Vincent finally showed up, out of breath. He frowned in disapproval of Creed's fighting. Vincent headed straight for Jade, who acknowledged him, jiggling in delight. Vincent spoke sternly, "Why was Creed doing the fighting?"
Jade retorted, using the calmest tone she could summon, "He is not the one I am meant to die for."
Vincent nodded his head in understanding.
Aura watched as Creed retracted his wings and reclaimed his armor. She finally spoke up, "I want you as my master. If you refuse, I will fight you."
"Why?" Creed sighed, buckling his armor into place.
Aura's eyes became glazed over as she appeared in the depth of his eyes. Tearfully she spoke, "You have everything I am looking for in a master."
Creed shrugged. "Okay," he managed to mutter, not really caring at this point. He knew he did not want to get into another fight.
Exhausted, he hoped that was all she had on her mind.
Aura beamed. "Yeah!" she blurted, swirling and twirling.
"Now, to make it official, I need a name that you choose."
Creed bent over, still panting, trying to catch his breath. He was not listening to Aura.
Vincent began to worry about his brother's health. He slowly approached Creed and gently placed his right hand on his shoulder.
Creed's small white undershirt was now mostly blood red. So were his arms. Relieved to know that he was safe in his brother's grasp, Creed closed his eyes and passed out.
Vincent caught Creed, holding him tightly. Then he smelled a familiar scent, one he had hoped to forget. "Why does he smell like blood? His clothes are all wrecked."
Jade began to tremble. "Master, it is my fault. The grand knight stabbed him, but Creed used full admission."
"I was understanding at first, but your orders were clear. Protect Creed at all cost." Vincent glared.
"Master, please forgive me," Jade spoke, fearful of her master's next move. "Please do not set me free."
Creed immediately began to stir, sensing his brother's anger and Jade's distress.
He opened his eyes. "I am all right." He tried to stand, as his brother held onto him.
Aura floated around them, still waiting in anticipation.
"Oh, yeah, I need to name you to keep you, right?"
Creed said, becoming more aware.
"Yes! Yes!" Aura nodded excitedly.
"Well, how about Spike?"
"It's short and cute. Okay, Master." She would have agreed to any name Creed uttered, but she thought he could have been kinder to her endearing appearance. After all, Aura was a majestic name and reflective of her beauty. Spike . . . her master has named her Spike . . . it will do.
"Do not call me Master. Honestly, I am not that old," Creed yelled disagreeably.
"But then what should I call you?" Spike looked confused. "Darling?"
"Creed."
"But that is your name."
"Yeah, so use it!"
"Really!" She jumped on Creed, who was still leaning hard on his brother for support, almost taking everyone down. "Master, I mean Creed, I will cherish this moment forever! I will love you forever!"
Vincent twitched, not really wanting Creed to have a monster yet, but sighed in defeat. He felt horrible that he had not been there to protect Creed. He was vexed about this monster issue, but Vincent knew there was no way around it, now that Creed had named her. Naming a monster is an unspoken bond between the newly-appointed master and the beast he names. Not only that, naming a monster bound them by word of mouth.
Creed sighed in frustration. He did not want her at all, but a bond is a bond. He cannot break it and neither can she. She was his pet now, his worry, his protector. He would never be mean to her; that would be uncalled for. But still wasn't this a little much, he fretted. He felt like yanking out his hair with frustration, but he sighed and took a deep breath instead.
Spike floated all around him, curious about her new master's distress and wanting to be of any assistance.
