The Path Down the Mountain

Effectively convincing his family, especially his elder brother and the Patriarch to allow him to descend the mountain and enter the unprotected world of mortals was difficult to say the least. If Lin Lanyu were to have asked at any other time, it would have most likely been followed by a swift denial.

Lin Shemu: "At the very least take a disciple along if you won't take a protector, though maybe we should send one of the elders along with you, that would insure that no one would be able to bother you. Plus then someone would be there to carry around your things."

The Demoted Elders: We cultivated for centuries and we are being demoted to carrying things around!

Lin Lanyu: "Uh-uh." Though the appeal of having someone around to carry his things weakened his resolve slightly, the zombie talismans would allow him to summon a servant anyway.

Putting on a pouting face which seemed to be overly effective on both his Eldest Brother and Grandfather. It once again proved its worth. Patriarch Lin felt as though he was going to keel over from the small pout on his precious little grandson's face. His heart ached, but he stood firm.

Patriarch Lin: "Fine! You may go hunting, but Elder Gao will have to accompany you!" Wait... what happened to be firm?

Patriarch Lin's face twisted as he was shocked by his own words.

Lin Lanyu: "Fine!" 'Nuna could we ditch this Elder Gao?'

Nuna: 'Eh, probably not if the Patriarch is allowing you to leave under his watch. We can practice secretly somehow, but maybe we will just use this as a small outing to run around for.'

Pushing a pouch of money into Lin Lanyu's hands. Patriarch Lin sent Lin Lanyu back to his residence to pack and leave before Matriarch Lin finds out and comes to beat the Patriarch black and blue. Elder Gao, being informed all of a sudden that he would have to leave his quiet cultivation corner and go accompany the Second Young Master almost went to beat the Patriarch himself. Rushing back to his residence to prepare Lin Lanyu takes a shortcut that included cutting through Lin Shemu's residence. 

The Flowering Groves of the Lin Sect was a place that held beauty in high esteem. It would be too unseemly if the First Young Master's residence was ugly, and so huge ancient trees blossomed over small stone ponds of koi fish. The high curving points of the rooves gave way to streams of light that reflected off the many streams gurgling quietly through the extensive palace.

Passing over the streams were beautiful ornate bridges which Lin Lanyu felt were straight out of a painting. Though the residence was private, Lin Shemu was known to often teach his juniors in the many courtyards of the palace and so it was not rare for many disciples to be wandering through the residence. Seeing him, many of them greeted Lin Lanyu respectfully each holding their own emotions towards the Second Young Master. Though he was a talented cultivator, many were also aware of Lin Lanyu's innocent beauty as well as his overall kind personality. So many of the disciples often idolized such a person, treating him with respect and reverence. Lin Lanyu being totally unaware of his own reputation, greeted many of them back with a small smile, thanking them for their hard word. Nuna however, was well aware that this was a perfect time to make Lin Lanyu have the aura of an immortal.

Nuna: 'Hey look at the cherry blossom isn't it pretty.' Yes look so brightly, make all those around you think that this is just where you are meant to be. Untouchable~!

Lin Lanyu: 'Yes they are but why are you only looking at those ones not the ones in our resi-'

Breaking his thought process he turned his head only to be met with a sharp impact on his face, already having to nurse the small bump from the door Lin Lanyu stumbled.

Nuna: I'm slightly worried that my host is going to have brain damage soon...

Dropping the small purse of money, though anyone who had grown used to cultivation would be able to tell that the purse had much more money in it than the small size let on. Lin Lanyu mumbled a slight apology before leaning over to grab the fallen coin pouch. Though the robes that Lin Lanyu wore were thick, they also revealed the curvature of his body and many of the disciples had stopped momentarily at the sudden eye candy that their young master was giving them. Though some of the more reasonable disciples began to drag their friends off, knowing that if Lin Shemu was here, he would have lost his mind and threatened to gouge out many of their eyes. Lin Lanyu's elder brother was usually a very kind and righteous person... but he was known to flip on a dime when it came to his brother.

Standing back straight Lin Lanyu apologized once more before rushing off not taking into account the other's face or identity. Though it was clear from his robes that he did not belong to the Lin Sect and had most likely been invited by Lin Shemu, it was also clear that he had never seen Lin Lanyu. Thus when this young master saw many of the other disciples saluting him he concluded that this would be one of the female core disciples. This was because, in the Lin Clan, the males were all known for being handsome without exception, and the women, had earth-shattering beauty. This was why when faced with Lin Lanyu's beauty many people assumed he was a woman.

As the disciple watched Lin Lanyu go his face slowly went red with embarrassment. How could he be such an oaf and not pay attention and accidentally smack into such a pretty disciple? He only hoped he could figure out who the disciple was from asking around. After all, if he could marry someone from the Lin Sect, it would make his sect's position within the south concrete.

Arriving back at his residence Lin Lanyu rushed inside to pack before his family changed their minds or one of his other family members found out. Picking up a deceptively small little pouch he opens it up and starts stuffing essentials in. This little bag may be small on the outside but the inside was horrifically large, though even then it rapidly filled from the amount of items Lin Lanyu planned to take with him. It was so large that Lin Lanyu asked if he could just hide his army of corpses in there. Nuna, of course, was sensible enough to say no because it was common that cultivators that were close to Lin Lanyu such as friends and family would just put things in his bag at random and it wouldn't be good if one stuck their hand in and got it ripped off.

Moving through the room like a tornado Lin Lanyu was somehow capable enough to make a disaster of his room without breaking anything. Moving toward the dressing table he starts dumping in things such as a jade comb, various pieces of jewelry, and a little bottle of lotion. Lin Lanyu although raised by nuns was far from clueless and being a pretty sixteen-year-old he decided it would be a good idea to take said lotion. Although if ever asked he will say that it is for the skin as he doesn't have the guts to say he wants to get laid. At this thought, Nuna's face had already blackened deeply.

After wreaking havoc in his room, Lin Lanyu moved out of the residence to a little study room to pick up his weapons. Now although it was customary to carry one's sword everywhere, Lin Lanyu was afraid he would forget it somewhere and thus left it with his bow in the study. Before he was allowed outside Nuna proded him to do something.

Nuna: 'Hey wouldn't it be a good idea to open your precious treasure cases?'

Lin Lanyu: 'The what?'

Nuna: 'The cases you got in your system.' Is this why I've waited so long because the idiot host didn't bother to read what he actually got?

Lin Lanyu: 'I got those? What are they for?'

Nuna: '...' Can I quit?

Coughing awkwardly Lin Lanyu turns to the system.

Lin Lanyu: 'Oh so like is it every other time I used the stuff?'

Nuna: 'Sure sure' As if!

Selecting the Random Treasure Case his body is transported in a flash of light. Opening his eyes against the blinding light he finds himself in an auction house except he is sitting on the stage and in front of him are hundreds of cases all closed. They are a carbon copy of each other none of which vary in size. Moving around the hall he touched each one and this time they all feel smooth.

Lin Lanyu: "Uggghhh! How am I supposed to pick one if all of them are the same!"

Nuna: 'Host should pick at random.' Knowing Host's luck he wouldn't have a problem getting at least one good one.

Lin Lanyu: "Eh? I just got an idea! I'll close my eyes and point. After I open my eyes all the ones I pointed at will be mine."

Nuna: 'Ok don't exceed ten though.'

Closing his eyes Lin Lanyu spins until he becomes dizzy. Stumbling a bit he stabilizes on a chair and points in a random direction. Unbeknownst to him the ruler of the auction house made a laser pointer on his finger and every time he extends his finger it flickers on pointing at a case. Repeating this a few times Lin Lanyu becomes so dizzy that he trips and falls when he's about to point. He ended up pointing at the ceiling dazedly. Screaming as an immense pain washes over him, he crumples up into a ball.

Lin Lanyu: 'Nuna why does it hurt so much!'

Nuna: 'Idiot you exceeded the limit.'

Lin Lanyu: 'I was only on my fourth one though.'

Opening his scrunched eyes he sees a brilliant lightshow of lasers pointing all over the room. Following all of the back to the source he finds a crystal hanging from the ceiling. Quickly withdrawing his hand 10 cases disappeared from the hundreds and he along with them. Reappearing in the study with ten cases neatly piled in the corner Lin Lanyu blinks dumbly and doesn't move until Nuna mentally prods him. In total silence, Lin Lanyu slowly crawls toward the pile. Sitting in front of the pile Lin Lanyu attempts to lift a box with one hand and ends up dropping it on his foot.

Cursing he opens it only to find a guandao(A/n Although this is what it is called in Chinese I will most likely refer to it as a glaive most of the time given that Lin Lanyu grew up in the UK).

Lin Lanyu: 'Nuna I am never going to use such a heavy weapon can I give the glaive to a corpse.'

Nuna: 'It's not a glaiv- Oh never mind. Anyway oh, my Host is actually thinking! Good job! Yes, you can give it to a corpse with a high enough realm to wield the uh weapon...'

Lin Lanyu: 'Great! I guess it isn't useless!'

Going through the other nine boxes he was left with several weapons surprisingly 3 were hidden weapons.

Lin Lanyu: 'Nuna I can't wield half these weapons? Do I have to wait to use these?'

Nuna: 'You should wait or just give them to high-grade corpses.'

Lin Lanyu: 'Fine. Treasures Section?'

Lin Lanyu: '...I have some questions. First off, how did this man practice the Guqin without a Guqin? Second, why is the saber broken? Third isn't a scythe supposed to be a farming tool? How is a fan hidden? Lastly, I thought anything above 6 is heaven-defying!

Nuna: 'Ummm he didn't have a spiritual one. Because it is. Yes. Plain sight. I wouldn't be a luxurious system if I let you get anything bad.'

Lin Lanyu got the itching feeling that Nuna was just tooting her own horn for something that she didn't do.

Lin Lanyu: "So you instead give me everything I can't use?'

Nuna: 'That's the idea it makes you need a wide variety of martial arts.'

Lin Lanyu: 'Sounds useless.'

Nuna: 'You don't appreciate all I do for you!' (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Standing up from the floor Lin Lanyu throws all the weapons inside his bag giving little care to everything but the fan and guqin. After placing the weapons inside the bag Lin Lanyu picks up his sword and walks out of the study. Unsheathing his sword he slowly places it on the ground and steps on it. Jolting the sword lifts off the ground and flips Lin Lanyu off but instead of flying off the sword, he finds that his feet are stuck. Lowering the sword back to the ground it finally releases him and makes him hit his head. Groaning while feeling a migraine coming on. The other reason for the migraine was Nuna's seemingly endless laughter. Sitting up slowly he re-sheathes his sword and starts walking toward the entrance to the sect.

After about forty-five minutes of walking Lin Lanyu comes upon the large gate that signifies the entrance of the Lin Sect. Walking towards it he is about to walk through it when he gets thrown backwards.

Lin Lanyu: 'Ahhh what a way to remind me that I need to use the token.'

Whilst Nuna laughed her coded ass off Lin Lanyu extracted a fine jade token carved into the shape of a Chinese-style dragon. Moving toward the gate cautiously Lin Lanyu taps the head of the dragon to the invisible barrier causing the dragon's eyes to glow. Strolling out of the gate he pockets the dragon moving down the path at a rather quick rate. At the same time, Elder Gao, who had been patiently waiting outside, and who thankfully had not seen Lin Lanyu get thrown by the barrier, turned to look at him.

Though Elder Gao expected some sort of greeting Lin Lanyu just kept walking as though he had not seen the man. Elder Gao immediately wanted to drag the kid back inside, but unbeknownst to him, Lin Lanyu was completely oblivious to his presence and had not registered the old man.

Moving down the mountain at an unbearably slow rate Lin Lanyu had noticed Elder Gao a while ago, and he had struck up a conversation which had easily died from the pure difference in interests and styles. Elder Gao, being a traditional man had talked about virtues in cultivation and had eventually drove Lin Lanyu to just block him out and talk with Nuna. Eventually, the pathway had begun winding down the mountain, leaving a multitude of blind areas where one couldn't see around the corner. That was when Lin Lanyu suddenly paused along with Elder Gao. They heard voices up ahead.

Unknown Man: "Why can't we just fly up the mountain on our swords?"

Unknown Woman: "Because Xiao Da, the Lin Sect's barrier throws anyone who approaches on their sword out of the sky, and besides it wouldn't look good for us to come flying in with no warning."

Unknown Man 2: "See I told you that you should learn the rules and customs."

'Xiao Da': "We are halfway across the continent it isn't like their rules will follow us back to our sect."

Unknown Woman: "Well you never know. Father might just decide that their rules are for the better and keep them."

'Xiao Da': "He better not I will not be following these stupid rules, why require people to hike up the mountain!"

Unknown Man 2: "Our Sect requires that too! You just don't listen!"

'Xiao Da': "I, unlike you, don't need to read the rules because I conduct myself perfectly fine!"

Unknown Man 2: "Yeah well that's because you have only been allowed to offend small fish, now we are in a big fish's pond so you better behave. Don't flirt either, last thing we need is for you to..."

Lin Lanyu: 'Oop. Hey Nuna do you know these people?'

Nuna: 'No idea... they sound like they are probably pretty influential...'

Lin Lanyu: 'Wow so helpful, I'm so glad I have the luxurious system.'
