The Guy in The Back

It is a nice autumn day in the state of California. It is the first day of school, and I just transferred to one of the top schools in the state, Gatenwood High. I am very excited to meet new people and have friends of my own, but the thing is, I am a very shy person. Meeting new people and having friends is not my forte but I guess in a new school, I should try to be a new me. So, I finished my breakfast, fixed myself to look cool, and my mom, she always reminds me to clean my eyeglasses because I always forget to clean them. "Don't forget to also comb your hair!", shouted my mom because I also forget to comb my hair. I rode the car with my dad who always takes me to school every day of every school year. "Excited for your first day?" asked my dad, I replied "Definitely, but still the shyness kicks around if you know what I mean, a-and m-my brain sometimes can't keep up w-with what I want to say". My dad told me, "It's going to be fine son, your classmates and teachers are going to like you especially when they discover that you are a very talented and gifted student", I replied, "Thanks dad."

And we drove to Gatenwood High. It has always been my dream to be able to attend this school. I almost felt like I am dreaming, but at the time that we have arrived, I was so excited to go in and just admire the building for its beauty and finally grasping my dream.

"I feel like it has always been my destiny to attend this school." I said to myself.

I looked at the bulletin board to find my name and what room I was to go to, and when I found it, I excitedly looked and found the classroom. I entered the room, and thought "Where would I sit?", I was debating in my head whether I will sit in one of the seats at the front or at the back. I told myself earlier that I want to be the new me, but it seems I can't, and my shyness kicked in forcing me to sit at the back, and also chose the chair in the corner. I was shivering while waiting because I am in a mix of frightened and excitement. My hands are shaking, well, my whole body is! Then our teacher came into the room, and I was shocked because of the loud bang of the door when he closed it.

"Hello freshmen, I will be your homeroom teacher, my name is Mr. Roberts, and I will also be your teacher in Mathematics. Now that I have introduced myself, it's time to meet my students of course! You will just say your name, say 3 of your hobbies and what are you looking forward to in this school year. We'll start off with you, Mr. the guy in the back corner."

And this is the part of the first day in school I hate most. Introducing yourself. And I'm actually the first one to do so today!

"U-uhm s-sir, m-me?" I asked.

"Yes you!" Mr. Roberts replied.

"O-ok s-sir." I answered.

So, I walked up to the front of the class beside the teacher's table, shivering and is very shy. I really hate myself for being shy, this happens every time!

"M-my n-name is S-Simmons, W-Walter S-Simmons, I am 15 y-years old, 3 of my h-hobbies are… Math, Science, and apparently v-videogames." I began.

"Which videogames do you play Walter?" someone from the class asked.

"I p-play RPG games, t-the characters t-there a-are t-the embodiment of w-what I am n-not. They a-are v-very courageous and I'm not." I replied.

And the whole class laughed. I can't say that I'm embarrassed, because I am just trying to be me in front of them.

"The thing I'm l-looking f-forward to is m-meeting you all, m-make n-new f-friends, and s-study as h-hard a-as I can." I continued.

"Okay, nice meeting you Walter. Give our friend here a round of applause." Mr. Roberts said.

The whole class applauded. And here I am, glad that it's all over. I hate to be there in front for longer. It's just I am so shy that I cannot speak straight. Afterwards, I wasn't paying attention to anybody speaking in front, except when it was the turn of the girl in front of me. She introduced herself to the class. I wasn't paying attention to what she was saying, all I can say is that I am out of breath admiring her beauty. After everybody introduced themselves, the bell rang, and it was time for lunch.
