we can win?" She asked him.

"As long as they are not in the top hundred, then I'm quite confident with my chance. How about you? Are you confident in beating them?"

"Of course I am! I was just worried about you," She grinned at him.

"You cheeky girl! Do you want me to show you how much I have improved?" he said jokingly.

"Look, the fight has been decided!" She pointed out at the rank board.

They replaced it with a tournament bracket. There were two hundred fifty-six teams joining the fight, so they will need to win nine fights to reach the final.

"Who is our opponent? Can you find our name?" Char asked the girl.

"Wait, there is too much name, if you are so free then help me look for it!" She replied.

It took them quite a bit to find their name, "I found it! We will be the third fight on arena number three!" Char informed her.

Because there was so much group, there will be eight fights going at the same time. Even then, the final and semi-finals will be held the next day.

"Who is our opponent?" She asked hurriedly, even if she said she was not afraid of fighting the seniors, but there was still a chance of losing.

"It's... Damn it! Our luck is really rotten!" Char cursed.

"What is it? Are we fighting our seniors? Are they in the top three hundred?" She asked him in worry.

"No! We are fighting against someone from our year!" he told her.

"Huh? Then why are you so afraid? It's not like you to back down before a fight," She looked at him in doubt.

"We are fighting someone from the elite class, and the best at that. We are fighting Robert Smalting!" he told her in frustration.

Dragons can fly and have high resistance to magic and fire, they are physically superior to most creatures at the same level, and worse, it's only their physical attribute!

The reason Char wanted a dragon was that it's, without doubt, one of the most broken summoned creatures.

Even without using its magic, it can beat those on the same tier with using its brute strength and resistance alone.

"Dragon magic is even worse! They have dragon might which double its physical attribute and dragon breath that can burn magic!" Char lamented.

"What is he doing in the tournament? He should have more than enough mana crystals, he doesn't need to fight for resources with us!" Anne got frustrated too.

"I don't know, I think he just wants to beat up some newbie since there is no rule that specifically said he can't join," Char shrugged.

"What do we do then? Should we just surrender?" Anne asked in hesitation.

"No, this is a good chance to know how strong is the best in our year. Moreover, I have a trump card. If we play it right then we might beat him," he said.

"Alright then, let's do this!" she got determined.

When their turn came, Char and Anne went to the arena, Robert was already there waiting with his teammate.

"Look what we have here! The former genus of the academy and his friend from the worst class! You really are unlucky to be matched against me!" Robert mocked them.

"Fight first before talking, let's talk with our skill, not with our mouth," Char coldly said.

"Skill? Do you think your skeleton can beat me? It can't even last a minute against my dragon!" he snorted.

"How about this! I will fight you two and your summons alone! My teammates will not join the fight, and I will not summon my dragon! If I surrender or summon my dragon, then it's my loss! How is that?" he added in arrogance.

Anne gritted her teeth and about to explode but Char held her down, "On what condition? What do you want in return?" he asked.

"If you still lose against me, then you will prostrate in front of me and be my dog for a month! Will you do it? Or are you afraid to fight against one of me while there are two of you?" Robert taunted.

"Fine! Let's fight! If I lose, then I will do as you say, but if you lose, don't go back on your word!" Char agreed.

"Char! Are you sure about this? Even without his dragon, his dragon magic is already very powerful!" Anne asked him.

"This is our best chance to beat them! Also, It's not like you to back down without fighting," he grinned at her.

They went to their position, waiting for the fight to start, "I will make you pay dearly for your arrogance!" Char thought as he decided to hold nothing back.
